I have no idea why, but this has always been my favorite song from from this album, from when we would go on road trips. Barely old enough to wipe my own spit, and it was a classic then. If this song is on, I catch it in the ribs when I change gears. ;)
Probably 1979 in reality, since the album was released on 10th January 1980. It was most likely already in the warehouses before Christmas 1979, waiting to be released in the new year.
Going by the SOS piece on the album Trevor was always pushing the engineer, now this could have been seen as Trevor being a bit of pain to work with but he supposedly only did it as he knew the engineer had more in him and he wanted to bring it out. Not surprising really given that Trevor became one of the best producers of all time.
I love the way this track - the whole album really - seems to me to convey a celebration of the future (in 1980), and a warning. Sort of like a musical version of Ray Bradbury or JG Ballard. Beautiful music, especially the female vocal treatment towards the end.
I get this imagery a bit like the second half of 'akira' 'the stadium' where you have this futuristic world in concrete bathing in sunlight this futuristic city. at 3:20 there's this part you can see these 'poles' flashing by ahahaha.. top notch production by trevor horn later productions were also good but this is the real thing. this has the real 'imagery'
there's also 'julie with' by brian eno which has the same kind of imagery or at least imagery (slightly different). I don't know I I know any more in this category the FSOL cd 'dead cities' is pretty awesome but that's more on the dark side of things. it's pretty hard to get these kind of things. 'hypothesis' by vangelis has more or less the same kind of thing going on this kind of futuristic city but maybe it's just the album picture.
maybe that 'space rock' category from the 70's is interesting I once sat in a car and that guy had that 70's space rock thing playing and the driver said "why don't they make that thing anymore' and I said 'that can't be done' and the guy immideately agreed with me 'no that can't be done' it's a product of time you can't really replicate that. for the rest I really have to dive into 'space rock' it's completely unknown to me but it sounds pretty interesting :)
but anyway I've commented enough. there's also the 'cendre' album by ryuichi sakamoto that is good stuff. And there is john hassell. there is so much good stuff it's 'riticulus'
Must've been challenging to work with most advanced and experimental sound tech. Rest of the industry simply followed these guys within year or two. Buggles really are a timeless piece of music. Even at 2021 AD.
There was a video a few years back of this song with the Disney monorail. Used to show it to my grandsons when they were young and going to Disney every year or so. They loved it then. Very catchy tune.
I hear Johnny Weslow. I have a dim memory of this meaning something, but I have no idea what it might have been if not my brain helpfully filling in the blanks.
he's saying "Johnny goes home". But I do love the Tommy Wiseau inadvertent connection, especially considering that he played a character called Johnny.
Thank you Beard Bros
I love this dude's voice. Really enjoy his work on the Yes Drama album
Drama's exactly how I got here. I have it and this album on cd, and they're both fantastic.

The production on this song is amazing for 1980.

Andy JS how do you know
@@Cosmetic_Astro By looking it up?

Most of this album was 1979
Great high energy pop song. The synthesizer sounds really fresh and lovely! 🙌🌞
I have both of the BUGGLES Albums and I wish they had done more music both there albums are Great
What a good song. I like the Buggles even in 2018
Absolute perfection from start to finish....the Paris Pullman is in my mind again
Strange fact 21 years after this came out they built a private 11 mile under ground Monorail starting in Elstree.
I really miss this kind of music on nowadays ;-;
I love the ending; I imagine it’s in the future and the barking dog is a robot..!🪐💫🐕🤖
Do android dogs dream of chasing electric squirrels?

and yes this is totally top notch when it comes to that category absolutely top notch
there's also 'morgenspaziergang' by kraftwerk that's also very surrialistic

great song from a great man
These guys really are into the modern technology in 1979 or 1978

musical talent of this quality does not exist today.
It does. You just have to look for it.
True pioneers! That’s why the were the first on mtv
Un clásico imperecedero. Aún lo estoy buscando para comprarlo en formato físico.
great song,from a great album,thanks for uploading
What is the song about?
Basically, about this guy named Johnny, and he's riding on this monorail.
There was a video a few years back of this song with the Disney monorail. Used to show it to my grandsons when they were young and going to Disney every year or so. They loved it then. Very catchy tune.
bluemax1990 Ça va
Trevor & Geoff are the best.
I'm curious as to whether you thought I was talking about you and Geoff the landlord. The members of Buggles are also named Trevor and Geoff.
NOVIEMBRE 2022 ESCUCHANDO Y TU?????
The second half of this song is amazing
Amazing.
Buena visión para darle ritmo a sus canciones.

4:45 is he saying Tommy wiseau ?

He said : «Johnny Reslo»
"Time is Up"
Its Johnny Reslo xx
A monorail in Canada? What is this song about? Love the 1960s western movie music component in here at 1:42.
It's a Science Fiction song, so not about anything real. The whole album is about a futuristic Age Of Plastic.
I wonder if it's perhaps referencing the 1960s World's Fairs (1962 Seattle; New York 1964). eg ua-cam.com/video/6RojRZDsPbw/v-deo.html
Or possibly this promotional clip: ua-cam.com/video/HecL2rUTnvA/v-deo.html
Nice
Did Johnny on the Monorail track actually have an official video? How come this beautiful Buggles track does not have its video shown on UA-cam?
It wasn't released as a single, they never made a video
dude now I want to make a fan music video of this!
Ahead of the times
