Don't know if your familiar with the dyatlov pass and the khamar daban hiker tragedies but they are very similar both from Russia the dyatlov pass was no survivors but the khamar daban incident one girl survived and she won't talk of it again she's still alive and when found and saved by kayakers and put in hospital she told what happened how they all but her went insane from possibly a soup they made from mushrooms and other plants they got. From the mountains she didn't eat the soup and tells of her friends biting and chewing the shrubs and dirt banging their heads on the ground on hands and knees and pulling up small trees and things. Very very similar to your story ......check them out . Isn't Russia along the same geographic lines and similar to Alaskan climate and animals and plants? Could be the answers to the stories.

Thanks for providing a common sense, non-paranormal, non-cryptid possible explanation for some of these sightings. If anyone cares about the actual science of proving Bigfoot is real, you have to apply these "litmus tests" of reality to every single story and encounter tale. Without this process it makes a mockery of research and people that actually do care about whether this thing is real or not and do not secretly consider it a joke. A large number of people who claim they "believe in Bigfoot" don't do this at all and then get angry if you offer a common sense explanation. Some of those are the worst.

@@NathanTarantlawriter Thank you very much, I try so hard to do a good job. And I couldn't agree more, it's a serious problem and I'm hoping a more scientific viewpoint - and manner of discussing this topic - will take hold over the next few years. The paranormal viewpoints can be understandable on a surface level, but they don't hold up and only make people want to toss the topic of Bigfoot aside and not take it seriously.
Sometimes, I almost wonder if there is a conspiracy to cover-up the existence of Bigfoot, but it's done by those who love paradolia and make all sorts of "woo-woo" claims in an effort to make science leave the topic alone. It's hard not to wonder some days lol!
I think there's a lot of very genuine and sincere people who promote those theories, but I also think there are quite a few people who, at the very least, think it's a joke and like manipulating people. I hope I'm wrong about that last one.
Anyway, thank you for the kind words, I appreciate them!

One thing that catches my attention from the story was the behavior of the compass. Perhaps that area has strange magnetic fields, which, if you listen to accounts of the paranormal, can give that eerie type of feeling or like you’re being watched. It could be a combination of things, magnetic fields, mold, etc. Plus, imagine if that’s true and you were a stranded Chinese shipwreck survivor and you’re being affected by these environmental things for who knows how long…could explain their odd behavior, if that’s what it was that the one man saw.

They said that their compass would point all over. Maybe the environment messed with their reasoning. Even the one that wrote the story, when he went with the Norwegian man, thought that they had only spent the night there but the other guy said that they were there for two weeks. Somebody in the town should've known how long they were actually gone. Sounds like a pretty strange place. In the bermuda triangle. Don't they sometimes have compass trouble?

The point of creatures like gorillas retaining thick fur is to protect the skin surface from wounds. Humans wear clothes to compensate for the lack of natural fur. Humans have been wearing animal skins including from goats for thousands of years. So the explanation given would make sense. There have been more recent cases of campers in remote areas suddenly exhibiting bizarre behavior, there was one from Russia for instance, put down the effects of poisons or hallucinogens in the environment. So again I think the explanation offered would make perfect sense.

The theory of the ship wrecked Chinese doesn't make sense to me. If these prospectors were leaving tents and supplies, hungry humans would have taken advantage of such resources.
MRSA is a relatively new development, not one of the late 1800's. Humans are smart. There was mention of settlers in the area.
Tjose hungry Chinese would have gone to the homesteads for help.
As town was only several days journey, they would have followed the streams to settlements.
They would have stuck closer to shore awaiting another ship and using the shore for seafood and firewood.
    I just don't see it.

Great take on the story. I talked to a geologist about the story years ago. His theory was that arsenic in the water may be the culprit. In Southeast Alaska mineral rich areas contain arsenic. After hearing the stories the men could have been primed to the halutions. The exception would be the trapper and his dog. Several people I know in that area have reported to have seen something resembling big foot.

Great video; I had heard about this book before (and the basic outline of the story), but was not familiar with the shipwrecked Chinese goat-herder theory. It makes sense, especially if it were confirmed that the shipwreck happened. This Chinese goat-herders don't necessarily negate sasquaches in the area, especially with the report that mentioned the footprint with the mid-tarsal break (which doubtful would have been a detail turn-of-the-century gold panners would have known about). Thanks for taking the time to make the video!

🇬🇧 NB, this is a long comment so don't read it you hate long ones, don't complain
This certainly was an intriguing case story.
It seems John had some definite fixation about this area he describes as Devils Country.
Whatever was or was not there, it seems John wasn't directly affected somehow which is also odd, seeing as every single person who went with him or to those he directed to this place, were in some way, shape or form adversely affected.
Your synopsis at the end was very interesting!
Re; the Chinese immigrants, but in those times, many Chinese were brought in all over the States to work railroads, factories, Canneries, so I'm sure travellers must have seen plenty of Chinese folk.
As I thought about this mysterious tale, I thought about the effects of poisons, naturally occuring, but maybe the Chinese had some Opium & upon burning the Opium resin, could fumes have had an effect on the Prospectors?
What if the Chinese ( or other) were working there themselves, finding Gold & wanting it to stay secret?
By dressing up & making strange noises, causing hallucinatory fumes to affect infiltrators &
Setting up other novel ways of scaring off interlopers?
We know how clever the Chinese were in creating illusionary
Spec f/x, smoke & mirrors quite literally.
Maybe they made scary masks, used resins dyed red & smeared on their skin & rubbed on offensive smelling plants etc to look as repulsive as possible as if covered in sores & pustules?
If they did, well then, it worked!
If the Chinese or whoever, had discovered a rich seam of gold or some other precious metals, & they',d set up a good mining system, they wouldn't want to share.
Best deterrent would be to scare, impressionable & superstitious prospectors off, and STAY off.
I remember reading early explorers like Marco Polo, describing the most amazing inventions by the Chinese.
They had a vast knowledge of pharmaceutical medications & preparations & sly secretive ways to induce hallucinations & their firework displays of sky dragons were marvelled at by Europeans.
I think the answer to this story is somewhere along these lines.
I think a veritable gold mine was discovered & those who had it, had no intention of sharing
After repeated ( mainly by John...lol)
    Attempts to prospect
    A way was needed to
Divert & scare off, permanently, any prospectors so they upped the ante & scared off everyone.
Btw, the medieval Chinese had discovered that certain sounds or frequencies produced a range of feelings in people
There is one frequency ( discovered recently that produces fear in people,) it's a low khz one & scientists think something produces this natural
Khz & causes people to feel fear, being watched, hearing auditory hallucinations & seeing " ghosts"
Anyway, I've rambled on enough, does anyone else think my theory may be feasible?
Thank you for this video, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Peace 🇬🇧🙋

I'm wanting to ask a question, in the hopes that perhaps you or one of your viewers had heard this story. I've been trying to find it without success for years now.
A man tells a story of when he was a boy, going to visit his grandma who lived in a remote cabin. One day out looking for berries he explores beyond his grandma's directives and finds a small grave/cemetery. He is then assumed to have been followed back to his Grandma's house by a bigfoot type creature. His Grandma is aware of this creatures existence. She yells out at the creature about the boy not being whom the creature thinks him to be (his deceased uncle from memory)
Any leads to finding this story would be appreciated. 🤩

Wow! I read a book years ago. I can't recall title or author, but, I have remembered this from it. "In Canada and Alaska ther are still vast areas of unexplored wilderness, where nameless men by nameless rivers wander, and in strange valleys die strange deaths alone"

That's quite the quote! I think I found it: "In Canada and Alaska there are still large expanses of virgin country
Where nameless men by the nameless rivers wander and in strange valleys die
strange deaths alone." That was in “Wilderness” from A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There, Oxford
University Press, 1949, written by Aldo Leopold.
I also found "Ballads of a Cheechako by Robert W. Service To the Man of the High North" which said: "The nameless men who nameless rivers travel, And in strange valleys greet strange deaths alone" written in 1909.

Two things. Firstly; this link takes you to a story that, if you enjoyed this, might be up your alley ( ua-cam.com/video/d6iXxmCA-zM/v-deo.html ). It's about Wolverines, written by Russell Annabel. He was praised by Ernest Hemingway as the best outdoor writer. I think you'd like it. I uploaded it to my other channel "Jep's Outdoor Adventures"
And if anyone wants me to read their story, (fyi, it must be real!) please send it to idahobigfootchannel@gmail.com or message me on my Instagram page "idaho_bigfoot": instagram.com/idaho_bigfoot/

Strong magnetic fields can affect the brain, often inducing feelings of dread and paranoia. If these guys were sleeping on the ground their heads could have been bathing in such a field for hours. Combine that with adding the wrong kind of mushroom the their diet (because they're sick of repetitive meals)*, and the temporary insanity they experienced could be explained.

Interestingly you mentioned quartz, iron ore and salt water.
One of Teslas concepts for free energy used a system of tunnels in series that would separate salt water. The salt particles in h20 cause electrons to jump through a conductive surface. The water flows through varying series of piping. Which can also happen with ground water that runs through granite. This may result in a direct electrical current.
Massive amounts of iron ore under pressure(earths weight) would result in a large magnetic field
Quarts has a unique property in that it is piezoelectric.
Piezoelectric means electricity resulting from pressure and latent heat. All 3 forms of energy could have created strong radiant fields that may result have resulted in a temporary altered state or psychosis.
    Just a thought.

I listened to the story again, and I picked out another detail. Another word mentioned often in the story was mold. It is now believed that the witches of Salem that had fits in front of the puritan courts actually had ergot poisoning. It could be possible that some type of mold was ingested resulting in ergot poisoning, or other toxin ingestion in that area resulting in a temporary psychosis.
A great mentor once taught me while reading personal accounts or testimonies of people to first focus on words of substance that are mentioned the most, to try to pick out themes before reading the content.

Evidently that part of Alaska is like many places on Earth ,Baciu forest ,Skinwalker Ranch , Black Mountain in Australia ,countless others which seem to be places ,inhabited by the Demonic and they dont want humans there for various reasons [have my own opinion on why ] I dont believe it was Ergot or moss or anything like that but possession ,I have felt that menacing ,creepiness and terror before ,many times along with weird things happening ,and pressure ,unbelievable pressure from inimical entities ,I believe the ''Devils'' were the ship wrecked Chinese who were desperate of course to return to civilization ,but not goat skins as you would need a rifle and i doubt they were armed or unlikely knew how to use a rifle ,maybe skins [goat or Deer etc]that were on board the shipwreck ,good video ,heard that story before but good to hear again !

Thank you for watching, and stopping by. I know what you're talking about. I have felt that presence - deep overwhelming malevolence that makes the room feel heavy and causes a primal panic to overwhelm you. I fully believe that demonic beings exist, and I can see where you're coming from with this. It could very well be. Part of the reason why I don't discuss dogmen much is because I don't think they can exist biologically, and given how people claim they felt when they saw one... I think they are demonic in origin.
With that being said, you could be right about a dogman -type entity killing that man. Messing with people before hurting them would align in my eyes. I like to explain everything in a more biological/scientific manner, but I'm open to other possibilities.
Just my two cents! Thanks again, and I hope you have a good rest of your day!

That's ridiculous. If men had the wherewithal to emigrate then they would be able to find their way to civilization even just by following prospectors. It's also not true that people had not experienced other cultures in 1900.

Chinese immigrants could also explain the one in the boat yelling at the prospector as he rowed away. A stranded immigrant could have made it to the boat first and once in would not get out. And they kept shouting at the guy rowing away to turn back and get the others, but he didn't understand Chinese.

I always thought the original story was BS and Charlie just double backed or went back to the states to get family for the “outfit.” Regardless, I always assumed he lied and the point was to keep the find for himself. I for my part have a hard time trusting the motives of random gold prospectors from the world over who were desperate or desirous enough to make the long journey to Alaska for riches. For a man to believe in something like “devils” there, is just madness yet that has to be what was at the back of their minds when they actually were at the strike and going to start mining. They let “shaking bushes” scare them off of enough money to live forever on!?! Alaskan gold prospectors? No. They either found nothing and this is just a tall tale about the riches that could have been or it’s some mix of lying prospectors doubling back along filtered through scared superstitious people. My last question would be is that region fully developed today? If so has there ever been any archeological finds in the area or evidence of those ship wrecked people? If it hasn’t ever been settled, let’s go get the gold lolol

    • @idahobigfootyoutubechannel

It's still a very wild area to this day from what I gather, so you'll have to work for it lol! That's an interesting thought though, thank you for sharing. Personally, I believe it's a legit story. The reason I say that is because if they felt like he (Charlie) was lying in any way, I highly doubt they would have covered it up. You just don't do that, especially to your business partners. I feel word would have gotten around if he was a slimebag, and they wouldn't have trusted him to go there all alone if that's the kind of character he was. Besides, Harry went back several times and never suspected that Charlie lied or came back to steal the gold for himself. If any serious mining was done, he probably would have figured that out.
And if they were all in on it, as far as I can tell, no rumors were spread and the family was well respected. I think if they were inclined to lie, word would have spread. I don't know, It's a nice thought at least.
And seeing bushes move can get your nerves on end, but the distinct feeling of something malevolent staring you down that hates you is a very different thing. I know, because I've felt it and hope I never do again.
Just my two cents. I would love to know for sure though!

If we take these men for their word, then it wasn't just "shaking bushes" that scared them off by itself. They were getting visits at night at their camp, etc. They had no idea how long it was going to take them to find enough gold to make it worth it to stay up there. It could have been weeks, months, or years of work up there just turn a profit, let alone find enough gold to be rich enough to live forever on. They already had a daunting task of travel to this remote area and worrying about survival in general, on top of needing to put in actual prospecting work. A few freaky bigfoot experiences would be enough to break anyone's will on top of all of that. I think that part of the story checks out.

Cool video. 'Happiness' is one of those relative words, meaning what makes one person happy, doesn't work for the next. I am a sane man who is happy, for I know (and practice) that I am not in control, shit happens, for a reason or not, so I I find happiness in the peace knowing that there ain't shit I can do about things I can't control.

Portlock Alaska seems to be the creepiest place.
Finding dead hunters bodies ripped apart would spook anyone that hunts in Alaska.
Maybe a grizzly, but one that rips a human apart and dumps their bodies by a river stream seems awfully dangerous and uncharacteristic of a grizzly bear attack.

I know monster quest or a similar show did an episode about Alaskan Devil monkeys. As far as I can remember they didn't even mention this account and only covered encounters in the last 40yrs or so & in some of the acounts they were talking to live surviving witnesses. Other accounts were of other ppl who mysteriously vanished I the same location as the surviving witnesses story. I'm nor sure what part of Alaska these happened in & if they were close to these locations.
The problem with ergot poisoning is the consistency of it happening over a lengthy period of time & many, many individuals. They were bringing & eating their own food each time. Never once mentioning foraging for food or hunting for mushrooms. So the chance that everyone over a 30yr period lost their mind & none of them being in same exact campground when it happened makes it implausible. I feel like the fact that there was no wildlife in a specific area is an important clue. Is it because this heard of meat eating monkeys have ravaged every living thing in the area? Or is it because there is indeed something pervasive in an area that would make a person or creature lose its mental faculties? Or cause its a stronghold of the fae or hidden ones who gave been claimed to easily play with ppl perception of reality in an attempt of getting them to leave their homestead? Very very interesting.
