I do "trial run" with 3 sessions offer for my neurofeedback services as well when speaking with potential clients.

I was surprised I was able to charge the rate I wanted and do only virtual. I noticed I was getting niched by the clients who sought me out. So I changed my psychology today ad to reflect the niche and I’ve been able to access clients from far away because of the unique treatment I can offer and have no problem paying the rate.

First...I have to thank you for giving me the courage to begin my private practice-you are amazing! I am just in the beginning phase I just signed up for the therapy notes through your site... but honestly you have helped me with every detail-sending you heartfelt appreciation!! But I do have a question about determining someones actual financial need. I mean how do YOU do that? I would love some advice on how to handle this-thank you!

Another thing that makes a rate less or non-negotiable is that therapists are offering professional relationships. Relationships. Yes. Not just a "service" and certainly not just a "procedure" even though the reductionistic view of the medical model and "medical necessity" criteria of insurance companies would insist.

How do you deal with clients who expect the transformation but it seems they want it by just showing up without doing any work or making effort in or out of therapy? I've had clients come once or twice and ask specifically when things will change or ask what exactly they can do to get better. I try to reflect on the therapy I am offering in order to explore any changes I can make in my approach to address clients expectations in therapy. Do you have any videos or comments on this?

I am going to open on December 1st. My niches include: trauma (EMDR Certified), Eating Disorders, Sports Performance and Christian therapy. I think the fact that I am doing ED will get me clients b/c a lot of Therapists aren’t trained nor interested in ED’s.

So the trial period is offered for free?

    • @dayanahernandez6752

You charge your full rate during the trial period. Some potential clients may be apprehensive about starting therapy because of the amount of money they will have to pay to stay in therapy for several months. They might think they will look bad or offend their therapist if they leave after only a few sessions. They also might feel like if they stop after only a few sessions then they are giving up and that could lead them to feel guilty or ashamed. To ease their worries, let them know that if after 3 sessions they aren't seeing any changes, it's totally okay to leave. And you will even help them find other options. It will change their perspective from a scary "If I book an appointment, I'm committing to therapy for months, maybe years, and if therapy doesn't help, I will lose many thousands of dollars" to a manageable "If I book an appointment today, I'm committing to 3 sessions, and if therapy doesn't help me, I will only lose a few hundred dollars."

Having a hard time getting leads, for sure. Google ads is not working for me.

Marie thank you for this video, keep them coming. I did everything that you said and much more: google ads, I’m on every single directory out there, connected to doctors etc. Unfortunately it’s not that easy to keep maintaining folks at $120, which is lower than your rate. I need a minimum of 20 clients per week and I’m on my own in a private practice. It just seems you have to be very well known by the community etc. When I lowered my rates I got a constant flow and number of clients that I needed…I guess you can maintain it as high as you want if you are not an associate and if you are ok with 5-10 clients. It’s a good idea for the future!
