Actually the biggest reason why I think we don't have GameCube games is because they started being kinda heavy and the program would be the size of smash ultimate with a couple of games. I can see them making a GameCube online service if the next console is at least 128gb at base
i don’t see why they’d need a 128gb base console for a 30 - 35ish gig max emulator (without all the shovelware and games they can’t get license for or whatever) yes i get that if you did that without an SD card you’d have literally nothing but by that logic games like fortnite, monster hunter GU, and animal crossing new horizons shouldn’t have been released till next gen since having all 3 would max out your consoles base storage anyway i think if they just put some of the heavy hitters then it could be possible

Judging by how much storage costs in phones, i'd see absolutely no reason for it to have less than 128gb. Switch 2 could have 512gb storage easily (as it doesn't have or need the expensive, super fast ssd storage ps5 and xbox x have), and it would probably increase the overall console price by less than 50 dollars. So, make a base version with 128gb and then a bigger one for 50 more with 512. But even if that's not the case, they could still make the Nintendo online app work like an "App Store" in which you can choose the game you want to play and just download it. It wouldn't take too long for most people as gamecube game seach are like 3 gb at most, so even with my absolutely horrendous download speed (i live in Germany) it would only take like 20 minutes max to download.

And while I would love for there to be a GCN catalog on Switch Online like the other consoles, I am 100% down for GameCube remakes! Metroid Prime made me so happy, and I am still losing my mind over TTYD!! I need it to be out already!!
I think the absolute biggest reason why the Switch doesn't/ won't have a GCN VC collection is storage. Storage would explain why games ranging from the NES to the N64 to the GBA have had VC releases since the Wii, yet GCN games have only had ports and remakes in the same amount of time. GameCube games are like 1.35GB out of the box. If you scrub them, however, they can get much smaller. An example is Luigi's Mansion goes from 1.35GB to about 200MB (or about the size of every single NES game ever made *COMBINED*) after trimming out all the empty space that goes unused on that disc. Even if you trimmed every single first-party Nintendo game on the GameCube, you'd end up with over 20GB left across more than 25 games. It get's worse once you learn that this is only MY collection, and that there are actually 50 first-party or published Nintendo games on the GCN that probably total to over 40GB, then gets even worse once you learn that this is only games that were released in North America. They would not realistically release every single first-party game and would likely not restrict themselves to first-party games only, but the model written above is still relevant.
Luigi seems to canonically end up with the D-Rank mansion. The opening cutscene of LM2 shows his house from the outside and it is a direct match albeit with some added details. And while it is a far cry from the ones above it, it does look quite cozy and if Luigi lives alone (this is an assumption based upon the fact that there is only a single armchair in, what appears to be, the livingroom) then he probably doesn't need something much bigger (I mean imagine having to clean an entire mansion by yourself). Also, the 3ds remake made a bit of an odd decision when the mansions were redesigned with the D-Rank one. Instead of giving it two chimneys, like in the original, it got a single large one, but they put it on the right side. The "problem" is that Luigi's LM2 house has achimney on the left (you can even see the fireplace behind Luigi while he's sleeping). I wonder why they did that, I mean they could've just taken away the right chimney because that one is obscured by a tree in the opening-scene (although you can catch a quick glimpse of it) and put the single one on the left. Did the addition of Gooigi cause a parralel universe where Luigi is napping in a livingroom without a fireplace? Or perhaps Luigi might now have a completely different mansion and this is a (probably unintentional) retcon so it's up to the player's imagination what mansion Luigi ends up with. Did I spend approximately half an hour looking at a 4k version of the opening cutscene of LM2 and different images of the D-Rank mansion and writing a comment about it? Yes. Was it a waste of my time because most people won't read this? Probably yes. Did I enjoy doing it? Yes, I did.

I would pay 100 usd for a solid sunshine remake ngl. I'd do the same for wind waker. Even though sunshine is already available on switch through the 3d all stars collection, (and even though I already own a copy of that) I really don't care. I'd spend a whole damn paycheck on some of the absolute gamecube gems being remade on switch
