Hello from the Canadian prairies! The grass here isn't even thinking about getting green yet. I love that there's a stone church just in the corner of the field.
Great video young man! When I saw the title I thought no way! Saying that, up here in sunny (today anyway) Lancashire I watched a field being cleared of silage taken last week. It will be similar to the stuff you have baled and not much of it.
It seems to be a rule that the first few bales come out without net wrap haha. It happens to us every year too. We have just mown a field for bales here in South Wales, too.
The v660 main problem is it doesn’t like short grass we ran one for 3 years and then this year swapped in for a krone Comprima combi wrap going to be sitting on a 4220 limited edition
Do you guys handle your bales more than just to from field to storage and then to feed them? Just curious cause it seemed like you use a good bit of plastic is why I ask. I'm not criticizing , I'm not very familiar with wrapping but I do know the plastic is costly. And also why black over white? Any reason or just what's available? Thank you for your time and your great videos from a farmer in Pennslvania ,USA.
The roads are barely wide enough for a car let alone farm equipment, great driving and dealing with the the drivers that can't understand that you have a right to use the road too. How long did you mow before baling and wrapping? How long before the grass will be able to be used as silage? Thank you for bringing us along on your day.
What was happening with the net wrap George ? I had a 660 on demo 2 summers ago that would explode the bale when i opened the door at pto speed drop the revs and it was fine . there was a sharp edge on the ramp that would cut the net wrap .
Enjoyed the video. The triple tire John Deere 9620Rs common in my area would not fit well on your roads. Great job navigating the cars. I have seen McHale machines at the National Farm Machinery Show. This is the first time I have seen them on a farm.
Thank you for showing the making of silage bales. I've just sent a mod for Farming Simulator 19 on using real-life numbers (FS19_RealLifeNumbers_UK) to testing on FS-UK, but I was very uncertain about the parameters for silage bales. I would be very greatful if someone very familiar with farming in the UK can give me ballpark numbers as to the bale dimension, weight, water content and a typical sell price in the UK. Also I would like to know how many silage bales you get per acre per cutting (average numbers are fine). Are two cuttings per year standard in UK? Thank you. Kaj-Aage Henneberg/ArmChairFarming.
Is that a set of JCB overalls (or at least a jacket) you're boasting there George?? 🤔 I said it would pay off wearing that set of Claas overalls in your videos aboard the JCB!!! Result. 👍😂
Do you grow maze,? if so what is put in with it to make it grow like it does, even in dry contions it seem to grow like crazy , how is it done ,..it never grows like that in the garden..
You need the shrink wrap to perform two jobs. 1, The main and most important job is to seal the bale from exposure to air which will spoil the silage and 2, To protect it from wet weather. The net wrap or in some cases string is there to hold the shape of the bale in it's rolled or square format. The waste plastic is a problem on several fronts. 1, Black plastic of any type is limited on recycling because it cannot be coloured. 2, shrink wrap is not as dense and not easy to recycle as other plastic products like bottles for example. 3. Plastic used to wrap bales or silage clamps is not clean, it is contaminated with other plastic (net wrap or string), silage or hay and quite often other contaminants like silage effluent, oil, animal muck and or water. Because it has a very low (little or zero value) financial value it is not worth a farmers time to separate and clean it. However, they are supposed to dispose of it carefully. So, could it be incinerated for energy? Yes, however, contamination is a big issue because it affects calorific values, emissions and as biomass boilers are designed to burn a fuel at optimum performance any contamination can impact on performance and life time of the outfit. Unfortunately there is no easy answer because natural products have little resistance to the Sun, rain and frost coupled with silage effluent, birds (they do attack bales even wrapped with plastic) and other wildlife looking for food or nesting. I hope that brief description helps to answer your concerns.
Always nice to see you back at the grass George 😎👍
Excellent video, from across the pond. Our John Deere silage special always has net wrap problems the first time out of the shed.

Great video George, that silage looks good. It is still extremely dry here we have not had our usual Autumn break.
Are you kidding me?!?! Already?!?! I live in Canada and we got snow yesterday.
George roughly how many hours do you think the Fastrac will go to before replacing? And do you think it’ll be for a new Fastrac or Fendt etc
Another great video George keep up the work
Very nice George! Here it is cold with -2 !!
I could tell it was windy, but no problems hearing you. Good job.
Great to see George the grass has gone mental here so far should be a cracking 1st cut.

I'd love to have a go in something like that but not on these roads!
George Saunders the 9620Rs would not like those opposing parked cars and trees. Keep up the good work.
Great vid George you must the first in the country to do silage lol
No wonder they were wary about coming near if you were flashing then but weren't you hot in a mac?

What a waste of time, there's more grass on my lawn.
George I thought the class was the eldest tractor

Would not put a small traction in front of rake, 70hp would drive them
big tractor can do a small job as well as big job ,,,,,

What happens to all that plastic after it has been used? Not great for the environment.
Can be recycled
Hi
Say hi back and sub to my other channel farminglad66 but don’t uploads much
McHale baler made few miles from my house why don't ye run a fusion
Lawn clippings
All that plastic, where does it all end up going too. Pity there is no environmentally better solution. Anyone got any ideas ??. Nice video 👍
