The exact incompetence is amazing. Dagless has MD after his name, but Sanchez doesn't Liz doesn't even get "Dr" And Thornton Reed is in quotation marks when none of the other are.
Its actually a bit of a homage to John Woo’s Hard Boiled where you see Chow Yun Fat do a similar run in front of an exploding ambulance clutching a baby
I think they said it would have been a mistake to do it by the time Channel 4 was open to it. Did you see Man to Man with Dean Learner? It's a spinoff of this.
Sometimes, when I'm alone doing some chore, I'll catch myself thinking 'You are about to enter the world of my imagination. You are entering my DARKPLACE.'
Sorry but I cringe when I see Genius used to describe comedy. It reminds me of what Ricky Gervais said about it. They could have been the next Newton but instead they're keeping up the ratings on 5! It's a great comedy, funny, not genuis 😅
The original C4 ident - the Wolf Hall raised eyebrow acting - the fact that Lizs lines are all badly dubbed on - Thornton Reed just existing - its the greatest crap titles of all time
Every actor can pretend to smash a glass. But nothing sells this out-of-control badass performance of a temper tantrum like smashing a throwaway plastic cup. The stakes are so high. This is not an act, but the truth.
There's actually a "backstory" of why the ambulance explosion scene never showed up in the show itself: Dean states on the commentary track that they blew the entire budget for that episode on blowing up the ambulance and had to abandon it. He goes further and says viewers were angry as they were "tuning in every week to see the ambulance blow up and it never came" 😂😂
The front flip with the baby just absolutely kills me everytime lma
Same
Same here! Every single damn time.
I only watch the intro for the flip 😂
Same, lol
The first time I watched this show I legit rewound it 10 times for the flip
Saw this genius live.
He called me a shitbag,
I will never feel as happy as I did then.
And they say you should never meet your heroes
I would give anything to be personally called a shitbag by that dreamweaver
based on melodies whistled by Garth meringhi
If you haven't seen this masterpiece you deserve a knuckle supper
How dare you. How very dare you!
You're acting like an ape, a wild ape!
The flip with the baby is just ✨amazing✨
I'm currently reading Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome, I'm only on page 8 and I've already shat my pants twice.
How amazing is it? I've just started it... When the flat began to come apart and "brained" the resident in the room below I knew I was onto a winner.
So how is he compared to Wes Kraven?
I did that while reading the contents page
@@cunningsmile4166 he make him look like Dr. Seuss
Hehe 😂
greatest title sequence ever.
The OG Alan Wake
I forgot about his show for many years. When trying to figure out what it was, all I could tell people was "hospital fever dream". I hit the bullseye.
Same.
The moment he flips holding a baby as an explosion erupts and music flares was the moment I knew I'd found something special.
The exact incompetence is amazing.

Shes not a Doctor, just a woman 😂
@@TheWaynos73 "Liz. Cover your shame"
@@TheWaynos73 Nope, she's a girl, in a year's time she'll be a woman.
@@TheWaynos73 But she went to Harvard College Yale and got an A!
The repeated chanting of _Darkplace Darkplace Darkplace_ stumbles after the fourth chant but they just press on.
The flip with the baby avoiding the exploding ambulance... it's my favourite
Its actually a bit of a homage to John Woo’s Hard Boiled where you see Chow Yun Fat do a similar run in front of an exploding ambulance clutching a baby

It took me a while to realise that the ominous chanting is just saying "Dark Place Dark Place Dark Place" over and over again
🤦♂️twas not obvious?
It's a DAMN shame this show - or the show within the show - didn't get more than one season!
I think they said it would have been a mistake to do it by the time Channel 4 was open to it. Did you see Man to Man with Dean Learner? It's a spinoff of this.
Sometimes one great season is better than having a second or third with decreasing quality.
I honestly can't stop watching this intro. I love it so much. It's perfect.
Sometimes, when I'm alone doing some chore, I'll catch myself thinking 'You are about to enter the world of my imagination. You are entering my DARKPLACE.'
It even stammers the fourth time!
Dark-place, dark-place, dark-place, dar-plae, dark-place...
Amazing series. I was 18 when it was first shown.
I knew it was genius back then. Now it seems beyond genius 20 years later.
Sorry but I cringe when I see Genius used to describe comedy. It reminds me of what Ricky Gervais said about it. They could have been the next Newton but instead they're keeping up the ratings on 5!

@@SkandiaAUSSorry, but someone doesn't know what genius means.
@@SkandiaAUS Of course the word 'genius' would offend a jealous little idiot, like you.
Such an underaited show!

The perfect intro
I love how they even included a shitty edit of the music there at the end. A perfect parody.
This was GENUINE TV.
Philistines had NO taste
The music is the most underrated part of the show.
I consider it a running joke that the soundtrack is actually supremely competent.
I like the part when they said "dark place dark (place) (dark) place dark place and Reed crushes his cup.

Oh yeah.... just tingles your brain

The exploding ambulance giving me MacGyver vibes, and Matt Holness' flip is everything.
pretty intense
It's magical ain't it
I adore the choppy bits at the end of that piano solo, the piano going very unelegantly off-beat. Even the music is made intentionally amateurish.
0:41 and the way they're just standing there at 0:57 a hahaaa😂 lol. This show was such a belter
I feel sorry for people who've never seen this masterpiece
The bit with the baby and exploring ambulance is the only part of the intro that doesn't feature in any of the episodes.
I don't know what it is.... but I like this show

It’s funny how the credentials drop off with each character. First Dr. MD, then Dr., then just Liz Asher.
Is the baby clip actually in any episode or was it just filmed for the intro ?
Just for the intro, and i think that is even more funny
@@mrfreakmaster2256 oh absolutely that makes it gold
They said in a DVD commentary that it was for an episode that they threw out/didn't finish
