Anna Clyne: DANCE, I. when you’re broken open

- Happy Monday! Here is the first movement of Anna Clyne’s cello concerto.
Written exactly a hundred years after Elgar’s, these two works can be heard side-by-side on my most recent album. I hope you will agree that they are equally beautiful.
I was driving, this came on the radio. Sent chills to my heart & soul. Pulled the car over to capture the artist. Now listening walking my dog. Heavenly, emotion and moving, almost cried xxxx
Thank you very much
Same, heard this on CBC Radio and had to look up the composer afterwards. She captured the essence of Rumi’s poetry perfectly.
same. cheers.
I had the opportunity to hear this amazing cellist last Friday live in SãoPaulo, Brazil. I took some flowers from my garden and offered to her as a thanking gesture for the unforgettable experience. 😊
I had the chance to attend at the same concert. This song is so beautiful, so hipnotic, deep and poetic that I realized I was sitting on the edge of my seat without blinking. Few songs caused me such fascination as this one. The sound of her cello is also unique, and I have had the chance to hear great cellos and cellists.
Been lost and empty the last couple of weeks and when this piece came on the radio it perfectly described how I’ve been feeling. Beautiful
Exactly! I'm reminded of the words of JS Bach "Music has only two purposes, the restoration of the soul, or the exaltation of God- if it doesn't do either of these, then it is useless!
Stopped me in my tracks the other day when it was aired on the radio and had to listen again. Wow
I was on a train and listening to the classical mixtape on BBC Radio three. This piece began to play and it immediately made me think of my little cat Rusty who died at the end of last year. He was, in many ways, my best friend - we went through a lot together. I think part of the reason the music brings up this memory is the timbre of the orchestration and the cello. It is a little cat-like, and a bit reminiscent of the soundtrack to the film "The electrical life of Louis Wain". Such a beautiful piece, Anna Clyne - thank you ❤
How strange, I lost my beloved cat just recently and this piece came on. Hard work, grief.
I've not heard something so Heavenly like this in a long, long time. Thank you so much!😢
I'm not crying, I'm not crying is just something on my eye i promise!!🤧
Thank you for the inspiration, time to go do my scales 🎵🎶
Couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate cellist for the premiere of this piece. So exciting when we get new repertoire.
Thank you😊
I saw this live in Denver last night. Beautiful! So glad I found it online.
It must have been quite the treat 1:53
Had the same effect on me listening as I was driving. Probably the most beautiful music I have heard for many years.
this is the most beautiful music i have ever heard
True spirit the soul that Christ created Born into Music for the ears of Mankind
Played with such feeling
The Human Spirit can never be Broken may God Bless you all the musicians who
Delivered this Heavenly music
So glad this appeared in a Spotify playlist I listen to. Added it straight away to a personal one I use when reading or uni work.
😊
Same here
I close my eyes, and I'm suddenly teleported to another world.
My wife and I saw you last night, February 2, 2022, in Long Beach. We were totally mesmerized and affected deeply by your performance. We were in the front row.
This is beautiful at a time when we are all broken open.
So graceful and like rising high above our troubled world for a moment. You and your cello are made for each other
Thank you so much 🙏
I didn't knew this concert, but as far as I've been following Lady Inbal Segev stunning renditions, I have hear it and I found this is So Beautiful Music.
Just discovered this today. It's incredible. At first I thought it was a composer from back then I'd never heard of. A forgotten contemporary of Elgar, Holst or RVW... I think it's wonderful that she sticks to the late-romantic early 20th century style.
It's so cool to see a cellist with such a strong and graceful character. Also, I love seeing performers who interact with their audience! Thank you Inbal! ❤️
This has been my favorite go-to performance over this challenging year . . . for when my soul needed to be nourished. Ms. Segev is one with this piece.
This piece moves me on so many different levels. My emotions are running wild.
I love the emotional play and enjoy listening over and over again. Thank you for bringing it to life! Never enjoyed a piece of music more ❤️
Thanks you very much Arienna27
Heard you perform this live with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra last night and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced. Thank you.
Thank you very much, this makes me so happy.
Awesome piece of music!! It speaks to my deepest hurts. Wow, its powerful!! Anna has written a masterpiece and Inbal knocked it out of the park!! Thank you Inbal and thank you Anna!!
It does just that, doesn't it? It opens that sad thing up again and fills it with beauty.
Exactly!!
Such an astoundingly lovely piece of music. Thank you, to both Anna and Inbal!
I love this piece of part, let me feel going to far far away to the sky ,to the universe and settle to a silent place.....on higher spirit.
I had the pleasure of hearing Anna Clyne's Night Ferry at the Spokane Symphony Orchestra several years ago. Ever since then, I was hooked on her music. When I looked at upcoming concerts in Spokane, I saw they were performing this with you as the guest cellist. After hearing this, I am reinforced in my admiration for Anna Clyne, and heartbroken I won't be in town to hear you play this piece. This and the other movements are... utterly lovely, and heartbreaking, and amazing all together. I'm glad I can at least hear this recording!
This whole album is wonderful.
Thank you Joshua😊
Stunning. Emotional. Sad. Beauty.
Fantástico! Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 And greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 😊
Marvelous, beautiful, moving piece of music. And marvelous, beautiful, moving cellist. Thanks for this moment.
Thank you Phil The fox(-: I just had to write your UA-cam name 😃
@@Inbalsegevcello my full name is Philippe Renard (renard = fox in French...)
So beautiful…🏴😁
Ms. Segev, I had the incredible treat to hear you perform this piece with the Spokane Symphony this past weekend. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to hear such a remarkable work of art. I'm kicking myself for not studying this before hand. There was so much going on - Russian themes, Jewish themes and I heard snippets of Gershwin / Copeland in there as well. As I was sitting low I couldn't see the bowed vibraphone and was trying to figure out what was going on with what I now see is the interplay between your cello and the vibraphone. There may have been a couple coughs, but otherwise I've not heard the audience so quiet and intent as during your performance. They were focused! Many thanks!
I was at that concert too and legitimately cried tears of pure wonder and joy. Beyond magical.
@@BlaiseSavageMusic Wasn't that quite the experience! When James Lowe introduced the concerto he said it was the best piece of orchestral music written in the last 50 years. That spun my head around, thinking that's quite the claim. But I think it is that easily. He also said that he had it on repeat on his sound system for weeks. Same here. I wrote the original post two years ago and still listen to Ms Clyne and Segev on regular basis. You may have probably already done so, but check on Anna Clyne's "Within Her Arms" on UA-cam with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Another absolutely brilliant composition using a 4-note motif and silence to weave 16 minutes of breathtaking variation. Would love to see the Spokane Symphony bring that one to town. See you at the Fox and thanks for comment.
If i watched this live, i would have melted and evaporated away
So very expressive, so beautiful, very emotionally impactful... you speak volumes through your play. You are an inspiration, Inbal. Thank you.
It's so beautiful. I'm just crying! Congratulations! 👏👏👏
Inbal, I am truly inspired by this piece and of your teachings here on YT! I continue to pick up my "Bella Madeleine" in part because of the gift you share into this Broken World.
Cuanta belleza! Muchas gracias!!

Tem músicas que parecem derrubar todas as nossas barreiras. Ouvir esse som foi como se por alguns segundos eu não tivesse vergonha ou medo de sentir... Escrevi esse comentário chorando. Mas um choro bom. Obrigada por essa obra. Ela me atingiu no meu próprio infinito particular.
Thank you for sharing that, it made me happy.

Where to buy full movie of whole movements? This is the work of God.
Thank you so much! the entire performance video is now on UA-cam and you can buy the album on Amazon for the best sound quality 🙏
@@Inbalsegevcello thank you for your reply. I'm so glad to see whole movies for free!
I've bought your album from amazon.
So let me ask one thing. In the 1st movement, there are several high frequency harmonics in both UA-cam and CD album. For example around 2:14. Is this a part of music? Or the limitation of digital sound?
I love it 🤩
Magnífico!!!
Amazing! Like a dream
YES.
Beautiful piece!!!!!
So glad you think so
@@Inbalsegevcello Thank you!!
💛💛💛
I was moved to tears somehow...
The cello is singing while the other instruments play❤.
Inbal, bravissimo! you play the violin admirably well :-) (really nice movement, I look forward to listening to others)
It might sound like a violin sometimes😆thank y out so much for your feedback
the tones ... wow
Maestro Segev, I hear this piece on the radio and was so impressed that I wanted to have it in my collection.
I went to the iTunes Store and selected the whole of *Dance* for $6. I paid with my fingerprint, and the transaction seemed to have been completed, but the piece does not appear in my library. I would assume that I was not the only person who heard the piece and wanted to own it, so it it’s not selling, perhaps you should complain to Apple.
Keith Otis Edwards thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will look into it and meanwhile, I assume you should receive some sort of a receipt in your inbox. If you didn’t, the transaction maybe did not register? I also noticed that iTunes gets track names confused on a few occasions. In any case, I am sorry and hope it will be resolved. Inbal
Toca muito , quero um dia conhecê-la pessoalmente, e ouvi-la tocar 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Heard this played on BBC3 today. Just beautiful and Inbal's intensity was a joy to witness. Does anyone know exactly where this was performed? I like that little hall. The acoustics are marvelous.
Hi, this video was made during the recording, not a live a performance. I performed the concerto at the Cabrillo Festival and at Chautauqua and more performances are scheduled for 2021 in Bamberg. Thanks for watching
So beatiful, thanks Inbal
Omgg this is so niceeeeeee♥♥ Congratulationssss! ♥
Fantastic Inbal, Air Studios..?? Is there an album available..?? Will you be performing it in the UK..??
Hi Drew, sorry for the belated response. Yes, it is Air Studios and I very much hope to come to the UK to play this...working on it, fingers crossed.
