    I had gastric bypass on June 5th 2017. The preop diet is the absolute hardest part. I have lost 63 pounds in the past 6 weeks and I feel phenomenal. Congratulations, Boogie. Your life is about to change entirely. My sleep apnea has almost vanished and I no longer shut myself in my house all the time. I want to be outside and hang out with people. I want to be out doing things. I went from a 3X preop to an XLT as of yesterday. It is incredible man. Good luck to you.

    Exactly 13 months after my Sleeve Gastrectomy and it was the single best decision of my life. At 30 I've completely turned my life around, lost over 175 pounds, exercising everyday (and loving it!), eating healthy and feeling younger, healthier and happier than ever
    Been following you for years and was ecstatic to hear your having the surgery brother, you're a great human being and deserve nothing less than living a happy and healthy life.
    Good luck!

    Boogie this is a tip from my mom who had the same surgery. Do not drink anything before or during the time you eat because it will fill you up faster. Also when you are taking your vitamins in the morning take your time, they will hurt going down if you take them too fast. Good luck boogie, I've been rooting for you for years; you are taking the hard road but it will pay off. Remember it isn't a race, pace yourself and be safe!

    Hey Boogie, I have just watched this video for the third time, and I have cried each time. I turn 37 next wednesday, I am 450 lbs and my health has been faltering over the last year. Like you, I have never been disgusted with my body, but it is the little health problems that have really put a hamper on my life. I have rheumatoid arthritis, sleep apnea, and lymphedema, all which make exercise quite painful. In fact it was the picture of your feet and the realization that those are my feet that started the tears. I have recently been reintroduced to an old friend from high school and we have started dating. I do not know if she is the one yet, but if she is I do not want to cut my time short with her. So for the next week, I will marathon Obesetobeast's backlog and July 26th will be the first day of the rest of my life.

    Deciding to do surgery because you know yourself and your limitations isn't a side of weakness or cowardly, its strength man. You know yourself, you know what will happen and your strong enough to take a different course that will help you succeed.
    I'm currently about 3 months out till my gastric sleeve (stupid insurance rules) so I'm right there with you brother!!

    Boogie, I dont usually make comments because youtube is kinda toxic. You said something in this video that struck me and i wanted to comment. You stated, i paraphrase, "getting this surgery is sad and a sign of weakness"
    While i understand the idea of the statement, i strongly disagree. It is a huge step, and not an easy one. You are a brave man who is taking a huge step to preserve your own wellbeing. It would be all too easy to continue an unhealthy lifestyle. I admire you sir. Carry on!

    • @Crazy_Diamond_75
      @Crazy_Diamond_75 7 років тому

      Absolutely. Not everyone can meet their goals with diet and exercise, and to imply that undergoing surgery to turn your life around isn't a huge step... Well anyone saying that can stfu.

  • @PatsTreasuresNCrafts
    @PatsTreasuresNCrafts 7 років тому +10

    You're an amazing person Boogie! You're doing this for all the right reasons. You are NOT weak! It takes a brave soul to do this surgery. I thought about it a few times and even went for a consultation. I opted not to mainly because I don't think I can have the self control to adhere to a strict diet for the rest of my life. I wish I could get to a place where someday I can. I'm content with cheering you on as you go through this journey. Most people that think you're taking the easy way out are people that have never been overweight or obese so they don't understand the mental, emotional and physical struggle that goes on within ourselves.

    I cant stand the fact people are still giving boogie a hard time for something that can not only change boogie's life and possibly save it but make him happy and prolong his life. Boogie has explained time and time again why its not just as easy to just diet and exercise he's not weak he's incredibly strong for having been going through what he's went through and by the grace of GOD he's made it. He's awesome and as fans and viewers we should support him till the end no matter what. And at the end of the day it's his life not ours he's decided to share it with us so guys let's be supportive of boogie ok.

      Any one who has to down someone for the situation they are in and the lifestyle they are trying to change is actually the weak one.. @Dark Auron if your calling boogie weak, while he is pushing through all this hard shit I would consider you the weak and jealous one for not having such a drive to continue to fight for a goal you have no matter what it takes or how hard it is. he has been doing this for years and has not given up yet. if he had he wouldn't even worry about surgery. Take care and If I'm wrong that's awesome, but if you are calling him weak, maybe recheck where you're at what you want and JUST how badly your fighting for it.. *homeless youtuber out*

    I think this is the first video of yours I've ever watched. I'd heard of you of course but I'd just never gotten around to watching any of your videos. I clicked on this one because the subject jumped right out at me. I found myself crying because I know exactly everything you're feeling. I'm morbidly obese myself and deal with sleep apnea, diabetes, anxiety/depression, I'd even gotten to the point of agoraphobia once. My heart goes out to you sweetie, and I know that fear of mortality and the desire for a better quality of life so very well. I pray that this surgery helps you achieve the health and happiness you want. You're not weak. What you're doing now takes strength, especially in sharing it with so many people, opening yourself up to judgement from others. You seem like a very warm and genuine person, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

    I currently suffer from illness that sometimes keeps me housebound, and I experience some excruciating pain as well as morbid discomfort and my quality of life has taken an absolute plummet. I'm back and forth at the hospital, getting so many tests and all, yet nothing has come of it. If I had the opportunity to know what my problem is, and be offered a solution, I'd jump at it, because suffering at 18 before you get to experience your full potential just isn't fair. There's no shame or issue with surgery, if you need or want it and it will have the right effect, then go for it. Nobody here from your followers will judge you harshly, they want to see you happy and healthy and to live life to the full. I know how much I want to be healthy again and to overcome my obstacles, but seeing someone have an opportunity to fix their problem riddles me with envy but also happiness. You've got this, my man. Take the reins again and start taking control of where your life goes, you can't afford to not do it. I know it's too late to back out of surgery, but you'll come out of it as a new man with a new lease of life and you'll go from strength to strength. Make the most of it, cause god knows I wish I have the opportunity to do something about my health like you do.

    My mother went with the lap band operation. It seemed to work at first but her addiction to food (namely carbs) prevailed. I've tried to get her to stop snacking constantly but at best she just hides it better. This morning she fell and for the first time couldn't get up. My heart is broken. There's so much self-hatred at the core of eating disorders. We love you boogie, remind yourself of that daily, hourly even.

    Dear Boogie,
    I don't think that you are weak for not being able to kick the sugary snacks. Sugar triggers a positive response in the brain, which is why most processed foods contain so much of it (not just in the US, the regulations in your country are just looser). Sure, it's possible to kick it, but after a life-long overuse of sugar, the brain is fighting against you, and it's good that you are working actively to live longer!
    Good luck on the surgery!
    - Johan

    I don't know why I'm typing this here. Maybe it's because you've always been a fixture in my day-to-day life, Boogie, and I feel like saying this to you and the rest of the world might take down my _own_ swelling. I don't know.
    My girlfriend of 4 years just broke up with me. She landed an internship with a company out in Seattle and flew me and her immediate family out there for a small 5 day vacation to be with her. At first I thought everything was going great, but I could tell something was up by the end of that first day. She was just acting... off. Less eye contact. More distance in walking space. Less physical contact than usual. Trusting my instincts, and knowing that she was horrible at lying and covering her emotions, I pressed the issue and asked her what was wrong. She finally told me that she wanted to break up. She said she wanted to do it before the trip but didn't have the heart.
    After a long conversation and a sleepless night, I booked the first flight I could back to the east coast the next morning.
    It's been a grand total of 2 days since this all happened and I'm just.. numb.. I can't eat. I can't sleep. The nihilist in me just wants to end it all and be done with this life, but the curious, hopeful side of me thinks that someday I'll find a new normal. This is the second long-term relationship I've been in that has failed. The first was the longest at 7 years. That one moved to Alaska for teaching and met someone more to her liking while she was out there.
    I guess what I want to say is that your content is a source of therapy for me. Always has been. You're trying to mend a broken body while I'm trying to mend a broken heart. I guess it's comforting, in a morbid way, to know that I'm not the only one going through some hardship right now. My issues are more ephemeral, I suppose, but I'm in extreme pain nonetheless.
    I hope you pull through, Boogie. For the both of us.

      Simonbelmont09, I honestly and sincerely wish the best for you and hope you remain strong during this difficult time. I understand how you feel numb. I didn't feel much when my father died a little over a year ago and only chocked up a bit once I was done cleaning up his autobody/automechanic shop. I remember the last night I seen him alive but was distant due to opiates withdrawal medication withdrawal. We stayed the night at the hospital before his open heart surgery that didn't go so well and thus he was kept in a medically induced coma. Which he never awake from. Due to financial issues we had to sign his body over to the state and they cremated and spread his ashes into the ocean. There was no funeral and it was a bulk type thing that doesn't involve the family. Over a decade before that I lost the only way that ever gave me a chance to a intoxicated driver. So I understand you feel a hopelessness and lost with loosing someone you love. But I fully, as sappy as it may sound, believe you'll find light at the end of the tunnel and put this break up behind you eventually and find the strength to improve your situation.

      @Lestat Thanks for the kind words and your story, mate. It's good to see other people on the other side of their strife.
      @Miss Co Thank you, as well, for the insight! Yeah, now that I think about it, I can see the connection. This _does_ feel tangible, at any rate. I'm definitely over the numbness now. I think I cried for 2 days straight, didn't even get out of bed but to perform mandatory bodily functions. I'm in the 'depression' phase, now. But I have a fitness game plan that I think will be good for me. I've got a lot of great support around me and it's always nice to see totally random people on the internet giving their love for others in need.

    • @gstylez0107
      @gstylez0107 7 років тому +2

      Yes, Miss Co hit the nail on the head. Scientifically, what you are going through has the same affect on the brain as a drug addiction. Heartbreak and loss of loved ones is one of the hardest things a person can go through in life. It can bring a grown man to his knees, but over time you will get back up and live life again. It may take a while but I promise it will get better. Just as I needed that promise when I was so broken, I'm promising you right now; it will get better.

    • @spongebobonmolly
      @spongebobonmolly 7 років тому

      The pain will fade in time :( I've been through a breakup last year that at the time I thought I would never get over, but I hardly think of them anymore. Don't force yourself to move on, but don't dwell on it either; let it go away naturally on its own time. The pain will come and go constantly but eventually it will come back less often until it stops hurting. I know it's the loneliest feeling in the world but I can promise you will heal one day.

    • @spongebobonmolly
      @spongebobonmolly 7 років тому

      @gstylez0107 Agreed. This time last year I would not have believed anyone when they told me it will get better but it did. It took a very long time but it did get better. It always does, no matter how difficult it is to believe at the time.

    If you are not a medical professional, please do not pretend to be one. We don't need "UA-cam doctors" spouting a bunch of bullshit because they spent 4 minutes on WebMD. I've been a medic for 4 and a half years, with more than enough practical experience. I see absolutely nothing wrong with Boogie undergoing this surgery. Those of you saying he can do it just by exercising need to realize that he HAS been exercising and dieting. If you've never been obese, you can be excused for not realizing how hard it can be to run or do aerobics at 300+ lbs. Conditions such as plantar fasciitis start affecting you BEFORE you're morbidly obese, so I can only imagine how hard Boogie has it.

    Dude, regarding the "weakness" part of this.. I think you're describing pretty much entire mankind who always take the comfortable short sighted path rather than the long one, it basically describes how we are treating this planet at the time! We can save it if we change society and work for it, but it's much more comfortable to just keep on the way it is today. So no, you're not weak, you're just human!! I really hope this works out and I get to see your 70th birthday video!!

      Andrea Russell not being rude so please don't take it so. But if it's a struggle everyday why not put in the work and drop it through change of lifestyle? • @twoseytibba
      @twoseytibba 7 років тому

      daniel j if it's a struggle after surgery imagine the struggle if u didn't have the surgery in the first place. No matter which route you go down it's work. Surgery is no quick fix but it gives u a head start where u don't have a choice about good nutrition. But that eases and years later u can eat most things so it's back to being a choice.

    • @danielj9865
      @danielj9865 7 років тому

      Andrea Russell yes but you can make yourself sick easy and it's no guarantee that there will be no complications with the surgery. And if you do it without the surgery there's that risk you don't have to worry about. I know a few people who chose the surgery and it seems like the ones that could do it without are happier.

    Your videos are so inspirational, genuine, and also heartbreaking. I don't know how you do all of this and keep so composed even if it's mostly for the camera. You are NOT weak for going with the surgery. Quick loss diets work for a couple-few weeks until your body adjusts to the lower fuel and you just have no energy to do anything and hit that plateau. This is, given the circumstances, a healthier and more sustainable route. I look forward to hearing how the surgery goes and seeing your future gameplay of that VR MMO.

So why do we need to spam god with prayers for anything? It's not like "50 prayers or this kitten dies". is it? There's literally no point in praying. No matter what reasons you have, they are your reasons, and that's all that matters. I myself have lost 150 lbs naturally, started at 495 lbs. I almost had the surgery myself. You have my support and best wishes my friend.

    I think that going through the surgery is not weak, but one of the bravest decisions that you could have made. Like you've mentioned before, deciding to go through gastric bypass isn't easy, there are tons of things that you have to do and change about your lifestyle after getting the surgery, things that have no doubt turned many people away from considering it. But instead of giving into the fear, you actually want to make a change and are doing something about it, unlike those countless of other extremely overweight people.

      Mason Boutilier why is it that God needs prayers unless boogie gets 20 prayers he will die?

    • @CabbagePuzzles
      @CabbagePuzzles 7 років тому +3

      Prayer does nothing even if there is a god, unless that god isn't all knowing, all powerful, or everywhere, then it might help, but again there has been no reliable evidence of it happening. I care for Boogie as much as the next guy but Prayer ain't gonna help, donating to his patreon however, would.

      Mason Boutilier I'm not necessarily a big fan of prayer, but I do think that knowing people are committing time to thinking about you and wishing the best is encouraging and empowering to a degree

      NocturnalJay / Prayer is just conversing with God. Having a conversation with him. You can ask him stuff just like you ask a human. No...there isn't a number that has to be attained in order for God to do something.

    I've watched you reach this decision over a long and well reasoned process and I'm convinced that you've chosen what's right for you and, as you say, it's time to live not time to die. I'm 45 and you're my main UA-camr. I'm not ADHD enough for the young 'uns but, whilst I'm a centrist Australian, I really identify with you and need your advice, opinion and presence so it's all love and positivity from me m'man. My brother is 50 and bigger than you and is considering options as his health is nosediving. I feel useless and counterproductive as I'm a fit sort and didn't know how to help him until I put him onto you. He has made massive changes and I'm hoping he keeps seeing the gains and how his life is improving. From mood to sleep and relaxation to work performance. I owe a lot to you though. You never made it feel like I was pushing anything but an honest and open dialogue from you. I look forward to many more.

    Boogie stay strong brother don't let the haters bring you down. You and I are in the same boat right now I'm currently on my six month diet required by my insurance to receive bariatric surgery. Most people don't understand what we larger guys go threw on a day to day basis. My whole family is trying to talk me out of the surgery due to all the side effects involved. but I also need the mind reset like you stated. The thyroid issues, sleep apnea and everything else my body has decided to give up on is starting to take a toll on my health. I'm glade to see you excited to basically start over and face it so bravely as you are, it give me strength in a wired way lol. Stay strong bud we both can fight this head on and change the world around us and live a long healthy life that we were meant to have

    I can relate so much to what you say; I identify myself in what you say about the little things too and how you wish you could do this, that and the other. Good luck with the surgery and kudos for having the courage to go through with it. For what it's worth, I think it is you being brave and decisive, and this is definitely overcoming oneself (especially when you are your number one enemy).
    GOOD LUCK, Boogie!

    Awesome video Boogie, you do not need to justify why you want this surgery at all.
    Some people just want you to feel as miserable as they are. Do what is right for you and your wife!
    All that matters is that you can live longer and be happier! There is so much cool stuff to look forward to, and I hope you'll have the chance to see it.

    Boogie, you do you my friend. You don't owe us or anybody an explanation. As long as you have the reasons, the means, and the will do to this, then this is what's right for you.
    You will be missed for the time you're gone, but can't wait til you come back. If people can't handle this then screw them. It's your life. People spend too much time judging others and not focusing on their own damn lives.
    Good luck Boogie.

    I believe in you man you can get through this!. I lost 40 pounds from 300 to 260lbs and it's such an amazing feeling. Don't go based off the scale just take pictures because pictures never lie. Never get discouraged if you don't see the results. Once you look back you will realise, wow how did I get this far.
