Just a tip, I didnt need to restart my PC to take effect but this DID work for me. Also worth mentioning that windows troubleshooter is about as useful as a bent screwdriver because the first time it ran the trouble shooter it did something and didnt fix my issue but re prompted the screen asking my issue to which I reselected the issues and ran the troubleshooter again to which it spit me out to a different screen saying it fixed the problem. And surely it did. But only after the 2nd attempt of running the troubleshooter. So yes this worked but it was a little more complicated for me so maybe this comment might help someone. Cheers :)
Thanks, man! You probably just saved me from reinstalling windows 10. The second part of the solution is what did it for me. For some reason, PowerShell would not allow me to paste text, so I had to type it all out by hand, being careful of those odd spaces. But after the restart, that issue was solved as well. Two problems solved for free = like, comment and subscribe.
Bro to paste in powershell press windows+v ,it will open clipboard and then tap the text in clipboard you want to paste and it will automatically paste it.
This fixes the search application, but not the underlining problem which is a faulty system DLL installed by a recent Windows update. The only real fix to this problem is to uninstall (or rollback if not possible) specific updates that breaks some core system (such as Cortana which is, in W10, the core internal part of the search system even if you're not using it).
Hi, just wanted to let you know that rolling back updates did not solve the issue. However, the powershell command luckily did. Is there a way to repair/reinstall those files yourself?
@@soheil5710 The only way I have found is to do a full purge & reinstall Windows from scratch which comes with the ugly pain of having to reinstall everything afterward. (To do a full purge, you need to do a HDD or SSD format of the storage that has Windows installed which also means you'll have to reinstall all the software again even if you got them installed on a separate storage since Windows loose any reference or DLL or Register entries required by those software.) I did tried to even do a soft reinstall of Windows 10 (if you select "Keep Apps & Files" instead of formatting), but that keeps the faulty DLL which returns the problem. A clear install will only works if you're able to install a version AFTER the faulty update that breaks stuff. If your stuff broke with any update from the last 6 months or so, you might have to wait a while before doing a purge & reinstall as Windows might reinstall the same faulty update (in its chain of updates) anyway. If you know which update is at fault, you can look up if there's any major update afterward in Microsoft updates' list chart. If there's a major update, you'll usually have a clear install from that point if you download the latest Windows USB installer flash files.
@@LandonMartin-vn9rb For now, the only way I have found that fixes the problem is to create a new User, copy/paste from 1 C:\Users\[USER NAME] to the other the following folders : AppData, Download, Documents (and other folder with files you want to keep. Just a reminder that you got to set the folder settings to display hidden folder to see the AppData folder.) Then I deleted the original user account and the problem was fixed for the new user. The good part is that doing so (especially copying the AppData content from 1 to the other) allows you to keep about ~80% of the stuff you have previously installed. The remaining ~20% is stuff that couldn't be installed for all users and you got to install it back in. Just quick note: Check if the problem is still on with the new user first before copying/transferring/deleting anything. If the problem persists, your problem might be a different kind than mine.
Thank you! All of the methods were followed with an immediate restart and none except the last one worked. Admin Powershell with "get appxpack..." command did the trick. Now if only I could get windows to stop freezing while asleep
Thanks so much. I was really worried that I was infected with a weird virus or malaware that was causing this issue. It was a really annoying situation. So glad I found your video. You are a hero to many.
This was amazing and it worked. At first I didn't understand what you said about the description code. My fault. You meant that there is a code I can copy on the description area of this video. Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. You are doing a great job!
I was a little skeptical, as most of the time tutorials don't work for me. But this was a pleasant surprise! thank you, as I have been having this issue for about a weak and this fixed it instantly. God bless you!
oh my god thank you, ive been doing all this in regedit, i tried launching ctfmon, i was typing some commands in powershell and cmd, even tried rebuilding index, and the first one to restart wsearch helped. thank you so much!
For anyone like me who gets a full screen that isn't loading when clicking the Windows button when trying to access settings, simply right-click the button instead; the option for Settings will appear in the popup menu. These steps worked! Thanks!
@@Tricknology Much appreciated. My issue is whenever I update from Update Center, after restart it just boots into windows 10 and tells me to update to windows 11. Also Update assistant and iso file methods have failed. I hope there are some other ways or I have to clean install windows 11.
I can't believe a windows troubleshooter not only found a problem, but fixed it. Kind of hilarious i had such little trust in it that I came to youtube
thank you so much my search bar kept crashing and i thought restarting my pc would work but it didnt since i found this video it works now thank you so much!
It sadly did not work for me, Yesterday it worked fine but today its all broken, tried restarting it, tried the indexer all things in this video and things online but cant find a fix.
Finally after 3 months and trying all these and more fixes, this simple fix worked, Hurray!!!! Restart Windows Font Cache Service Sometimes, you can resolve Windows Search issues by restarting Windows Font Cache Service. To do this, follow these steps: Windows key+R, enter services.msc to open the Services console. In the right pane, right-click Windows Font Cache Service, and then select Stop. Try to search again. In the Services console, right-click Windows Font Cache Service, and then select Start or Restart.
My computer is so weird because I’m trying to fix some memory issues, and in order for me to fix the memory issue I have to search and type in command prompt and that’s impossible to do because every time I type something in the search bar it’ll just close on me. And then when I try to go to settings search bar and it’ll freeze up and it will close out and why is it when I try to fix one thing another problem is always occurring. That’s not normal now is it?
My search bar stopped working randomly after i got the fabled blue screen :(. Whatever happened caused my AMD drivers to be messed up so i did clean reinstallation of the amd drivers and then uninstalled a recent windows update which was the latest 21H update and that fixed it.
Also when I opened up settings just to look for Search, I didn’t even see that in the list all I saw was Cortana an Xbox along with some other elements that were showing. I tried typing in search in the settings search bar and that closed out on me too
Dud, things got diff on my pc.while doing the cmd step, around 53% my pc crashed and got a blue screen error and restarted again with diff blue screen error 3 more time, and at last restarted once more. And then on the booting screen, it started diagnosing pc and then started "resolving the disk error",it took sometime ,and then pc turned on and the error gone.😅
Thanks for this but unfortunately it hasn't worked for me. The search app stays on the screen for 2 seconds then disappears before I have a chance to type anything. I don't know why this and I can't find a solution anywhere!
i tried the first solution and it didn't resolve the issue. but then i went to the Processes tab in Task Manger (as admin) and found the Search process running. i stopped that process and the problem was immediately resolved, even without a reboot. i will have to test if the problem is fixed even after a reboot.
Once again the youtube tutorial with less than 100k views saves the day!
Thanks so much, man, my pc was like that for an hour, it was hell 💪
