Lfc has had some of the best strikers and Keano is amongst them. That stunner at Arsenal (in 2008) proves that and I wish he had some more time with us. Love Robbie Keane, YNWA!
I remember Robbie playing for St. Aidans in Tallaght in the early nineties he was in the class below me always knew he was going to be world class.. fair play Robbie

Rafa should explain his handling of Robbie. As a fan we instantly took Robbie to our hearts and were willing him on in every game. He should have had a longer career at Anfield. Adored wherever he played though. Fan favourite. Not a bad singer either. I heard him in Lillies in the early 2000's. He could have joined Boyzone or Westlife!
Gerrard did say in an interview there was a problem there terrible decision to let him go I January.
A decision that may well have cost us the league that year

Robbie is the most underrated player in the history of the league. If his name was Keanovic or Keanoberg he would get way more credit with the tastemakers.
Top podcast Robbie I'm an 🦉 myself but growing up born 1973 I remember Liverpool and all the greats they had ..the style Europeen cup nights cheering Liverpool on as an English kid ...those days are gone now 😢..but you can't take memory's away ...I was Kenny Daglish in the playground and sometimes souness 😂😂

I remember being frustrated as to how he kept coming SO DEEP into midfield when playing for us. No wonder he didn’t score as many as he is capable of. Legend for Ireland, top player
Great player! The timing of his departure at Liverpool was so odd. He was starting to get into great form and was looking more and more comfortable with every game that went by. Rafa was a bit odd but he will always be a legend for winning #5.
Rafa decision to sell robbie cost us the league in 09 ..torres was injured and we had to rely on david ngog
We had more chance of turning them draws into wins with robbie still at the club

Big time one of rafas worst decisions quality is quality and despite his average start and without torres we were still in with a great chance ..
It's also a fact that Keane had a good run in the middle of October November that coincided with Rafa being inhospital ..
First game back against Newcastle I remember he dropped Keane after Keane had scored in a few games while he was away .
Liverpool beat Newcastle comfortably that day but I feared what the decision to drop Keane would do .
Next game was an fa cup game Keane was back snaching at chances

Great player, just never had the opportunity to form what could have been a formidable partnership with Torres. For me he was always trying to perform to make sure he was on the team sheet for the next game. Rafa never really gave him the space to relax. Always gave 110%. Solid bloke. Even better player.

What a great player Robbie was, he was treated so poorly at Liverpool by Rafa.
Yeah I love Rafa but towards the end of his time he made some really stupid decisions. Wanting Barry instead of Alonso, getting rid of Keane in January when the club was short of strikers, the facts speech, his last two transfer windows in general. So frustrating.

@Michael Keegan Exactly, Alonso hadn't been playing particularly well. Then turned it on in the season before he left for Real Madrid.

It is of my opinion that if Rafa didn't have such a bee in his bonnet with Keane and kept him, we'd have won the title that season. Class player who deserved a lot better from LFC.

These podcasts are superb. I'm Irish, and love Robbie Keane. tbh, I think his best years were behind him when he signed for Liverpool, due to him breaking on to the scene at such a young age. I wish Liverpool would have signed him 8 years earlier.

Robbie Keane was one of the players I wanted us to sign for years, and when we did it just didn't work out for him. It's such a shame. He was a fantastic player and given more games and a longer spell I think he could have been great for us.

I personally believe Rafa didn't get the best out of Keano or didn't play him in the right position. Keano was a brilliant for all the other clubs he played at. So the responsibility lies at the hands of Rafa, to why the Keano didn't become a Anfield legend.
always found robbie being sold very strange at the time. Liverpool drew alot of games in 08/09 and only lost 2 but when torres wasn't fit our options were ngog and elzhar i believe who all due respect to those lads, werent good enough. Torres missed alot of football that season and we definitely could have used robbie off the bench like utd did with macheda, tevez etc. may of been the difference.

Robbie was a quality player and it would and should of worked with Torres but he just wasn't for Benitez... At long last we have a future star striker in Evan Fergusson, We haven't had a decent forward since Robbie.. Very unlucky at Inter cause Lippi wanted him but then went to Juve only few weeks after Robbie arrived.. When he scored that goal against Germany in the 2002 world cup cemented his legacy, That WC still annoys me cause we really missed a big chance of going far at least the semis, We should of beaten Spain in normal time but all ifs and buts now..
Robbie Keane was a fantastic player who scored goals everywhere he played but he was bought by the board and Rafa didn't want him
Always rated Robbie Keane and was over the moon when Liverpool signed him. Travesty that he didn’t get longer because he could have score a bucket load for us.

I’m sure Benitez got rid as he tried a flick instead of an easy finish against atletico madrid (away goal) and we ended up losing over 2 legs. Benitez probably thought it was unprofessional and couldn’t accept
I remember this as being the moment he gave up on him too, camera went to Rafa and he looked disgusted. He also publicly gave up on Jan Arne Riise after an expensive error.
Rafa ruined him .. was never same player
Rafa played the European style of football which is why we was so deadly in the CL
