Persuasion and stealth are useful in many quests they are harder to level so might want to invest early. 1 point in boost pack will make you feel like you are playing a different game. Early on, you want to focus in one way to kill your enemy, as you can't use melee and laser at the same time.

I think the first row of combat you should focus on ballistic or Energy weapons first. They cover a wider variety of options than the specific weapon types.
Pilotting is an essential early game. If you want to fly class c ships you need 5 ship kills followed by 15 then 30. You want to get the perk online early so your kills go towards that goal

@kdub1960 security and persuasion imo are the most important to level up early for all player types/builds. so many times I've passed locks that were above my skill level.. to think all the amazing loot I've missed. also lockpicking will allow you to complete objectives/missions in different ways. for persuasion, you'll also miss opportunities for alternative game paths + bonuses if not unlocked early on (also miss opportunities to build the skill). targeting control systems and boost pack are also nice to put at least 1 skill point in to at least unlock the skill (tcs makes ship fighting way better and allows you to board ships; boost pack makes moving around on feet WAY easier). your decision if you decide to level them up further. of course many other skills can decide to funnel points into depending on how you want to play the game, but I see these as essentials for all
If you're using shotguns, take shotgun AND ballistics skill. These stack together and shotguns complete both challenges too. Shotguns are so good with both skills, I 1-2 shot almost all enemies and just jetpack around blasting enemies in the face. Very fun
This is a great video, and the presentation is outstanding. I really enjoyed how you prioritized the skills in each category, and you explained thoroughly why each skill was a good choice. Finally, I really appreciate how you did not choose skills simply to meta-game / min-max your character, and these skills will make the game more worthwhile without overpowering you. I'm honestly surprised piloting isn't a must-have or even on the list. Him: talking about about striving to get a better ship. Pilot: jokes on you. If you don't upgrade me, you won't be able to use it.
A quick note on the Leadership skill. If ppl wanna do a good playthrough then go for it even if your only after that lvl 1 affinity boost. However if u wanna play as a bad guy/pirate and also wanna have a companion around then dont even bother. Every single companion is the good type and they will constantly hate on u if u do even the slightest bad action.
Honestly it’s just so much easier not even bothering with geology just buy ore etc from the mineral store it can get expensive but the end of faction quests give you plenty of credits farming for all the different types is so time consuming so just buy it trust me lol

Great format and presentation. I will say that I'd include Ship Command definitely and Outpost Engineering maybe. The benefits of crew (like extra reactor bars from one with Aneutronic Fusion) should not be ignored and much like Commerce, more is more! Even if you aren't a ship build it provides a way to add an easy and significant bump to your ship's performance.
Even just one point in pistols helped a ton. Something with the math that extra 10% led to less shots needed and significant easier combat from the get go

I fucking love the Science and Tech trees. I haven’t invested a single point in anything else. My ship is awesome and my crafting abilities are amazing.
A first playthrough is interesting because you don't know what the skill challenges will be. Some skills are really easy to grind, and some take a lot of time. It's basically impossible to grind speech, whereas stealth, weapon skills, and piloting are just a matter of killing stuff (mission boards are good for the piloting grind). I rushed security early because it feels bad to encounter a lock I can't pick, but not so bad that I'll take notes and come back later. I think I missed three master locks before I unlocked rank 3. I'm roughly doing what I call a Tony Stark build, focusing on making good equipment before getting good at using it. I'm level 38 and haven't felt the lack of combat skills very often.

Disagree with weight lifting as a must have. Do a thing, pick up the loot and then sell it. 135 is enough to carry the best stuff away. You need credits mostly for ship building. There are generally pretty good drops that eliminate most of the need to spend on weapons and suits. IMHO you have to pick a way to survive and get decent at it. I decided to go the charming stealth shooter route. Stealth and Persuasion are bottom level so you can start putting points directly into them. They are obviously optional but they have helped me quite a lot. For combat I am putting points into ballistics, pistol, rifle, and now sniper. You can go a different route like melee or whatever, butt commit to it.
Started playing last night the game is one giant bug fest. Constant crashing, no sound, lagging. I asked for a refund today. These videos are dishonest, I'm not the only one I have a high-income computer

Played 10 hours today, everything amazing but I don't like the space ship fighting. Your not really flying the craft. It's more you point it towards the enemy and mash buttons.
Weight lifting sucks. You can still go super fast encumbered and you're only ever really running it back to your ship, which can have up to 50x your inventory space for storing stuff to go sell it. Not really like skyrim where youre at a snails pace and it would actually take forever to get a shop

Their is one cave on the first moon you land on you can sell stuff to a man just outside as long as you don’t click any of the other options you can keep him as a vendor
I know this is old, but for anybody that's new that needs to know, there is a botany skill and another 1 for fauna. Each rank lowers the amount needed to scan by 1, so you go from 8 with 0 skill points invested to 4 with them maxed out. Plus each rank gives more resources when looting. You also need rank 1 to build greenhouses and basically cages for animals at outposts.

I'm actually having trouble finding safes and doors to lockpick that are below Expert level. Hard to level up lockpicking when I can't find anything to pick. Any hints on where I can find some low level locks to pick?

I'm not rushing through the main story, but having a general range of skill points I can expect at end game would be nice to know when speccing out a potential character. I currently have no clue. Is there a hard level lock?
No level cap. Another tuber touched on limitless missions. If you are familiar with fallout 4, i am sure the same leveling system applies to this one as well.
The level cap is around 360 to get all the skills. It took me 10 hours to get to level 7! In Skyrim I could do that in an hour! This is the best game I have ever played except for morrowind. This is way more fun than RDR2

I think I started the pirate infiltration quest too early, I kept getting beaten in the fight trying to help one of crimson fleet’s boss, it’s like 3 enemy ships against 1 and I just keep losing
Dude I JUST did this and I had to turn my difficulty down from Hard to easy just for this fight… I didn’t have an option other than reverting back to a wayyyy earlier save and just going off and doing other things. Did it feel wrong, yes… but I’ll pause on these and go do other things till I’m higher level
@abdu8745 luckily I don't think there are any achievements for completing the game on the hardest difficulty. So difficulty is just for personal preference really
LOL same situation here. I killed the first group of 3 pirates but the second group? I ran to New Atlantis for a repair and I think they followed me? Idk, because when I go back to Altair and to fight them, they aren’t there. Idk if I’ll ever be able to finish that quest 💀💀💀
If Bethesda taught me 1 thing it's: always make a first save to test what you can do to make as least mistakes as possible (the hunter is blowing up my ship from the insides from the test save)
I feel like security is mostly pointless to start with since it takes a few locations before you can start accumulating digi-picks anyway. I personally liked starting with pilot + ballistic to take advantage of the combat you're going to get thrown into immediately anyway, and then adding security, stealth, persuasion, surveying, etc as I went along.
Get all of the skills? I do WANT all of them but, pistols and medicine very much reduced the stress I was having with combat. The targeting engines should be must get with 4th or 5th point spent. I’ve started multiple characters and while nice a lot of the skills are less useful early - melee, leadership, outpost/shipbuild. I think a case could be made for pushing pilot to unlock A ships? Haven’t gotten that far but I feel like it’s slow going to get there and I might regret points spent elsewhere
You can skip a lot of these if you don't mind using a glitch. Commerce for instance, just loot the Ship Technician a couple of times and money isn't an issue then.
It’s insane how much there is to do and learn about in this game. I’m convinced most of the haters are on PlayStation because I haven’t had a day yet where I didn’t want to get on Xbox and play starfield. If I didn’t work I’d be on all day 😂

Why doesn't my hud say the mission im on? I pause the game and come back running at a marker i dont remember what that marker is for. 7/10. Needs Polish to be 9/10
There are so many missions you can pick up, it’s easy to accidentally hit the ‘make mission active’ button when trying to move fast. The trick is making sure your ‘active mission’ is what you think it is. This will help: When you’re paused select missions from the bottom of the menu circle and pick the mission you want to be active. The waypoint/s will be for the active mission you have selected.
@@KarateBubba you missed my point, every game has on the hud, the mission you're on. Starfield doesn't, the game is missing key elements of what every other game has.
I don't see the hate on this game I'm really enjoying it, yeah there could of been seemless flying out of orbit but I don't really care about the fast travel Maybe they can implement I don't know
My biggest gripe is how pretty much every skill is essential to every character. Makes me much less inclined to have multiple characters that specialize in different things.
That's what the Newgame+ mode is for... once you beat the game, all your acquired skills carry over into a new game, but nothing else. So get the most essential skills on the first playthrough then others you wanted to check out on your following playthroughs.
Welcome to Bethesda Game Studios. They made the game, then stripped-off features as skills. How is a grenade-throwing arc a skill? It's an aid due to control limitations, and has no impact on character whatsoever. Not to mention not all skills hold the same value, even for different classes, and not all classes are equally viable. This is Skyrim's perk system all over again. Maybe you should play Baldur's Gate 3.
So i am wondering what everyone thinks about channels like legacy gaming getting early access then release videos on the early access launch date. I personally do not like this. As I am not giving Bethesda $100 just to play early. The rest of the package i do not want. So i keep seeing ur videos about this game but i been ignoring them as i am not playing. So i do not get spoilers. But also at the same time i worry about your channel cause normally the first 24 hours of a video drop are critical. Thoughts?
We always say if you dont want to watch them and enjoy the game, do just that. It wont hurt our feelings. There are plenty looking for this content on day 1.
I appreciate Legacy gaming not revealing spoilers in this early video, though personally I logged almost 20 hours in the game before coming to see what their opinion was on important skills. :) I probably wouldn’t have changed a thing, but it also wouldn’t have hurt my experience if I’d watch this one right at early access launch.

They didn’t put it on the list because their recommendation was picking the background that starts you off with the pilot skill

Well, hands down my first run will be a Malcolm Reynolds run. So Pistols, Charisma skills, and Ship skills...maybe some unarmed in there for funsies.

One does not simply use a consumables, that barrel on my ship isn't gonna fill itself.

Is there a skill that, when scanning plants and animals on planets it doesnt take like 20 times for it to be fully scanned. This is really annoying.

I know this is old, but for anybody that's new that needs to know, there is a botany skill and another 1 for fauna. Each rank lowers the amount needed to scan by 1, so you go from 8 with 0 skill points invested to 4 with them maxed out. Plus each rank gives more resources when looting. You also need rank 1 to build greenhouses and basically cages for animals at outposts.
9 times out of 10, that master lock has 300 credits and a roll of toilet paper in it

I'm actually having trouble finding safes and doors to lockpick that are below Expert level. Hard to level up lockpicking when I can't find anything to pick. Any hints on where I can find some low level locks to pick?
Try Exploring low lvl planets
Pilot and security are important to me so have invested into them.

Seems like a solid plan. Unlock as many as the “required” skills as possible early on.

But you only need the skills for your play style because I’m sure if you do it that way you won’t be able to fully upgrade your favorite abilities
Depends on the difficulty you play on, don't really need much in combat on normal

I'm not rushing through the main story, but having a general range of skill points I can expect at end game would be nice to know when speccing out a potential character. I currently have no clue. Is there a hard level lock?

No level cap. Another tuber touched on limitless missions. If you are familiar with fallout 4, i am sure the same leveling system applies to this one as well.
The level cap is around 360 to get all the skills. It took me 10 hours to get to level 7! In Skyrim I could do that in an hour! This is the best game I have ever played except for morrowind. This is way more fun than RDR2

I think I started the pirate infiltration quest too early, I kept getting beaten in the fight trying to help one of crimson fleet’s boss, it’s like 3 enemy ships against 1 and I just keep losing
Dude I JUST did this and I had to turn my difficulty down from Hard to easy just for this fight… I didn’t have an option other than reverting back to a wayyyy earlier save and just going off and doing other things. Did it feel wrong, yes… but I’ll pause on these and go do other things till I’m higher level
@abdu8745 luckily I don't think there are any achievements for completing the game on the hardest difficulty. So difficulty is just for personal preference really
LOL same situation here. I killed the first group of 3 pirates but the second group? I ran to New Atlantis for a repair and I think they followed me? Idk, because when I go back to Altair and to fight them, they aren’t there. Idk if I’ll ever be able to finish that quest 💀💀💀

I mean… you could easily pick a background that has 2 of those and then just pick persuasion with your first point on level up?
I feel like security is mostly pointless to start with since it takes a few locations before you can start accumulating digi-picks anyway.
I personally liked starting with pilot + ballistic to take advantage of the combat you're going to get thrown into immediately anyway, and then adding security, stealth, persuasion, surveying, etc as I went along.

Target control isn't that necessary to me. You can board ships just by shooting their health low, specifically with lasers.
Get all of the skills? I do WANT all of them but, pistols and medicine very much reduced the stress I was having with combat. The targeting engines should be must get with 4th or 5th point spent. I’ve started multiple characters and while nice a lot of the skills are less useful early - melee, leadership, outpost/shipbuild. I think a case could be made for pushing pilot to unlock A ships? Haven’t gotten that far but I feel like it’s slow going to get there and I might regret points spent elsewhere
You have to get weight lifting due to how aggressive encumbrance is in this game. We all love encumbrance huh
You can skip a lot of these if you don't mind using a glitch. Commerce for instance, just loot the Ship Technician a couple of times and money isn't an issue then.

Disagree with commerce. Credits are easy to come by. I am level 30 and I have nearly 500K credits. No commerce and no weight lifting.
Thief is a good one too I make a lot of credits off of it most of the NPCs behind The register have almost a thousand credit 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

It’s insane how much there is to do and learn about in this game. I’m convinced most of the haters are on PlayStation because I haven’t had a day yet where I didn’t want to get on Xbox and play starfield. If I didn’t work I’d be on all day 😂
How does chameleon work? does the stealth increase if it is located on more armor pieces? like helmet and spacesuit > only on helmet?
How early in the game do you get access to a boost pack assuming you already have the skill? If I go bounty hunter can i boost pack from the start?

Why doesn't my hud say the mission im on? I pause the game and come back running at a marker i dont remember what that marker is for. 7/10. Needs Polish to be 9/10
There are so many missions you can pick up, it’s easy to accidentally hit the ‘make mission active’ button when trying to move fast. The trick is making sure your ‘active mission’ is what you think it is.
This will help:
When you’re paused select missions from the bottom of the menu circle and pick the mission you want to be active. The waypoint/s will be for the active mission you have selected.
@@KarateBubba you missed my point, every game has on the hud, the mission you're on. Starfield doesn't, the game is missing key elements of what every other game has.

I don't see the hate on this game I'm really enjoying it, yeah there could of been seemless flying out of orbit but I don't really care about the fast travel

My biggest gripe is how pretty much every skill is essential to every character. Makes me much less inclined to have multiple characters that specialize in different things.
That's what the Newgame+ mode is for... once you beat the game, all your acquired skills carry over into a new game, but nothing else. So get the most essential skills on the first playthrough then others you wanted to check out on your following playthroughs.

Welcome to Bethesda Game Studios. They made the game, then stripped-off features as skills. How is a grenade-throwing arc a skill? It's an aid due to control limitations, and has no impact on character whatsoever. Not to mention not all skills hold the same value, even for different classes, and not all classes are equally viable. This is Skyrim's perk system all over again.
Maybe you should play Baldur's Gate 3.
So i am wondering what everyone thinks about channels like legacy gaming getting early access then release videos on the early access launch date. I personally do not like this. As I am not giving Bethesda $100 just to play early. The rest of the package i do not want. So i keep seeing ur videos about this game but i been ignoring them as i am not playing. So i do not get spoilers. But also at the same time i worry about your channel cause normally the first 24 hours of a video drop are critical. Thoughts?
We always say if you dont want to watch them and enjoy the game, do just that. It wont hurt our feelings. There are plenty looking for this content on day 1.
I appreciate Legacy gaming not revealing spoilers in this early video, though personally I logged almost 20 hours in the game before coming to see what their opinion was on important skills. :)
I probably wouldn’t have changed a thing, but it also wouldn’t have hurt my experience if I’d watch this one right at early access launch.
