  • In this English lesson I'll help you learn about unexpected things. Sometimes life is fairly routine and nothing happens out of the blue. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn or something unexpected happens. In this free English class we'll talk about some of those things.
In this lesson I'll help you learn English words and phrases like: freak storm, sprayed by a skunk, inheritance, black ice, and more!
I hope you enjoy this English lesson about unexpected things!
    Have a great day!
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

Hi Maria. Yes that's correct. It's "Somber" in American English, "Sombre" in British English. Not sure about Canadian English but they usually spell words in Canada the British way. The word originally comes from the French language "Sombre". Ofc it's pronounced differently in French.

Where roughly in Ontario are you from? Your accent is not indictive of of being broadly Canadian. One should not assume the colloquialisms within the videos are pertinent to the rest of Canada. This is a large country, and the expressions and word variants (definitions) vary widely from region to region. Newfoundland slang is unintelligible in in Vancouver except for the expat. Judging from you accent, I would guess that you are from the southern Ontario regions, you have certain Americanisms in your inflection.
    Just curious is all.
