    One of the best pratice to getting laundary clean is to not over fill your washing machine when loading the dirty cloths , so cloths have room to move around and so the ratio of cloths and water is good and for my whites I always , alwsys rinse twice .

    Learned from a off-grid woman that a brand new toilet plunger makes a great agitator when washing clothes by hand!

    There are washing machines, that are able to do this job easily: heating up sheets and handtowels up to 95 degrees Celsius (you can choose 30, 40, 60 or 95 degrees), prewashing, using more water if needed later in the washing process etc. Ours has also washing programs for wool, fine fabrics and sports clothes. But I am not sure if they are available outside of Europe.
    Also the amount of washing powder depends on the hardiness of your water. So please check, if you are using to much/ not enough. A good brand should have the needed information on the package.

    My aunt taught me to use cheap dish soap for sweat stains, just a small zip on the stain and run and launder. Got them out every time! My girlfriend, when she was a teenager had to scrub her white socks on a small scrub board after soaking them and they always sparkled! A bit tedious but hey if ya want them looking brand new all the time worth it! I buy coloured socks 😉😂

      I soak all of my white socks in the utility wash basin with oxy clean. Usually for about a day or however long it takes for me to remember that they’re there. Stirring them every few hours. Then toss them in the wash and they are nice and bright white.

    • @MinimalistHome
      @MinimalistHome  Рік тому +1

      I would suggest running it through the washer and then trying again. Sometimes the washing machine needs to be cleaned as well. Some people run a bit of bleach through OR vinegar (not at the same time obviously). You'd have to do your own research to figure which option is best, but sometimes the washing machine is the problem

    I think what the dirty color is is just dye being released from the clothing.

    • @MinimalistHome
      @MinimalistHome  3 роки тому +1

      Could be! But there is also a brown hue to some of it. Good news is that as I strip it, less and less comes out :)

    • @damesaphira9790
      @damesaphira9790 3 роки тому +1

      I think it is the dye too, plus build up of detergent. The Borax gets the hard water/detergent build up and the Baking soda gets the dye. Tide just makes things smell good. Try just using borax in a load of washing in the washing machine and drain your water into a pail so you can see it. With no detergent, the water looks awful just like in the bath tubs I have seen. Also the water is soapy with no detergent because it is getting the built up detergent pulled out.

    • @MinimalistHome
      @MinimalistHome  2 роки тому

      Hmmm, well depending on the colour, bleach is always an option. I also would try laundry stripping. Unfortunately, some things will remain stained and will eventually just get passed down to other jobs until they pass away!

    So when I do laundry it is all washed in cold water to conserve/save money. When you move from the stripping sink and put in washer is it a cold or hot wash at this stage? Its gonna be a first for me...

    • @MinimalistHome

      It probably should be hot, but I did warm (which is still quite hot in my washer). I would advise against cold when stripping

    Sorry, but this is just "en vouge" right now... My tipp is: Stop using too much washing powder, fabric softener and dryer sheets and nothing will build up! And for hard water you can use vinegar in the washing machine... but this probably reaches more klicks, right? ;-)

      I imagine you could just do the same process, but squeeze out all of the excess. If you take it to a laundry mat, it will be heavy from the water still retained, but still doable. Just switching to Tide alone has helped my laundry out tonnes, so perhaps that could help. Good luck!
