Flare Blitz has recoil, but it's so much worse when your opponents survive because you used a weak move than to take some recoil.
Iron Boulder is Insane! It's a fast, strong, attacker with good defenses and a move that ignores protect. It just has a pretty bad defensive typing which sadly might be enough to push it upside down and laugh at its legs waving in the air.
Typing doesn’t inherently make or break the Pokémon. Despite being one of the main reasons Heavy-Duty Boots were introduced last gen, Volcarona is still a fantastic Pokémon in singles. Hell, it’s Ubers this gen thanks to Tera. I don’t play doubles, so I can’t speak on that front though.
@@fencerderio9814 It makes the things fast offensive threats like Iron Bloulder want to do much harder though. Finding switch ins and surviving once you find them become much harder when more attacks do twice the normal damage. In VGC Boulder wants to take advantage of the threat of Mighty Cleave to limit the opponent's defensive options but being frail means it would need more help from its partner to force the opponent to choose defensive options in the first place.
i think you're underrating gouging fire's tools. it has fire type outrage for choice band sets in singles and a protect that burns on contact is crazy powerful in doubles
You forgot to mention Iron Boulder's signature move goes through protect, which can be very useful in doubles It will be way better in singles, tho. I think Entei's paradox form will also be good in singles, either mid-OU or top-UU. Iron Boulder will straight up be OU with Choice Band, Choice Scarf and SS sets.
I think you underestimate how _broken_ having a decent speed and a good BP move that ignores protect does for a mon in VGC. Iron Boulder is 100% gonna be format warping just like urshifu
They made Gouging Fire the simplest, dumbest combination of fire lion and triceratops specifically for me and me alone, and I'll be damned if I don't immediately throw it on my team and lose every match I get into with it.
After using Gouging Fire, I wouldn't be surprised if its banned. My boy is so strong, barely anything hits it hard enough in the tier. The dragon dance is free, Heat crash does 120 since its huge and its OHKO city from there.
Archeludon has had a lot of interest in VGC on rain teams. It looks really interesting because it’s able to set up multiple spatk boosts offsetting the spatk drops from Draco Meteor. However, I think VGC people are sleeping on Iron Boulder. The ability to hit through protect is very strong. Pair that with swords dance and it should make a very strong sweeper in VGC.
worth noting that raging bolt is the only pokemon to get rising voltage this time; it's admittedly much harder to make it work since tapu koko is gone but it's still theoretically a brutally powerful move to be aware of
Went through the different mons that can get electric terrain to double that and yeah there's a decent list it, including a fast Iron Boulder or bulky Iron Hands with Raging Bolt as it's special coverage
Iron Crown and Iron Boulder really appeal to me, but I wish they weren't burdened with the Psychic typing. But honestly, all of the new pokemon seem super cool, love the designs (visually and competitively).
Gouging Fire looks absolutely badass but Terapagos is my favorite. Cute little baby turtle's already been banned from OU. I can't wait to see him terrorize Ubers.
I wish they made the paradox mons tera raids. It's ridiculously hard to trade for the paradox mon when literally no one who has Scarlet wants the future ones
I found Archaludon with an assault vest to be an absolute wall that helps support your 2nd pokemon. With both breaking swipe and snarl being possible for it.
I have a rain team with Primarina, hydrapple and archaladon. Stamina assault vest arch with life dew and pollen puff to heal and you have a terrifying mixed attacker with no need for any Physical investment. Pair that with Lando and decorate Alcreamie and you have one of the scariest rain teams in the meta.
I think on rain teams or grassy surge archaludon will be great. Assault vest is an incredible option and a moveset of electro shot, draco, flash cannon, and body press/aura sphere allows it to abuse that perfectly.
Hi, im the pokemon pro so ill explain all the new pokemon: Terapagos. Broken Raging Bolt. Good Gourging Pyre. Very good Iron Boulder. Very good Iron Crown. Meh Hydrapple. Meh Archaludon. Good Thank you
I'd be surprised if we don't see Archaludon paired with Assault Vest from time to time. Without enough speed to really capitalize on Scarf, and with a shortage of useful utility moves in its moveset (Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, and not much else), Archaludon + 4 attacks will probably be a common approach, and AV can help it avoid being overwhelmed.
I feel like archaludon might be really good as a partner to a rain boosted urshifu or any powerfull rain Pokemon. Im excited to see how the meta shifts around all of the new Pokemon.
Hydrapple: "Look at my awesome defensive stats!" Also Hydrapple: *Gets oneshot by a cold breeze* I guess you could run a Trick Room team and ALWAYS Tera it, but since Ice is one of the most common type coverage moves people run it's kind of doomed in every single other context.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 I mean Lando is one of the most Pokemon to ever be introduced so that's a bit unfair... I'll give you Gliscor though, that's a fair point.
@@powwowken2760 the thing about Lando-T is that it's still mostly a utility supporter. There are a lot more great mons with a 4x weakness to ice (like Garchomp or Dragonite) but those are offensive mons anyways. Lando-T and Gliscor show that even support or fully defensive mons with a 4x weakness to ice can be insane. The thing is, in all honesty, a 4x weakness often doesn't matter more than a 2x weakness anyways. For example would you want Hydrapple to eat fairy or dragon moves either? You have a full team to take care of weaknesses and you can avoid moves you're weak to. When they connect, it often really doesn't matter how much you're weak to. Because of that it's usually the amount of weaknesses that count, not how strong they are. Having barely any weakness is great for a defensive mon, even if they are x4.
As a Fire specialist, Iron Boulder really scares me. Normal Terrakion was already super scary with its high speed and 100% accurate Stone Edges against me. But now I can barely do anything. Which means I have to make to Pokemon to counter it specifically, which I absolutely hate
I don't think Gouging Fire is completely 1-dimensional. I can see it being a great physical wall with some combination of Burning Bulwark, Morning Sun, Heat Crash (the mon is super heavy), Roar, Dragon Tail, Substitute. Loaded Dice + Scale Shot is also a viable offensive set, as is Booster Energy and a choice item.
I feel like iron crown + expanding force is pretty over looked. With indeede + encore you immediately switch and activate booster energy for a +speed and calm mind set or +spA and agility set. Two of iron crown’s bigfest weaknesses are steel and dark types like gholdengo, corviknight, and Kingambit. Expanding force is strong enough to two shot resists after a boost and Tera blast fighting cleans up dark types.
I don't actually think Terapagos is a restricted legendary, simply because the form it has without Terastalizing is only 600 BST and that 700 is mostly an HP boost. It would be pretty bad as a restricted legendary due to requiring Tera to work when against the like of Zacian or Miraidon.
This thing has basically got Multiscale but way better in combination with Calm Mind and Rock Polish. It's way too OP for OU, as seen in the new videos by Jimothy Cool and Chompy.
@@linkloyan4624 Because of it's Stellar form, yes, but being a restricted legend has nothing to do with Smogon tiering at all (Zamazenta is in OU), but it has everything to do with VGC. If it's not a restricted, it'll be good in VGC. If it is, it'll be unusable because you can only have 2 on your team and in order for Terapagos to have stats on par with the likes of Koraidon and Miraidon it HAS to Terastalize, which completely removes the option from the rest of your team which is really bad, so players would always opt for restricted legends that would not have such insane commitment cost.
@@Hammerbruder99 Cool, the matter of being restricted or not has nothing to do with it's actual strength here, I am solely concerned with how it's legality in VGC will work.
i feel iron crown has some potential in doubles, mainly because its the only other expanding force user and combine it with tera fighting terablast, (protect and calm mind orher move slot)crown could potentially be pretty strong despite the incineroar weakness. As well as being decently fast with booster energy

It's kind of useless since the only terrain setters in VGC and Smogon OU is pincurchin but raging bolt being able to set its own terrain for an effectively 182 BP STAB, no drawback move with more base special attack than flutter mane cannot be sugarcoated.
Rising Voltage isn't signature, it's a gen 8 DLC tutor move. It just probably seems exclusive due to limited distribution.@@SK-df1iw
2 months later archaladon was banned to ubers
So many people don't realize that goated fire has heat crash and it weighs 1300.7 lbs or 590 kg.
That's... not that much actually. You need to be 5x as heavy as your target to deal full damage.
so? u can use temper flare if u really want to use it to hit something other than ghold or other ligher mons. It doesn't even need to be at max power to be strong, base 100 or 80 can do a lot of damage at +1 or 2.
@@Pando0678 using two offensive fire moves on the same set really messes up your coverage, so yeah just settling for Flare Blitz is still generally the best option.
I meant over heat crash, do you think I'm stupid to use two moves of the same type without one of them being priority or something?
@@Pando0678 so you wouldn't use Heat Crash in the first place. It's still better to just use Flare Blitz though. Stomping Tantrum was mostly useful as a move because it's a single target ground move and so you don't need to worry about hitting your partner, but there's no reason to use Temper Flare. Flare Blitz has recoil, but it's so much worse when your opponents survive because you used a weak move than to take some recoil.
How come beterhelp is back on youtube for sponsorships. They where outed as a scam years ago. Please do a bit of research of what you promote.
Iron Boulder is Insane!
It's a fast, strong, attacker with good defenses and a move that ignores protect. It just has a pretty bad defensive typing which sadly might be enough to push it upside down and laugh at its legs waving in the air.
The swords of justice paradoxes really got screwed over. The beasts gained the dragon typing, meanwhile the swords only gain psychic
@fencerderio9814 I know, psychic is still fairly underwhelming compared to dragon though
Already know this is gonna be a banger
I can’t wait to play Duraladon with eviolite in little cup
It was already quick banned, iirc, much like Girafarig was.
iron boulder should've been called iron taker (anagram of terrakion)
That would have been genius!
i think you're underrating gouging fire's tools. it has fire type outrage for choice band sets in singles and a protect that burns on contact is crazy powerful in doubles
“I wont offer judgement on whether theyre good or bad”
Meanwhile the rhimbnail…
You didnt even mention gouging fire's signature move - its really really good ^
2:42 "Anything steel is automatically a good defensive typing"
Ice and rock would like to talk with you, Freezai.
An accurate Rock move, never thought I'd see the day.
You forgot to mention Iron Boulder's signature move goes through protect, which can be very useful in doubles
It will be way better in singles, tho.
It also has a 100% accurate rock type move that’s the scary part
No, he said that it goes through protect.
I have been using Raging Bolt in the showdown vgc ladder and it’s proven to be really strong, even without Calm Mind
Wouldn't Iron Boulder's signature move be good in Doubles since it bypasses Protect?
They made Gouging Fire the simplest, dumbest combination of fire lion and triceratops specifically for me and me alone, and I'll be damned if I don't immediately throw it on my team and lose every match I get into with it.
Sounds like a skill issue
@@JaleelJCarter Bro got mad that I love that the mon is simple lmao
No he’s mad that you lost with a good mon
@shirshobanerjee7751 Almost like I said I'm going to, not that I did.
I like Hydrapple best because of those multiple heads plus that fickle beam is devastating.
Holy fuck its a staple remover how did i just see that
Iron Crown and Iron Boulder really appeal to me, but I wish they weren't burdened with the Psychic typing. But honestly, all of the new pokemon seem super cool, love the designs (visually and competitively).
I wish they had made Psychic Noise block Regenerator. Would have made it a way better move.
Yay Terapogchamp is getting it's own video
Protect + burn on contact is wild
Iron crown psyspam when it sees incinerroar is back
I think we're going to see a lot more Clear Amulet in VGC now... just a feeling.
5:44 Freezai was getting a call
I checked my phone at that point in the video cause I thought I was getting a call.
Gouging Fire looks absolutely badass but Terapagos is my favorite. Cute little baby turtle's already been banned from OU. I can't wait to see him terrorize Ubers.
Where’d you go freezai? I miss you homie ❤
Iron Crown seems like a good candidate for Stellar Tera
I wish they made the paradox mons tera raids. It's ridiculously hard to trade for the paradox mon when literally no one who has Scarlet wants the future ones
The way you pronounce Terapagos drives me up the wall
he pronounces it better at the end lmao xD
'Because it's only day one, I won't be saying whether I think a pokemon is good or bad'
Look at the thumbnail, sir
game freak challenge: make a 100 accuracy rock move that isn't signature (Impossible!!!!)
There is Power Gem which is 100% accurate
@RubicXK i think special rock moves usually have 100 accuracy, but physical rock moves almost never do
Smack Down
But it's only good if you use Earthquake on the next turn.
congratz on 150k subscriber, really proud
Coming back to this a while after the archaludon ban is interesting
I see Fickle Beam as a Dragon Pulse with a 30% chance of becoming a Draco Meteor and I find that fun
130 BP and 160 BP are not comparable
Much better than Draco Meteor. 160 base power puts it in Z-move or G-max move territory
More like dragon pulse but it has a 30% chance to be eternabeam without drawback
Of all the new Pokemon, I definitely like Iron Crown best.
Hey, can we get a vid on the new SV Ou sleep ban? Would love your take on it.
i’m pretty sure it’s pronounced tear Ah Puh Gos like Galapagos plus tera
I think on rain teams or grassy surge archaludon will be great. Assault vest is an incredible option and a moveset of electro shot, draco, flash cannon, and body press/aura sphere allows it to abuse that perfectly.
Hi, im the pokemon pro so ill explain all the new pokemon:
Terapagos. Broken
Raging Bolt. Good
Gourging Pyre. Very good
Iron Boulder. Very good
Iron Crown. Meh
Hydrapple. Meh
Archaludon. Good
Thank you
Terapagos- was ou :p
I'd be surprised if we don't see Archaludon paired with Assault Vest from time to time. Without enough speed to really capitalize on Scarf, and with a shortage of useful utility moves in its moveset (Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, and not much else), Archaludon + 4 attacks will probably be a common approach, and AV can help it avoid being overwhelmed.
you forgot about raging bolt's rising voltage. That move makes it ridiculously deadly in electric terrain.
We don't have a good enough electric terrain setter to warrant the extra turn for setup on that move just to be negated by ground types, but yeah
crazy how they buffed calm mind into a 80BP damaging move
What a fantastic and informative video. Keep up the great work ❤
I feel like archaludon might be really good as a partner to a rain boosted urshifu or any powerfull rain Pokemon. Im excited to see how the meta shifts around all of the new Pokemon.
Hydrapple: "Look at my awesome defensive stats!"
Also Hydrapple: *Gets oneshot by a cold breeze*
I guess you could run a Trick Room team and ALWAYS Tera it, but since Ice is one of the most common type coverage moves people run it's kind of doomed in every single other context.
Lando-T and Gliscor show pretty well why a x4 weakness to ice isn't that bad.
Raging bolt is definitely my favourite pokemon of this DLC and my favourite Paradox Pokemon. Don't know how anyone could hate it.
The biggest competitive shakeup is that Incineroar is back in VGC
U are underestimating how important ignoring follow me and rage power is
As a Fire specialist, Iron Boulder really scares me. Normal Terrakion was already super scary with its high speed and 100% accurate Stone Edges against me. But now I can barely do anything. Which means I have to make to Pokemon to counter it specifically, which I absolutely hate
smeargle being able to use gouging pyre’s protect but it burns sounds like hell
2:41 bastiodon would like to know your location.
I originally thought Iron Crown would be a good Expanding force user but forgot that Incineroar is back. Guess I'm back to using Armarouge.
Lizards go cool roar and robots go neon all the road, end of story.
It would be pretty bad as a restricted legendary due to requiring Tera to work when against the like of Zacian or Miraidon.
well… it got banned from OU after about a day
This thing has basically got Multiscale but way better in combination with Calm Mind and Rock Polish.
It has better multiscale and the same movepool it's still op.
5:40 You can faintly hear a phone ringtone in the voiceover.
Just gotta love Game Freak taking Mega Evolution away from all the Pokemon that needed it but constantly finding new names for it to stay on Ubers
2:40 - Alolan Sandslash “hold my beer”
Bruh Iron Boulder Urshifu core is gonna be SO annoying to deal with
I kinda wish Archaludon had Strong Jaw as a third ability option, solely because he kinda looks like a stapler from the back lmao
5:44 thought I was getting a call for a second, haha
i feel iron crown has some potential in doubles, mainly because its the only other expanding force user and combine it with tera fighting terablast, (protect and calm mind orher move slot)crown could potentially be pretty strong despite the incineroar weakness. As well as being decently fast with booster energy
But Expanding Force is a TM now
Terapagos is my new son and I will use him no matter if he’s good or bad, that’s why he’s GOD
