The most important thing about PTSD: They talk, you SIMPLY LISTEN...TO THE END. No solutions, no suggestions. The 1st most important part is healing id's listening to their whole story.
this scene really makes me cry, I remember the first time I saw it, I started to cry and cry and I tried to cover my eyes so nobody saw me crying but it was impossible. If you thought Adam Sandler is a comdian, you're all wrong. He's a great actor. This is the kind of movie I prefer to see alone in my bedroom and all the lights off. Jesus man.
I lost my fiance and her brother in a car accident in 2005. I was lost for almost 12 years without her. The way Sandler performed a man overcome with grief is heartbreaking but brilliantly executed.
"sleep tonight again in your arms" the symbolism of that song is the way Charlie feels for Johnson. The friend he can feel with and open up to. I love how this movie ends with Johnsonn helping Charlie start again the way he needs and not trying to fit into a social norm
As someone who lost an amazing wife in a horrible accident i couldn't even finish watching this scene the first time I saw it...he was so immersed in the scene it breaks me down everytime i see it!!!
Sandler is amazing in this, but the preformance of Bruce Springsteen in the headphones is simply wonderfull, Whoever deiced to include that song in this scene is a genius
So brilliant. How Adam Sandler didn't even get nominated, let alone win an Oscar for this role is beyond me. Having lost one of my closest friends on the first plane, it is especially significant, yet well over 22 years after the event, watching his performance, it is ridiculous to me that Daniel Day Lewis won and Sandler wasn't nominated.
Typically, yes, but there are exceptions; Moonlight, Boyhood. This is one that should have been nominated. I think Adam Sandler's sophomoric past films are far more likely the reason, however. Which is unfortunate. When he is in serious roles, he is truly remarkable.
This was so brilliant and well casted it's gotta be somewhere in my Top 20 movies of all time.Just for the importance and near perfection of EVERYTHING in this movie.I was even at the water park where they filmed that pretty crappy movie Grown Ups.but I saw Adam Sandler a bunch of times and when he was carrying his baby girl, I had to say "Is that your daughter? She's beautiful...and by the way Reign Over Me is one of my favorite movies" and he looked surprised and said "aw hey thanks man!"
Lemony Snickett - 'If you have ever lost somebody very important to you, then you already know how it feels. If you haven't, you couldn't possibly imagine.'
Such a varied actor. You know those are the best kinds of actor when they can make you laugh and cry as two completely different characters. So impressive.
It's amazing when he turns and acknowledges that she's been listening the whole time. He needed his friend to talk to, but he knew she was listening the whole time
I cried before when i watched this long before I met my wife. I feel it even more now that I have her, my daughter, dogs and cat. (All female pets). This cuts deep. I don’t know what I would do without them. It’s heart wrenching just to slightly imagine my life without them. They’re all I got.
What makes this movie hurt so much is that this isn't fictional. This happened to someone, there are still so many people whose entire lives are shaped by what happened on September 11 while the rest of the world who weren't parsonally impacted are able to move on so much easier. When he says "I felt them burning" it makes my stomach drop and my heart sink every time. Adam Sandler's delivery of this monologue and the scene when he's walking through his house does an amazing job selling the pain the character's in, it makes me feel like this is the only way someone COULD live after something so horrific, puts you right in the character's headspace
Why they didn't give Adam at least a nomination for Best Actor I'll never understand. Adam played the part to perfection. I know. This happened to my husband and I over 30 years ago and we relive that scene every day. It never goes away but times when we are relieved for a bit, just like in the movie, helps soothe our pain somewhat and we are grateful for it. Adam, we owe you.
Got this on DVD ,15 years later ,Adam Sandler did well here in a Dramatic role here ,First time I watched this in 2007 i was like Wow when he was cast in this Drama about a man who has lost everything ,Well done to him for this ,Wonder if he got an Oscar for his performance. This had me in Tears😪🥺
funny how i relate to this movie, the day my wife left me and our 2 kids. she got 50 50, but it was still brutal. i find it interesting she was shacked back up months later with a dude 20 years younger. I was buried. This really pinched a nerve. no one cares about good guys anymore. we are always the bad guys that hurt most.
i watched this movie when i was 14 and am a guy who pisses himself laughing at saw n stuff but this scene made me weep like like a little girl with a skinned knee
@xyPERSON I agree, He can definately pull off roles like this, but he knows what he really wants to do is comedy, that's his thing. Why do you think his only serious roles were this and Punch Drunk Love?
@mnaz21 i think its more because its adam sandler and were use to him being all cheery and stuff and seeing him break down like that gets everybody going
@stillmakinitinlife93 Sandler needs more serious roles like this instead of those same over-the-top, insanely stupid roles that have basically defined his career.
Sandler deserved an Oscar for this.
Absolutely agree
Just looked it up, there was some tough competition in 2007. Whitaker, DiCaprio, AND Peter friggin' O'Toole were up for best actor.
I am someone with PTSD. I relate to Charlie in this movie in many ways. This is definitely one of Sandler's greatest works, and it is underrated.
I share this with everyone I can...it's not underrated at all. Hope you find your peace.
i also suffer the same. and i understand the pain your going through.
I’ve been through more shit than you can imagine
Same here. ❤
Ditto
"i saw it. i saw it and i felt it at the same time." that line gets me every time. incredible performance.
When he says "the plane from Boston" gets me EVERY time!!
THIS is what I call acting. I love how he can go from comedy to truly making viewers cry in a really serious role.

My condolences, I hope you’re holding up okay after all this time, stay strong bro! Remember she’ll be with you always, in heart & spirit 🙏🏼
I lost a girlfriend to leukemia 8 years ago - it gets easier but it's incredibly sad 😭

I love how the music plays through his headphones plays while Charlie tells Alan about his family.
It's the only way he can open up.
@@Teeveepicksures Yea
I cried when I saw this in the theater, this clip still gets me 😢💔

Alan reading a Captain America comic book, who knew Don Cheadle would be part of his universe?
He even disliked Falcon before Falcon crippled him. Ha
I heard about this movie way to late. He really deserved more recognition for this role. Incredible.

Agreed❤

oscars are a popularity contest, if the movie doesn't sell past a certain treshold of money then they won't even nominate it

His Best performance so far...I love this movie I cry every time
The waiting room scene is without a doubt one of the most heart breaking scenes ive ever seen
THAT AND the courtroom scene, where Sandler looses his mind!!! 😭
Oscar worthy performance 😢❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Talk about heart-wrenching, especially if you're a parent. I had to pause the video half way through this scence to recompose myself.

omg i want to hug him; my heart breaks!!
I can't believe I spent so much of my life not watching this movie.
Its takes real acting ability to potray someone like Adam is portraying. This shows he is a real good actor
I cried in this scene and I feel like I always will because this is such a sad scene.
Adam Sandler was amazing in this film he truly deserved an Oscar for this!!!
most underated Adam Sandler's movie, and it is a jewel.
Why in the hell didn't Adam win an Oscar for this ?!?!?!
2007 had a lot of really great movies.
Such a varied actor. You know those are the best kinds of actor when they can make you laugh and cry as two completely different characters. So impressive.
I saw this a few years ago and remember being BLOWN AWAY by Adam Sandler. This is really good acting.
This sequence always gets to me very deeply when I watch it. Adam Sandler was simply mesmerizing in this movie!!
6:35 the look on Don Cheadle’s face , it just shows how he understands the pain Adam Sandler is in
It's amazing when he turns and acknowledges that she's been listening the whole time. He needed his friend to talk to, but he knew she was listening the whole time
This is probably the only movie other than one about a dog that made me cry. I still do as many times as I’ve seen it.
Whenever I see him act I can feel the hollowness of heartbreak and grief in my chest
some of the best actors we have now started as comedians, if you can make someone laugh you can do anything!!
He should have won an oscar for his performance in this movie amazing

I've seen hundreds of movies but I've only actually cried at this one. so sad. But good.
I'm a 16 year old guy and this made me cry, Adam sandler is a true legend, I'm going to watch this movie again tonight.
hope you're still doing you at 29!!!

I'll say it again, his best film.
He does GREAT straight acting!!!
Understanding his character, he doesn't like to remember, its something hard to do, great acting describing what alot of folks went through
Daniel Day Lewis. A competitor has entered the building.
They ADORED me Johnson. Man O’ Man.
BRAVO!!!!
Deep, Emotional, and very very Intimate. Adam sir, this is your best work!!
God damn onions. Always make me cry.

The realest Sandler movie.
The first time I saw this movie, I was in complete disbelief that Adam Sandler could do this
How’d he not get an Oscar

best part of the movie.... thanks!
"I dont like remembering" My life story
Great movie!!!
I lost my mind so I can relate to this I feel like I'm bored of life and already dead....I'm only alive because I numb myself with alcohol
Very touching, and remembering
"I saw it and I felt it at the same time"... is what she said
i watched this movie when i was 14 and am a guy who pisses himself laughing at saw n stuff but this scene made me weep like like a little girl with a skinned knee
It's a shame the academy snubs comedic actors. Jim Carrey and Adam have both been robbed in my opinion.
good movie
Holy crap… Rhodey reading The Avengers! 😂
im a 18 year old man and everytime i see this i cry my eyes out till i cant cry no more it one of my fav scenes in a movie
drive all night-bruce springsteen
@stillmakinitinlife93 that scene alone made my eye water up
Great ! CB
Adam Sandlers best performance...
@xyPERSON I agree, He can definately pull off roles like this, but he knows what he really wants to do is comedy, that's his thing. Why do you think his only serious roles were this and Punch Drunk Love?
I wouldnt have the strength to try and make him re-live such a heartbreaking event. I would be a shit therapist for sure.
@mnaz21 i think its more because its adam sandler and were use to him being all cheery and stuff and seeing him break down like that gets everybody going
Its masterful acting, but I just can't shake how when he gets that sideways face he's back to Satan's misfit son.
@CHETxxxLEMON He wasn't even nominated....I wish he was though, he was brilliant
@nationalisedmexican oh you got me
Holy shit
Probably because it represents real events
every1outscape hahahha i thought the same exact thing.
This movie brings back the pain of 9/11 for me every time. Such horror. So many lives destroyed.
what song is this? (about 3 minutes)
Bruce Springsteen “Drive All Night”.
@stillmakinitinlife93 Sandler needs more serious roles like this instead of those same over-the-top, insanely stupid roles that have basically defined his career.
@every1outscape I was thinking the same thing...lol...I thought a Dylan bio pic...lol
@stillmakinitinlife93 eye's not eye.
@IIAdidasII if movies can't stir up an emotional reaction in you then a feel sorry for you mate
most people think adam sandler is some crappy romcom actor...my reply: watch this one scene and shut the hell up
@StevieTeeVee92 lol
bruce springsteen
@every1outscape Well Jews do share a common look
I need to watch something funny now.
The movie itself was godawful but adam sandlers performance was astounding.
Thanks for u and ur crappy opinion 🎉🎉🎉
@thomastoal2892 the acting does a lot to carry it but the story itself is pretty preachy and contrived. I stand by what I said.
Good for u keep standing but 🤐
@@thomastoal2892 who talks like this 😆 are you butthurt over an opinion of a movie?
@@FraulienNationalist 😂
See he’s better at emotional roles….
It's a shame Adam Sandler wastes his good acting chops with the really unfunny shitty movies he does.
Well Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore weren’t so bad
what an awful movie
What an awful comment stfu 😂
