Hello, I'm thinking of buying an Austin with an auto gearbox, but all the professionals are discouraging me from doing so. Too many problems with the auto gearbox, and the parts would also be hard to find and much more expensive. Is it a money pit and what routine maintenance do you do on the auto box so that I don't end up with a broken box on the side of the road. Thanks for any information you can give me.

I have never had any issues with the automatics that we have imported. I will say that changing the oil every 1,000 miles is very important because the engine and the automatic transmission both share the oil. Keeping the engine oil clean and changed will help the transmission shift properly and help to extend the longevity of the automatic transmission.

Hello and many thanks for your feedback
Changing the oil every 1000 miles is huge!
Does this also apply to the latest MPI models from 1997 to 2000?
For a 1997 to 2000 version, mechanical this time, you need to change the oil less often I suppose, 2000 miles or more?
Because I do 800 miles a week roughly and was hoping to make the Austin my everyday car!
I'd like to thank you for any explanations, useful tips and information you could give me on the Austin automatic or mechanical from 1997 to 2000, as it's a car I'd really like to pamper.
      Sincerely

@@victoretcheberri918I’d love to know, did you get one and did you do 800 miles a week in it?
