I disagree that DFS is a direct competitor to Rui, position-wise. DFS is a F, leaning more towards to SF. While, Rui is a F, leaning more towards PF. If you can trade Rui for a more complete player, that can give you the same offense, while being a better defender, than fine. But, what player is out there that's available? I don't think there's anyone out there like that. Also, I'm not in favor of using a first round pick, to acquire a role player. That's not a smart use of assets. What would help Rui...and the Lakers as a whole...is to have DFS take over the starting SF spot, and move Rui to the backup PF spot, behind LeBron. The starting lineup would get a bump in defense/intangibles with DFS, while maintaining outside shooting. Rui off the bench would bump the production of the bench unit, and have Rui be more featured offensively, which is his strength.
I agree with J.J. Redick going against popular opinion and leaving DFS on the 2nd Unit because Hachimura is more than a simple CORNER SHOOTER. Time to get Hachimura moving without the ball as in using cross-screens for low post feeds.

Rui has to play harder on defense. It’s fine if he’s still at best an avg defender. But most importantly he needs to box up harder and rebound better. It’s not about getting the stats when it comes to rebound. Boxing out is as important.

You want him to be picking up fouls playing tuff, but some of them are boneheaded and they get him out of the game before he has any impact. I am hoping this is just rust and he will settle down a little bit.. Lakers are in desperate need of length at the center position and he's not stepping up so far.

Stop scapegoating Rui. The elephant in the room is AR and he has to be traded or moved to the bench if you want a championship caliber team. He is constantly being exposed to quicker and bigger guards. His handles are suspect. The rest of the league knows. Consequences will get worse in the playoffs. His higher volume of shots vs. pass first mentality will be better served with a different unit than the starters. Try Shake at the starting point and I guarantee you everyone else’s play and numbers will go up including Rui’s. Plus we’ll better lockdown the opposing team’s first unit.

I would say...trade him now ! For Stewart or Claxton. Stewart one of the most physical big out there and Claxton is very athletic and durable.

Stop scapegoating Rui. The elephant in the room is AR and he has to be traded or moved to the bench if you want a championship caliber team. He is constantly being exposed to quicker and bigger guards. His handles are suspect. The rest of the league knows. Consequences will get worse in the playoffs. His higher volume of shots vs. pass first mentality will be better served with a different unit than the starters. Try Shake at the starting point and I guarantee you everyone else’s play and numbers will go up including Rui’s. Plus we’ll better lockdown the opposing team’s first unit.
