You’re like a little kid full of excitement. Great video, lots of good information. Still trying to get more flight time in with my Neo, cold and windy here in Ontario Canada.🇨🇦
Thanks! Ontario is a tough place to fly in the winter, but it's great for the rest of the year. It's been pretty frigid in Jersey as well but I've been out there a lot braving the cold January weather. Be sure to check the channel later this week for more content on the new DJI Flip.
The Neo isn't very heavy and has lighter motors because of it. How does it do in wind? I'm on the opposite side of the lake and wind is a very big factor for me. In the middle of summer, I have to wait until dusk before the wind dies down.
@@kodak_jack The new DJI Flip is able to handle a level 5 wind and because of its size it should be more stable than the Neo. It really comes down to 3 things, mass of the aircraft, motor power and the control esc that drive the motors. All three of these are larger and more powerful than the ones in the Neo. Honestly, when it's unfolded it's larger than the Mini 4 Pro and from the few flights I've taken with it, I was impressed.
@@timothyfrederickchurch81Don't be so quick to criticise the Neo, as currently the Neo tracks anything that moves, the Flip currently can only track people. Should you be in a tight area the Neo with no obstacle avoidance will just try and get through many times it can clip objects and carry on, the Flip has a sensor but its not avoidance it just stops, so instead of clipping that object it will just stop! The battery life for the size of the battery is very poor, if you compare it to say the Mini 4 pro the mini 4 pro has a 2590mah battery and gets around 28 minutes, while the Flip with its 3110mah gets around 24 minutes. And $200 vs $450? Big difference in price! Pretty sure the Neo is much more robust.
Thanks for the post and it is a really cool drone and I'm still trying to figure out where it fits. It seems like it's somewhere in between the Neo and the Mini 4 Pro. I'm still testing and comparing them so stay tuned for a few more clips this week.
Thanks Rick! Steve, Captain Drone, gave us a great overview of performance. The Flip does not do well in high or gusting winds. It is very noisy. On the good side, the price is reasonable. It has many cool features and a great camera. But, the fly more is sold out! Thanks again for your presentation.
Hello Rick, great presentation like always👌👍👏👊I sold my Neo and already bought the Flip. This are the points that I really like on this drone comparing it the Neo: 1. Unique quick unfolding and folding system, 2. Better camera, 3. Less Noisy, 4. Better wind resistance, 5. More batterylife, 6. The quick auto start and 7. When a bird attacks it the drone probably will not crash and keep flying due to the closed propguards. I really love it already. Will fly it in the weekend. I have the Fly more combo so plenty of juice😀🇳🇱
Great video, Rick. The one drawback I heard with the Flip is that it doesn't offer much drone storage for photos/videos. You need to have a mini card to store your files.
Yep, they didn't add any storage internally and it relies on an SD card to store the media. It's not a big deal since you can find a Sandisk 64gb card for about $14 with plenty of space for your content. Stay tuned for a few more clips this week.
Hey Rick great video do you know or are you perhaps in the know when my air 3s come from dji when i ordered it 2 months ago [ I'm aware of customs issue]
2 months is way too long for DJI. Try to verify the website you bought it from and make sure it was an authentic website. Scamers make fake websites that look real trying to get people to make a purchase and never ship anything. Happened to me once
It looks a little odd when it's folded but transforms into a "regular" drone when open. I do like the new prop cages and the close focus feature is a real winner for me. Be sure to stop back this week for more content on the DJI Flip once I've had a chance to fly it a bit.
If it will be your first drone, I would suggest saving a bit more and get a Mini 4 Pro. You'll get a lot more drone for the difference in price over the Flip.
@@DarR1299 I'm still trying to figure out where it fits into the product line. It's really close to the Mini 4 Pro. Same sensor and video capabilities, same O4 transmission tech and about the same flight time 31 vs 34 for the Mini 4 Pro. The only advantage the Mini 4 Pro has is the 360 obstacle avoidance and the APAS. The advantage to the new Flip is that it also has the "selfie" drone feature as well as the close focus. It really depends on what you want to do with it.
I think DJI designers and marketing have missed the mark with the Flip, they should created a drone similar to the Neo but maxing out the camera size, max out the weight to improve battery life, and have a gimbal that can be stabilised or locked horizontal or vertical with a clip on bracket for strength against minor impacts if needed. The Flip is too thick when folded and does not have the potential to move forward to assisted GPS / Manual FPV, which is something that would make it a drone that would suit most situations. I'm sorry I won't be buying one. I have the Mini 2 and the Neo with Goggles N3, Motion Controller 3 and FPV controller and although the video quality is not as good on the Neo I will have to stick with that until a sub 250g version of the Neo is released.
I agree that it's a novel drone but I do like it as a selfie drone. The Neo is great for portability and quick shots but the Flip is much better and has an improved close focus, which is essential for "selfie" clips in close. It does have crash avoidance in front and down so I'm not so worried about hitting something. I'm not sure if they'll add the FPV function with the N3 goggles. I asked them directly last week about the Mini 4 Pro and this one and just got a smile as an answer. I'll post a clip if anything changes.
Its not avoidance, it's just brakes. So could end up worse than the Neo as they Neo may clip objects and carry on while the Flip will just stop. The Flip currently only supports human tracking. And that battery life is poor! How can a drone with a 3110mah perform worse than the Mini 3/4 pro with a smaller 2590mah battery?!
@@DronevalleyI was going to buy it especially to use with my n3 goggles and motion controller 3 but I hear they don't work together unless there's a firmware update to use as fpv with goggles and motion controller
@@gregb1599 Greg, the Mini 4 Pro does have better avoidance and a 360 degree detection. The real big advantage is the APAS on the Mini 4 Pro, which is amazing and gives it the ability to actually fly through complex environments. It really depends on what you want to do with the drone. The Flip is better for "selfie" type flying and the Mini 4 Pro is better for general, landscape flying.
@@realstreetuk My first question to DJI last week was about the goggles for both the Flip, Mini 4 Pro and Air 3S and they wouldn't commit. To me, it should be an easy firmware update since they're all running O4 but it's more of a marketing decision than a technical one.
We'll be waiting for your flight review. Sounds a little too gimmicky for that big price. In many cases, wind is a factor, so I would be interested to see how it fairs in wind.
Love your enthusiasm and delivery thereof. About the Flip...Meh I think, for only C$300 more, I would choose the Mini 4 Pro Fly More Pkg at Costco Canada. If I had a larger drone such as an Air 3S (which I have), I would still choose the Neo over the Flip because of the price difference.
I think the Flip has a lot of potential but I agree that the Mini 4 Pro is still the best drone for the price. I hope DJI expands the features of the Flip in a future release! It seems like it fits right in between the Mini 4 Pro and the Neo. Stay tuned for a few more clips this week.
The drone turns on while you open the arms. So the gimbal motors trying to calibrate the camera while clamped in the protector. I'm not so excited about that.
Yep, but you should always remove the gimbal lock before opening the drone so it won't be an issue. I think its a clever tweak to the drone and I hope they continue to add that to future drones. Thanks for the post.
@@Dronevalley I don't see that I would want the gimbal flopping around while I'm unfolding it or doing any kind of physical manipulations. Too many chances for causing damage.
@@kodak_jack I understand that it's a new way of doing things but I think it's creative and they will be carrying it forward on other new drones. I did mention to them that they should provide a choice and allow us to turn it off if we choose through the DJI Fly app so we'll see if that happens. If it does I will post a clip on the channel about the change.
I prefer a power button, I don't like it powering up as soon as you open the props. as the operator, I want to be in full control at all times, as part of my safety protocols. I don't think this drone is for me - I think I'll stick with the mavic series and the Avata
I agree that it's a new feature that will take some time to get used to. I did ask them last week if they could add the option to turn the feature off through the app for folks that just don't like it so we'll see if that happens.
It's as stable as the larger Air 3 and can handle a level 5 wind. No worries about flying this drone in almost any conditions. The Neo is smaller and has a challenge on wind days but this one is stable and the 3-axis gimbal helps to smooth out the footage.

I'm so looking forward to this review ... Your reviews are great ... The Flip looks interesting...
Thank you Drone Valley. :)
You are very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I think its a cool addition to the fleet. Stay tuned for some flight demos this week.
