Good that Houston has a Mayor now that actually comes out and takes press briefings and addresses real issues. Last Administration was to focused on how much money they could get away with from the taxpayers.
As a former reporter in this city for nearly fifty years I have seen incident after incident of stonewalling involving HPD and other departments by mayor after mayor. It is refreshing to see this mayor’s transparency and open discourse with the news media and the citizenry the media represents.
I just notice a few board members have been quiet since Mayor Turner. I think they trying to figure out Whitmire angle. It’s not him though but it’s a lot of distorted information. Leaders take the hit the most unfortunately. It’s tough because you would think your core team would be strong but that’s not the case all the time.
If this chief retired abruptly, there is a good chance that any ongoing investigation would have uncovered something negative. It would be of NO surprise to me if there was a deal made that would block any of that type of information from going public in exchange for that abrupt retirement. These types of deals are made all the time. We, the People, have no idea how much corruption and other criminal activity is hidden from us. We don't know what we don't know.
And on my birthday when everyone knew I wasn't there, it was written that so and so overheard *part* of a conversation- and my word or side had no meaning in a state agency. Politics run everything even in this case; sounds like Whitmire is doing the sensible thing

Such a great mayor who is still covering for a liar and a police dept that not only failed in doing their job but didnt even try . Not to mention this ' great mayor ' who ran on reducing crime but its worse than ever . If this was still turner they would be calling for his head but we know what the difference is .
Turner had two full terms and crime went through the roof. You expect a mayor who has been in just a few months to clean that up in an instant? Don’t be foolish.

Acevedo was the worst kind of tyrant. He hated the Constitution, particularly the 1st Amendment. If you think he was a good guy, you clearly aren't paying any attention to the world around you.
Hell no! Especially with HpD being top heavy and street officers taking all the heat for everything. Nobody wants that job and now they don’t want to be firefighters either.
Put Alcevedo back in charge now that the atmosphere is different now that Turner is gone and the focus is on getting the department back on track and above board; absolute transparency and accountability!

Acevedo is corrupt as all the rest of them. He covered up the Harding street raid which should be grounds for removal all on its own.
