Vernon Dursley hates anyone he doesn't consider normal or proper. Petunia Dursley is jealous because her sister was magic and she wasn't. There's a reason why Harry has to live there that they don't explain in the movies but I can't explain until later. These get darker and darker as they go on.
The first two films are really childish … but after those two they get better and better and darker and darker! It’s hard to see your face and how you’re reacting.
