OMG you are sooooo right! Deep Purple is FOUNDATIONAL. Usually known for stunning, staggering keyboards, they rule rock. If you don't know them, GO LOOK! You'll never regret it!
Excellent music - this was back when musicians could play musical instruments. Deep Purple pushed the envelope on musical boundaries and they gave music a great service.
I went to sleep with music playing on my Pandora one night and i woke up to this song randomly playing and till this day, i never could get this song out of my head. That was like 5 years ago. I could've woken up to any random song playing and I'm still 'grateful' that somehow I woke up to this song. This is my favorite song ever.
I'm 53 years old, been listening to Deep Purple tunes since a boy. If you like'em good for you. If you don't, listen to what you prefer, your choice. Me, I get it this one in my mind from time to time while I'm at work. Makes my day!
I'm just a young lad of 49 compared to you old geezers. I actually forgot about this song for a few years... Brings me back to when I was 16, or something like that.
The way he carries that note when he says "suddenly she feels so young" is just masterful. Also love the entire Nancy story. I had to look up what half the things he was singing about. Man, l loved this song in my teens but I really didn't appreciate the complexity of it like I can today. These guys were next level on this song. I saw Perfect Strangers Tour at the Philadelphia Spectrum back in the 1985
I've been here 72 years and I'll tell you: the only thing that's true in this world is that the best Deep Purple are the best after The Beatles. Tallinn, Estonia.
1983-84 were the years that some of the best rock acts (current and classic) cashed in their chips and released some of their best work: Newer (at that time) bands like Def Leppard (Pyromania), Scorpions (Love at first sting - actually an older band that finally hit the big time), Judas Priest, Motley Crue, as well as older ones coming out of hibernation after the Great Disco Scare of '76 - '79 (perhaps the worst music famine of our time) like Ozzy (bark at the moon), Yes (90210) and (especially) Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers LP. This track is among their very best, showcasing each bandmembers' respective kick-ass rock prowess. Brilliant lyrics as well.
this song is timeless !! it's funny how ive heard this song since the 80's and i have always had the lyrics wrong . hehe . thanks for making lyrics to it .....
Agreed. An earlier album; "Burn", is my 2nd Favorite! And let's not forget the most memorable opening 3 notes of all Heavy Metal Rock 'n Roll topical songs (IMHO) "Smoke on the Water! In 1975, my Harmon-Karden turntable/stereo system was blasting Deep Purple and the songs caught the ears of my fine looking & (as I was soon to learn and never forget) "wildly explorative" older woman neighbor, who arrived at my apartment door with a wine-sack filled with "J.D. Old #7 mixed with a "shot" of Peppermint Schnapps and a and a bong packed with "Acapulco Gold" which set the stage for a serious 3 year romance and life-long friendship to this day. Oh to be a teen-ager again. Ahhh the the mysteries of "Young Love Solved" in the early 70's! Kudos Deep Purple. ISLU Diana!
Ian Gillan, started all high register Vocals. Deep Purple came out, then bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden followed after. Gillan can still hit those notes to, he is awesome.
Saw this tour in early 85 great show i always had Machine Head being there best album over the years I'm thinking this is the best just because i was 17 and bought the album that summer and loved it fuckin classic still listening 40 yrs later
The worn out grooves on my many deep purple albums bear witness to the many hours of learning to play drums stealing Ian Paice's licks. Remember having to get up and set the tone arm back a thousand times. Kids today have it so easy :)
I was walking to my car late at night after finishing a college class, and this songs intro started playing in my shuffle list and it scared the crap out of me lol.
+Theresa Humphrey Can I buy you a cup of coffee or a wedding ring or ... Oh shit! My wife is home! Kidding. Like that you love it. See you in the movies ;-)
There is lot of double entendre there if you get my drift I think this goes over most people's head but there is a lot to unpack here cheers to you if you truly understand
Almost posted to my Facebook page to remind my kids etc about great music until I saw the lyrics.. hahaha!!! Still love the song..Deep Purple was one of the best!
+Philip Nelson , this album was surprisingly edgy for Deep Purple. A better song for them to learn would be "Highway Star." I'm surprised that no racing video games have it in their soundtracks. I would have loved to have heard it on Midnight Club III: DUB Edition Remix, Need for Speed: Most Wanted Black Edition (2005), Need for Speed: Carbon: Collector's Edition (2006), Need for Speed: Underground, or any of the other Need for Speed, Forza, Gran Turismo, or other great racing video games. That song is an awesome song to race to, in all honesty.
Pax Humana, true! Reminds me of "back in the day" when I had a '68 GTO..I, along with my buddies and their hot rods would race and I almost always had highway star playing!
Well I Just Have Heard It. Cuz Joey Tempest Said Something Bout DP In An Interview As I Just Wanted To Hear One Of There Songs So I Looked Up DP And This One Poped Up... So....
"It's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase"
WISE words to all, the older I get, the more it's true.
As a teenager I literally rolled pennies to go see Deep Purple! They sure don't make rock bands like they used to!
OMG you are sooooo right! Deep Purple is FOUNDATIONAL. Usually known for stunning, staggering keyboards, they rule rock. If you don't know them, GO LOOK! You'll never regret it!
A year ago , you're the wwJoker.
No kidding
Ritchie Blackmore owns this song!!! His lead guitar is his signature on this song! One of the best lead guitar solos I've ever heard!!!
"the log was in my pocket when Lucy met the rocket" you can't deny the lyrics😂
This great old tune deserves way more air time on the rock radio stations
Excellent music - this was back when musicians could play musical instruments. Deep Purple pushed the envelope on musical boundaries and they gave music a great service.

I don't know what a Pandora is, but lucky you 😂
I'm 53 years old, been listening to Deep Purple tunes since a boy. If you like'em good for you. If you don't, listen to what you prefer, your choice. Me, I get it this one in my mind from time to time while I'm at work. Makes my day!
Tim Dreier Me too-53
I'm 52..same sentiment
I'm just a young lad of 49 compared to you old geezers. I actually forgot about this song for a few years... Brings me back to when I was 16, or something like that.
53 as well, oh well......................................
Tim Dreier you think about buttf@÷$/&g a pole dancer while working? must be a government job. hope Nancy & Chucks hissy fit isn't hurting you any.
The way he carries that note when he says "suddenly she feels so young" is just masterful. Also love the entire Nancy story. I had to look up what half the things he was singing about. Some of Gillan's most indecent lyrics and one of Blackmores best solos - what's not to love?
I was in the army when this came out...this entire album got me through 3 years
thank u for ur service!! 🖤
Ill bet the NAVY guys especially liked this track😏It's been added to the 'required learning' list for all Rear Admirals.
One of the greatest lines of all time......ITS NOT THE KILL, ITS THE THRILL OF THE CHASE!
I played this cassette so many times I had to replace it 4 times. Drove OTR TRUCK when this album came out. Great road music!!!
one of the best intros of all time..
THEEEE GREATEST DEEP PURPLE SONG EVER BECAUSE LUCY WAS A DANCER
Blackmore's guitar....nuff said!
More like a signature Blackmore riff
He is very masterful to himself.
One of the greatest guitar riffs / song by far !!!
Was listening to Deep Purple since 1972, the older i get, the more i like them
Ritchie killing it as always. Awesome riff...timeless.
I was glad to see Steve Morse with Deep Purple about 15 years ago, he did fine with their hits, but Ritchie's work stands alone.
One word to describe this song? Legendary.
Deep Purple outdone themselves on this one! This is rock n roll! Blackmore shreds that solo!
Had my '68 Barracuda I bought for $275 when this came out....many NYC nights were fueled by this album and that car... Good times.
When did you buy it?
perfect song, one of my favorites!
Lucy and/or Nancy?
Me too
This song's about anal and you said it's perfection.
Marry me.
Saw them in 1984 - they played this album and a bunch of older stuff . Was awesome - never forget smoke on the water .
It's not the kill
It's the trill of the chase.
My life my existence
Deep purple so deep in my heart
this song is timeless !! it's funny how ive heard this song since the 80's and i have always had the lyrics wrong . hehe . thanks for making lyrics to it .....

One of my best concerts I seen as a teen!
Ian Gillan, started all high register Vocals. Deep Purple came out, then bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden followed after. Gillan can still hit those notes to, he is awesome.

When blackmore is on his game,he is untouchable....when he's not into all that eccentric bs and just lays it down, perfect touch....
Thanks so much for the lyrics. I don't think I knew half of them before this.
Simplemente fantástico! Música de calidad con esas bandas chingonas que hacían verdaderamente cantar sus instrumentos 😘😘😘😘
I never before noticed how it sounds like Dave Roth singing....the tune has a Van Halenish feel at times.
I was walking to my car late at night after finishing a college class, and this songs intro started playing in my shuffle list and it scared the crap out of me lol.

After Made in Japan, is this the second best album from Deep Purple
