Nah fr, because I recently started realizing grinding out on a game is so time consuming and literally doesn’t matter at the end of the day. But a good single player story is truly a piece of art, and gives and brings a message that i can take away.

I like single player experiences so much partly because not having many friends growing up, I really treasured the games I spent my time on alone and to me, a novice collector, a game who's features depend on internet connection and other players losses replay value across time. To me a game is a memory you can revisit any time you want

The problem is most of this is gorey satanic horror absurdity. Trying to get sales with shock value instead of quality storyboard writing. The quality of gaming is basically in the dumpster at this point. Which is ironic given games finally can look great.

Solo games loses replayability much faster imo. One you finish the 50ish hours of gameplay you dont have much else to do. Maybe do 3 or 4 replays if you are a hardcore fan. But thats about it. Online games wont give you that new game discovery feeling. But you can play them infinitely because you can increase your skills infinitely. Though less chill they allow for more gaming time. Plus they are more likely to get regular updates and content.

As someone who has had a very busy life, finding time to play with others was always a challenge; the ability to just sit down late at night (1 AM or 2 AM) and finally relax with a single player game was always a real treat. They’re becoming so rare these days, a truly sad thing... thanks for this list!

      @nurcirino Рік тому +3

They're not getting rarer, it's us who got older and our tastes who got way more refined. Nowadays our free time is limited and scarce so we don't commit that easily to new games. That's normal because quality triumphs over quantity. I play like 2/3 games a year now but they're the absolute pinnacle of fun and addictive gameplay. Not wanting to sound like some old guru but it's what it is. Adults have varied, different refined tastes and videogames are simply one of them now, not the center of it all.

I do like playing CoD or BF sometimes but for the most part, I actually think gaming is more fun when you're on your own. Like you said, you become part of the story and that is really really fun. Ghosts of Tsushima is one that I really got back into. I started it on PS4, never finished it, then I heard how much praise it was getting with the Director's Cut PS5 version so I got it, and I'm enjoying it again.
Then, I don't know what I want to play. I'm trying to go through older games that I played but didn't beat, and finish them off. Like Horizon. The first one. I never beat it. So that's one I'm playing here and there.
I beat Nier: Automata but then I heard that to get the real ending, you have to play it again. So I want to do that. I'm also playing Outriders on XBSX. I think I like the PS5 better but they are both great.
Anyway, all that to say, I agree. LOL.

If you like survival RPGs with crafting and resource gathering and Honey I Shrunk The Kids check it out because the full release finally adds the big main quest lines. Also shout out to No Man's Sky. The updates this year have added a ton of single player content. It's really become a space RPG. Do you want to be a pirate smuggling goods with a squadron of solar sail ships, or the captain of multiple star destroyers roaming the galaxy establishing bases and squashing pirate forces, or an adventurer exploring derelict freighters and battling alien lifeforms, or maybe you just want to be a gentleman honey farmer. It's all there. Plus one of the most meta main stories ever.

That's a good list. I am looking forward to Scorn for years now (I like the Giger art). Other highlights for me are Callisto Protocol, GhostWire: Tokyo, A Plagues Tale: Requiem and Atomic heart. There are a few games that are not on this list that I am also looking forward to. To name only a few: Star Ocean: The Divine Force, The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, Soul Hackers 2 and Dusk Diver 2 (there are more, but those are the most important to me). For the whole of 2022 I also have to mention some games that are already released for a longer while, like: Atelier Sophie 2, The Caligula Effect 2 an Tales of Arise (there are more, but I keep it short). All of those are really nice single person games.
I only play single player games, because I really like to play in the way I like, without being disturbed by other players (especially on-line jerks). I really gave things like MMO's a fair chance (several times with several game types), but I can say without any doubt those games are simply absolutely and completely not for me. So - Single player only all the way...

THANK YOU!! Oh my goodness, it feels like everything nowadays is built for online play, pigeon-holing me into mainly JRPG's, which I love those games, but I knew there had to be more out there. I already know I'll be watching this video again to write down the ones I want (Cult of the Lamb has been played by a UA-camr I watch and I'm interested in getting it).
I'm also really happy that many of these are still being released on PS4. For once, I'm not being left in the dust the moment a new console comes out that I can't afford. So many people can't afford the scalped prices of the console that I'm not alone in still being on the old gen and game developers are thankfully keeping that in mind. Huge thank you to them for that.

-The first Plague Tale was such a unique game. Great story, characters, combat and puzzles. I'm excited for the 2nd one.
I kinda hope they make it open world? I like linear story games but I think this game would really benefit from being open world and allowing more freedom.
-Callisto Protocol. It's from the creators of the original dead space so I'm excited.
Funnily enough, soon after we're also getting a dead space remake.
    -Gotham Knights.
Doesn't look like a true step forward from the Arkham games but still I'm looking forward to it.
-Scorn and evil west look pretty interesting aswell.
-Played GOW on pc this year so I'm curious to see how the sequel fares. Too bad I won't get to play Ragnarok or Forbidden West any time soon.
2022 has been great for me with Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Stray, GOW and Spiderman remastered (pc).

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. I mean yeah, the main attraction of that game is the 4-man squad multiplayer section, but there are plenty of single player things available. All of the hunts can be done either single or multiplayer, with difficulty that scales depending on how many people are in the game, so if you really wanted to, there’s nothing stopping you from playing the entire thing by yourself. Also the expansion really improved on the base game, they didn’t take anything away and added a ton of stuff that addressed the annoyances of the base game.

Im a little surprised Steelrising didn't get a mention. Despite the stupid name, I preordered it to get my hands on the beta, and it really is amazing. I absolutely cannot wait for Lies of P, but Steelrising might be the best Souls Like Ive played outside of the FromSoft catalog. Thymesia was alright, the combat was fun, the rest of it was pretty threadbare, not the case with Steelrising. It brings a level of uniqueness in the mechanics and the story that separate it from any other bog standard "Souls Like." It's also a little easier, a little more accessible I think, which, great for a wider player base, I think some will find it not challenging enough. Overall though, this game came out of nowhere for me after the Gameranx Gamescom review video and quickly turned into my most anticipated game of the year. Well, after Atomic Heart, naturally. Cannot recommend Steelrising enough.
EDIT: It really seems like Steelrising is not getting a lot of coverage. There isnt a ton of content out there about it and I really think it's going to catch a lot of people off guard with just how good it is.

Thymesia was a huge letdown. Lies of P had me charmed until I got to see the available gameplay and find out it plays as a forgiveable version of DS1-DS2 in terms of difficulty but with weapon crafting and, as a redeeming quality thus far, a kind of interesting weapon degradation system.
Steelrising has potential but could notice its in need of some polish on the animation and gameplay balance (e.g. Frost Damage is broken), but seems as the one with the most potential of the bunch.
And personally, in regards to Steelrising's (or Lies of P's) coverage: There's a general disatisfaction with soulslikes, because they're quickly becoming a dime in a dozen while most fail to make that formula work and/or to be unique enough to stand out on their own instead of near carbon copying one of the FS games. The consumer eventually is burntout from the fatigue. Add FS game being synonymous of contemporary high difficulty in a day and age were players mostly want casual entertainment and the demand of accesibility with no results turns into disdain.

@@diegosaez4885 could not agree more. With most of your post. I played through Thymesia, but I didn't love it. I did it because I had nothing else going on and it feels very empty from start to finish. As for difficulty and shameless copies, yea, most of them are substantially easier and bring very little uniqueness to the model. Mortal Shell was a standout. The hardening mechanic was loads of fun to mess around with but even that game got very easy after a few weapon upgrades. None of the 3 area bosses even killed me my first time through. Frost damage is pretty broken in Steelrising at the moment, I imagine it'll get fixed. Especially when compared to the near impossible task you'll have trying to light enemies on fire lol. I honestly think the animations are ok. There is, I "think", an intentional jankyness because we are dealing with non fluid automatons.
