      And since it's people's mental health we're talking about, it's not just a scam like those fake lord titles, it's actually dangerous.

    Heres the thing about gouging fire: its a monstrous defensive mon
    It has access to morning sun, temper flare, and stomping tantrum
    With sun boosted recovery, a burning protect, and temper flare and stomping tantrum to capitalize on protect spamming, all of which under sun, makes a truly terrifying goliath to deal with

      @jaipadv8282 11 місяців тому +2

      @@EmersonCRVGthe issue is that both of those types are still neutral, and for vgc it gains a ground weakness as well
      Fire offers good coverage to dragon, but the dragon type defensively offers nothing to the fire type
      So defensive variants of gouging fire (forgot the name already in case I got it wrong) won't be terribly common unless paired with something like Rillaboom
      Which even then still has weaknesses like rock, as well as ice water and fairy neutrality

    The reason I think that Iron Boulder could be a meta changer is out it checks incineroar. Give it a mental herb and it can ensure that fake out won’t stop a mighty cleave, and pair it with a howl user to counteract intimidate. I think a lot of it’s value is gonna come from its interactions with incineroar.

    • @nicolaistuhlmuller8718
      @nicolaistuhlmuller8718 11 місяців тому +6

      Checking Incineroar isn't hard though, and Howl is vastly inferior to Swords Dance anyways, which most physical attackers learn.

      @@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 Howl isn't used on meta teams because almost no meta teams use Pokemon that learn Howl, with the exception of some teams that use Arcanine and its Hisui form. Howl still has some uses in competitive, and the fact that you instead decide to shun an idea instead of thinking it over proves a lack of experimentation, which is key for most high performing teams over the years.

    • @nicolaistuhlmuller8718
      @nicolaistuhlmuller8718 11 місяців тому +1

      @@rootbeeraddict4885 Alolan Ninetails saw lots of usage and also learns Howl, and its entire thing was buffing teammates, yet it never ran Howl. Zacian and Zamazenta both learn it too. And never ran it.
      The issue here is that you need to evaluate pros and cons for moves. You don't need to experiment with moves like Thundershock to know they are bad for example.
      And in gen7 there was a somewhat famous low ladder strategy build entirely around countering Incineroar with a Competitive + Adrenaline Orb Milotic so Intimidate would give it a massive stat boost.
      It was never successful outside of low ladder. Because being able to check Incineroar doesn't mean much. It's a support. It doesn't need to be checked, if it got some free turns out for its teammate then it fulfilled its job.

With new ways to bypass protect entering the format, follow me is going to be super useful and played a lot. Doesn’t hurt that Pokémon like Ogerpon, both friend guard mons, incin, and indeedee all get the move and are super popular right now. I think you might be mistaken on double battle Iron Boulder, I just watched Wolfe Glick's video yesterday and he seemed pretty convinced that it would be broken there due to mighty cleave being a strong 1-turn STAB attack that goes through protect. If you watch a lot of VGC then you've seen how much they rely on protect so a speedy pokemon that can pick up kills on otherwise safe pokemon and ignore strategic protects could be huge. I could see it being interesting on a team with Archaludon if follow me sees a little more play, as the two of them make switching the only option in a lot of cases to protect a low-health pokemon.

      If a defensive archuladon can learn electric terrain then yeah actually, on turns with double protect prediction you can get free terrain up and set up iron boulder even better

      Yeah, I think it mostly doesn’t have to worry, it’s faster and I ran the calcs, Urshifu Aqua Jet doesn’t kill from full even with Chien-Pao. It gets wild charge to hit back or solar blade to fit on sun teams and if it gets a boost either from swords dance or terrain it’s an OHKO.
      While Archaludon is fun, it doesn’t get electric terrain. I think it’s more likely we’d see it with Raging Bolt to punish the priority plus possible electric terrain + rising voltage shenanigans.

    It's a fast, strong, attacker with good defenses and a move that ignores protect. It just has a pretty bad defensive typing which sadly might be enough to push it upside down and laugh at its legs waving in the air.

      Typing doesn’t inherently make or break the Pokémon. Despite being one of the main reasons Heavy-Duty Boots were introduced last gen, Volcarona is still a fantastic Pokémon in singles. Hell, it’s Ubers this gen thanks to Tera. I don’t play doubles, so I can’t speak on that front though.

      @@powwowken2760 the thing about Lando-T is that it's still mostly a utility supporter. There are a lot more great mons with a 4x weakness to ice (like Garchomp or Dragonite) but those are offensive mons anyways. Lando-T and Gliscor show that even support or fully defensive mons with a 4x weakness to ice can be insane.
      The thing is, in all honesty, a 4x weakness often doesn't matter more than a 2x weakness anyways. For example would you want Hydrapple to eat fairy or dragon moves either? You have a full team to take care of weaknesses and you can avoid moves you're weak to.
      When they connect, it often really doesn't matter how much you're weak to.
      Because of that it's usually the amount of weaknesses that count, not how strong they are. Having barely any weakness is great for a defensive mon, even if they are x4.
