It's fascinating to see how Japanese architectural technology is integrated with Philippine construction materials and local building methods. As a Filipino civil engineer based in Japan, I have experience working in construction in the Philippines for a few years. I know that it can be challenging to work with locals, especially when it comes to safety concerns and work refinement. However, from the video, I can see that the finishings are really well-refined, which indicates good supervision and implementation. It's also impressive how they used Yakisugi. One of the difficulties in using wood materials in the Philippines is that they are easily attacked by termite and molds. I am also curious about the bamboo filled with concrete and whether concrete was placed in all gaps. P.S.: I was crying while watching the end part of the video😅 This project is truly wonderful and has inspired me. I wish the program and the organization working on this project more power.🙏

Spaces like this will actually encourage students to go to school! Dorms like these are probably better than some of their living situations. And if these are closer to their schools, the students won't have to worry about going home in the dark, trekking highways/mountains, or crossing rivers. I hope more dormitories are established and inspired by this!
Knowing Japanese has devastated the Philippines during WW2. And now Japanese people are helping the Philippines by bringing their best building construction methods/ideas to the Philippines. That's why Filipinos doesn't hold any grudges to Japanese. Great relationships between this two countries. 🇵🇭❤🇯🇵
My late father survived the war. He remember some of the cruelty the Japanese army has done, but at the same time he also interacted, as a small boy with the occupying soldiers. He told me how a lot of the Japanese soldiers are skinny young boys that most have no idea what they’re doing here and wish that they were back home. Some would even play with the Pilipino kids, making origami… etc. It’s the Officers and Kempetai that are strict and cruel. My father doesn’t hold a grudge against the Japanese, he even admire their ingenuity and discipline.
The world really becoming small because of globalization n people must work hand in hand to live harmoniously n serenity!!! Discard greediness n selfishness surely it will go along way!!! Salute to the people behind this project!!! Mabuhay!!!

As a practicing designer and contractor in the Philippine, what I love about Japanese architecture is its excellence in minimalist aesthetics and clean lines, creating serene and harmonious spaces.
it's funny how even a Japanese architects adapted the common Filipino dress code when working in a constructions, a short pants and casual shirt, a good morning towel covers his head while just hanging on both ears and just wearing a slippers on his foot.. 🤣🤣🤣
It’s hot asf in the ph i grew up and work on planes in the usa and during the summer my crew would get special cold towels from our tool room and wear them over our heads and that’s summer in the USA I can only imagine the heat in the Philippines

That towel over the head method is also prevalent in Japan specially in onsen where they avoid heat stroke by using the towel .
