@@superocker06 nuke already exists, it's inconvenient but it can shoot tnt over 1000 blocks in each direction using 100 stacked tnt minecarts falling onto a dripstone spike while hundreds of primed tnt drops down around it.
This is best used with timed quite releases in the air so the tnt reaches over buildings and allows it to achieve that 1 km blast radius.

A nuke is a one-shot weapon. The flying-machine Carpet Bomb will continue indefinitely until it hits an obstruction it cannot push.

There are way cooler cannons too... everything from simple scatter cannons that blow up everything in front of it to huge, complex precision machines that can shoot 20 chunks, fire a sand stack to the height limit while breaking dozens of slabs underneath it, and nuke an entire wall even covered with water. There were even cannons that could bore a tunnel that was hundreds of blocks long instantly. Factions was fun, to say the least. And to be completely honest the ingenuity people used in what was supposed to be a simple block game is actually terrifying.
TL;DR this was just the tip of the TNT cannon iceberg and the people who developed those other insane cannons should work at NASA

What’s cool is that it’s also possible to counter this missile with a curtain of exploding tnt launched by a cannon to explode it from a safe distance. Although it’s a lot more costly than the missile because it requires a lot of cannons to guarantee a hit.
Edit: I wanted to add that a tnt countermeasure is, like, the least optimal way of countering it, but I’m willing to bet my left nut that it’s the coolest way.

I was a cannoner for my factions in the 1.6-1.9 era, and we had tech you wouldn't believe. Yeah slime blocks and observers changed the game, but nothing will ever replace the raw power, beauty, and complexity of even a 100 stacking .4s auto nuke. You build one of those, or better yet a 255 nuke auto, at 30 chunks out from a 300 wall sky base and set it up, and then just let it rip. Whoever you were raiding would have like 10 minutes to notice the attack, get members online, gear up, and either counter cannon or cregg your cannon in a direct attack before it broke through the walls.
And then on top of that if the raid wasn't going well, you would self destruct your cannon so rival alliances of faction couldn't steal your cannon tech designs, like anti cobweb when that came out, reverse nuke, left/right shooters, or midair stackers.
So much nostalgia. Hate that EULA shut down all the good factions servers, and I never even paid for stuff I just loved playing it even against players who paid ridiculous amounts of money for kits and spawners.
Bet I could still make a 100 stack auto pseudo-nuke if I tried.

Back in Beta I had this massive TNT cannon I called the Macross Cannon that could launch 3 blocks of TNT over 500 blocks away with block on block accuracy. Also had a pirate ship with compact TNT cannons. One thing few remember is that water used to push lit TNT and compress it into a single block size, so it would all detonate at once with massive potential. So by dumping more and more lit TNT into a single trough, you could get insane ranges. Modern TNT cannons, where the TNT is not compressed by water, are not nearly as powerful.

With some physics mods, you can launch TNT minecarts from rails on ballistic trajectories. There is no upper limit on velocity.

They all do still have uses and shine the best in certain ways.
You could set up the first cannon in a nice position to shoot over a wall or at a tower where a player may be inside of. Much easier to set up and practical.
Second you could "snipe" players or builds and certain fortifications, time it with some buddies and you could raid someone who's probably protected by walls with arrows. Takes a while to set up but worth it for the aim.
Second is basically a bunker destroyer, where the enemy is dealing with it, you could set up another at a different area or use it as a distraction. Which it's pretty much ideal for a distraction

2022 reminds me of when Space Engineers was still early access and weapons hadn't been invented yet, so people built their own torpedoes with custom-shaped warheads to deal varying damage to enemy ships, but only _after_ accelerating toward them and releasing the payload. With how far Space Engineers has come, I wonder what it would be like to recreate them with modern technology 🤔
More to the point, why am I asking this under a Minecraft video?

2012: the classic manually loading TNT cannon
very inefficient since it took so long to reload and even longer to make
    2016:automatically loading TNT gun
this gun was only inefficient in the amount of obsidian and TNT you needed
    2022: TNT unguided missile
as we all know this missile it is still inefficient because slime is hard to get let alone honey and nobody has tnt minecarts but still this one was better than its predecessors because its capability to cause mass destruction rather than a little at a time

God I remember devving cannons in the great board wars for /k/. While the designs I had were actually very, very useful and could launch tnt at a range of hundreds of blocks away and were small enough to hide anywhere, they couldn't be used because the management were utterly fucking terrible and /k/ was wiped out by /ck/ of all fucking things. Ended up defecting being the only person that survived that encounter. I dunno what it was about the cooking anons, but they could fucking fight.
