Replacing the leaking tail lights on my motorhome.

- Ever since we bought our motor coach, the tail lights were leaking. I discovered this problem last fall and replaced the gaskets and everything else I could think of doing, but to no avail - the tail lights still leaked.
So the only real solution is to replace the original tail lights with better ones.
You can view the project's companion webpage at: htttp://www.rv-project.com/repairs/newlights.php
Bargman are amazing manufacturers. I own a 1989 Chevy G30 Cutaway Vanguard. The original tail lights are the Reflect O Lite 1400 series. The ones you've installed here are the replacements. Well done .
Great problem-solving. But important lesson is to always wire up and then check, before fixing.
I finally got mine replaced. I've been waiting a month for a few days of dry weather. i used my Dremel vibratory cutter and a chisel to expand the slot. At least on my rv, i only needed to cut some off the top of the cavity and everything lined up perfectly. The top center hole even lined up and the lights almost perfectly covered all the area that the previous lights did. I also siliconed the crap out of the bezzel. I wish that it would not have had such a relief cavity on the back and instead had a nice flat surface to seal against. that said, i dont think these things will ever leak again. Thanks for the great tutorial. only took an afternoon of work.
Nicely done! I have a 90' Winnebago Warrior class A and the tail lights were very dim and old, the screws rusted and could not be taken out to replace the bulb, they were old "reflect-o-lite" and its impossible to find replacements. I bought the same Bargman lights and I had to enlarge the cutout on the plastic mounts with a rotary tool to make them fit but they are way better and brighter. Also made my MH look a little more modern. Nice video.
I need those exact tail light lenses. Can't find who makes them.
I liked the tip on using the countersink in reverse, also the whole saw in another video you did. You're a man after my own heart, I even have the same Incra router fence, one of my favorite things. This kind of water intrusion is exactly what I'm worried about, you were lucky you caught it. Is there a way I can contact you with a sort of longish question?
Love the information here but when I added all the tools and supplies I would need this is very expensive for someone who doesn't know anything about tools. I wonder if anyone knows anyone in the Tampa, Florida area who can do this?
A woodworking shop might cut the openings.
how did you do the other side where the ladder blocks a lot of the access... did you pull the ladder?
You can if you want, but I was able to work around it. I used a small laminate trimmer router that I was able to get in between the rungs of the ladder.
Great video 👍🏼 Any updates on these?Still water tight? I’m about to replace mine on my ‘11 Thor Freedom Elite.
I no longer have the RV.
Did you find an alumimum strip around the hole were the ligh mounts?
+Tom Scardino Sr. Not aluminum... plywood.
No it is alum around the edge with self tapping screws holding in the stock lights.
+Tom Scardino Sr. The tail light itself is made of plastic. The rear wall of the coach is a tubular aluminum assembly, with a fiberglass sheet on the outside, styrofoam insulation in the middle, and luan plywood on the inside.
There is a "surround" of plywood underneath the fiberglass sheet which is what the screws go into. The only aluminum is a channel coming up from the bottom that provides a wiring raceway.
This video might make it easier to see ua-cam.com/video/AzzVLenmUrs/v-deo.html
I have a 2016 Forest river fr3 the hole is framed in aluminum frame the wires come up from behind the frame. Yours has a box channel were the wires come from much better idea than this winner.
Looks great...................
It's sad it seems like it's all about quantity not quality any more. :-( I have a Cherokee 28A+ also a Forest River but a travel trailer. I also have to keep doing things to. But I LOVE it none the less :-)
I realize this is an old video. Has anyone noticed these lights don't come left and right? To get the backup light to the same position one of the lights gets installed upside down. Which puts the bevel inside the light fixture in the wrong position for draining and the wires would come out the top. The proper fix would be to swap the backup bulb over with one of the turn/stop bulb.
You can re-arrange the bezels in the frame.
@@RVProject not that simple as the bulbs are different. 1157 and 1156. The bulb holders have to be moved also. Done it...
Late to this party but have these lights on a 2020 model Thor four winds. They have yet to address this. My dealer said that Thor told them that the gasket will breath in water which will eventually evaporate!! Are you kidding me?!
You can get LED exact replacement bezels for the Command Electronics lights. At least that way, you can seal the lights with silicone as you should not have to remove the bezels to change a light bulb.

@@RVProject Interesting. Appreciate that. I’m thinking you shouldn’t put silicone over that gasket that sticks out a bit? Isn’t that the same style? If that’s the case I’ll just silicone over the gaskets/lights I have now and call it a day. When a bulb goes out shouldn’t be that hard to remove I would think.
@@joeyabel5966 I was able to buy gasket kits directly from Command Electronics. Whether or not they are still available is anyone's guess.
But I am thinking they are using the wrong gasket material to begin with.
@@RVProject some kind of weak thin Styrofoam gasket on those. Removable lens is the way to go. I bought a cheap router and it all worked out good.
That's ridiculous. This fix is the way to go. Took an afternoon.
Does anyone know about fixing the turn signals on a Fleetwood Bounder motorcoach?
Most RVs are built more-or-less the same, with more-or-less 3rd party parts. I bet there is a lot of commonality with your RV and this project.
I am trying to ask a question and every time I do it goes all the way around everything it doesn't even answer my question. I need to know if anyone knows how to put tail lights on a 1976 Dodge Tioga to Sportsman and how to wire it
Trailer tail lights typically have a color code that consists of the following:
White = ground
Green = Right Turn/Brake
Brown = Taillight (clearance lights)
Yellow = Left Turn/Brake
If you have a 4 wire system, the wires typically match color-by-color. But if you have a 7 pin tail light system, the colors will vary depending on the standard used. Same thing for vehicles and vans.
You would have to use a voltmeter, have someone go through all of the functions (brakes, headlights, turn signals) and see which wire becomes energized with each function.
Unfortunately, there is no universal wiring diagram for this stuff.
Howd u seal the flange ? I just bought those light in LED style no gasket for the flange.
You can use silicone.
