      I don't get what you're saying. Could you rephrase that?
      This band was absolutely the real deal, and not as commercial as the many mainstream acts that radio and MTV actually supported in the 80s.

    Augusts brother Stony Browder was the musical genius who started the whole thing with Dr. Buzzard. I loved that band so much. Sadly, they were so underrated and yet so amazingly creative and original.

    Of course ONLY in the BIG CITIES with forward thinking masses. OF COURSE sophisticated European cosmopolitan city dwellers with audiences hungry for the Big Band , heavily Latin inspired music by AMERICAN music geniuses such as the creators of Dr. Buzzard and The Savannah band that morphed into Kid Creole and The Coconuts, Coati Mundi etc. would find an underground audience so vast and huge that August Darnell and Sugar Coated Andy Hernandez flew under the radar with massive wings that they passed right over the deep, deep hole ....cultural hole that spans between Los Angeles, Miami and New York. We understood the music when it was so miserly aired on the disco radio stations 40 plus years ago. We got it. We understood it. We Latinos and African Americans created new dances from it because this music is not just for listening to. Thank you August and Andy for being so much a part of my youth. Your music like music in general is a driving force on Black and Latino culture and history.!

    "Coconuts is a term we used in high school to speak of Caucasians with blonde hair." "There Before the Grace of God", co-written by August Darnell, was a song about an Hispanic couple who wanted to move to the ‘burbs to get their baby daughter away from “the blacks, the jews and the gays”. I love it when "minorities" (particularly Democrats from of all places "Brooklyn") show that THEY - more than any white Republican on the right - could be as racist and race-obsessed as the people they accuse of being "racist". THANK YOU, KID CREOLE. You're a real "class' act.

    • @KKouzez
      @KKouzez 11 місяців тому

      Actually “There But For The Grace of God Go I” is the correct title.
      In the song, bigotry is denounced without reference to a party affiliation. The lyrics may be based on an anecdotal event but the main message is anti-bigotry in general. Doesn’t matter whether it comes from so-called minorities or the Caucasian majority or Republicans or Democrats or what have you.
      WADR, I do not believe that the writers meant for the song to be weaponized in the fashion you expressed or for it to be used as a tool for one to engage in gloating.
      Having said all that, I wish you and yours peace and love.

      @@KKouzez Yeah,It does matter Kid Creole didn’t have the song writers the bands I mentioned did. It is the music industry. Industry meaning $$$$$$. If your putting out the money for a band of 7-9 players to tour they need radio play,album sales Etc.

    • @KKouzez
      @KKouzez 11 місяців тому

      @fuzzybutkus8970
      WADR If you don’t care for them then you don’t care for them. You are entitled to your opinion. Nothing wrong with that. The groups you mentioned are nice choices.
      Of course, radio play, album sales, etc. will help facilitate success for an artist. You’re not saying anything profound just stating the obvious. You don’t have to be a genius to know that.
      However, if you are going to compare bands then it can get quite silly and you might as well jump in a rabbit hole. Just like sports who is better Lebron or Kobe (RIP) or Earl Monroe? As far as songs, well different folks may find a fruit sweet and others will find the same fruit sour.
      If you wanna compare then those bands you mentioned didn’t have the writers the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Prince or the Temptations had. So what!!! They found a niche and they did well for themselves. What even determines what writer is better than another? If it is strictly money then “Happy Birthday” made more money than any songs by those acts you mentioned or even more than any Beatles song.
      Even less popular genres like Jazz and Latin music don’t have the success of pop groups; still, they have a following and their music is just as viable and meaningful to many folks. I rather listen to ‘Round Midnight” by Monk than Feelings by Morris Albert even though the latter sold a ton more records.
      Kid Creole and the Coconuts were not trying to hang with anyone. They were doing their unique thing and did it quite well. Maybe not so much in the USA but this is a big world. They did fantastic overseas where they played sold-out shows including stadiums and arenas. Even in the USA they still sold out Carnegie Hall. Not an easy thing to do so you have to give them some credit based on that alone.
      Just watch this clip from 10 days of sold-out shows in the Hammersmith which was a record at the time. Watch a shot of the audience.
      ua-cam.com/video/l_ETIcrlbJ4/v-deo.html
      Enough said.

Obviously we come from 2 different places but we did carry on a conversation and didn’t call names or insult each other’s mothers so you know what. I think we could be friends. You have great taste in music. I never said I didn’t like K.C. I was just commenting on why he never made it big in the states. Horn bands as we call them have never been real big here. Like I said so expensive to put on the road. If you had choice as a promoter. Would you back a 3 piece band like Rush,Grand Funk( from my little home town Flint Mi.) or a 9 piece band like Slipknot?? What? That's completely backwards. That song sounds like your average upbeat funky R&B song of the early 80s. It's actually their worst song of all the ones I've heard. They have entire albums that are smokin' with hot jams. "Male Curiosity" is genius. There's nothing genius about "I'm A Wonderful Thing." Still a decent song, though, of course...
