i have been told for years im over reacting and to just get over it. which drives me more insane. along with saying i wish i was deaf all i ever get is oh you dont mean that youd miss hearing music or our voices...erm no i can say with absolute conviction that the quality of my life would improve drastically if i was deaf. as much as i wouldnt wish this on anyone its nice to know im not alone and other people understand.

you are definitely NOT alone. I think teaching MANNERS to all children would greatly improve this for everyone for many reasons. Of course it isn't always about "manner" but sometimes a good deal of it is. Anyway, good luck to all and God Bless you all.❤

Mine is so bad, even the blinking turn signal noise enrages me. I have to have earbuds in. I will plug my ears if I'm next to someone who starts drinking or eating anything. I look crazy, but I have to do it, especially in the car. I loathe the sound of someone eating chips/crackers. Slurping, someone eating with their mouth open like a neanderthal, the sound of the water when the shower is going, the clicking of a pen, someone chewing on their nails omg. I can be at a basketball game and still hear someone popping gym and chewing loudly. I want to scream and ask is that good?!?! They are most definitely loud chewers when I can hear at a basketball game. I have it so bad, and I wish people understood. They think I'm crazy of course, and I always say do you think I enjoy this?! Do you think I like having this?! No, it is pure hell. I have asked where I can get industrial strength ear plugs that are sound proof, a barrier that sound cannot get through. There isn't anything out there that doesn't make me look crazy or weird. I have it with my sight too! I hate seeing someone chew on their fingers/nails. So the sight and sound both with that. Seeing someone eat spaghetti or a bite of a salad, where they slurp or the food is hanging out, I say you know, that food isn't going anywhere, eat like a fricken adult! I wish there was a cure, I need therapy lol.

I have misophonia. Had it for most of my life. My mom chewing gum made (and still makes) me physically angry. I used to tell her about it but I had no name for it/ didn’t know why I was like this so she told me to “get over it” :(
Now many years later there is this lady at the office I work at that chews gum with her mouth open after lunch everyday. And our office is typically very quiet so it’s very hard to tune out. That’s when I get my AirPods our and blast music. 😭 I so wish there was a cure. I hate myself for it because, like he said, It’s more of a ME problem. Sigh

For anyone who is struggling really bad I recomment buying any wireless headphones that fit inside ear defenders (they sell them on amazon). This method has been a life saver for me as it blocks out around 85% of noise and then when I turn on the music I hear almost nothing... :)
the only downside is that I have to navigate a bit like a deaf person but that's about it.

I was watching a movie, it was about a CIA agent or something I think it was called "Old Man" and the woman was in a bar and the guy behind her was eating and well basically she said she had misophonia and explained what it was. So thank you actress. LOL. I can explain this to my family now. My husband has bad sinus issues and sleep apnea so he can't eat quietly, he just doesn't eat around me at all. In a restaurant though, it's more tolerable for me.

I work in a free play arcade which you'd think would be hell but where its so many loud sounds its strangely better but when I leave I have to adjust slowly to the difference or i cant handle the low ambience with trigger noises. I praise headspace too! But boy howdy do i wish that there was a cure!!!! 😭

Oh, no, it doesn't feel like a little slap to the face, it feels like a vicious huge attack. It's NOT JUST an annoyance, it triggers a suicidal/homicide rage. And it is NOT easier to be atound triggers with background noise. It's IMPOSSIBLE to ignore. There is no way to learn to accept it and move through it. And mindfulness doesn't work. Your misophonia must be EXTREMELY mild if those things work for you.

I have visual issues as well... If I'm in a store and not immediately next to who I came with I cannot for the life of me, distinguish a familiar face amongst strangers. There is no "meet me at the such and such" because I will go to that area, dumb as a deer in headlights, and just end up walking out to the car and waiting and fighting tears of frustration. I hate that I'm like this!!!!

Actually these are all different.... Visual generally will be misokinesia/ synesthesia/sensory processing disorder ...tactile = sensory processing disorder/HSP ... Misophonia is strictly auditory.
However all these crazy, complex and marvelous brain "disorders" all come from over firing neural pathways and usually a brain will have multiple sensory issues, someone with ADHD will likely also have HSP or misophonia etc.

When my husband is watching TV and lets say If I'm taking a nap and haven't yet fallen asleep he will keep tapping with his fingers on a bottle cap or the side of the water bottle. Yes, steam is building inside me so I ask "will you please stop tapping because I can hear it from my bedroom. He will stop momentarily but while he has stopped tapping I am getting more anxious and angry because I know he will start again so I will lay in my bed waiting for the sound to start again and it always does and when it starts again I'm thinking that he is doing in on purpose but actually he is not. I do have OCD and my dad could not stand for someone to eat a peach without pealing it first. He said it bothered him knowing that the teeth were scraping on the peach fuzz.

I always feel about the way I react to these eating sounds he is talking about. No one ever knows it because I keep it to myself, but it is so worrisome to me. Why do I feel this way.. I just pray about it and move on with my life. I just remove myself to another room if I have to. Restaurants are ok for me because there is so much noise all around me. But my husband eating a bowl All Bran Buds with milk in the morning with the slurping and the crunching makes me cringe. So I just go to my art studio and it immediately calms me down. Sadly, he just eats breakfast alone everyday. Terrible I know. He also eats soooo fast . When we go out to restaurants I feel like we are pigs going to a trough. I am always the last one to finish my meal. I take small bites, chew quietly and converse a little in between most bites. He just shoves it all down so quickly. I find myself wishing his mother had taught him better. Sad I know. Trust me I know. I am dealing with it just fine but I am so relieved to discover that there are other people experiencing this same phenomenon just like myself. I hope they are able to deal with it better to. God Bless All!❤

My brother and I would get otheted and perturbed at lunch time because so many would chew smack with theyre mouths open. Taliking while eating and with food shooting out, The screeching of chalk on the chalk board. the screeching of the subway cars on NYC. Oh my god !
    We used Buddhist meditation. Silence
And we treated it by the complete opposite. We started listening to avant garde music loud. It's was difficult at first to listen to those sounds
but I could actually feel it changing my brain some how.
I don't get bothered by any of my old triggers any more. Google say jt productions "she dances in the wind" or
    "Zappa Beefheart"
by the youth listen your brain will start to shift. Ianis xanakis. John cage. Lucuano Berio are composers of the avant garde.
Try it. It wirks great for us. Pretty much cured us.

I have misophonia and I didn't realize it until I began a long term relationship (married). My husband is a nurse and doesn't believe it's real or I'm just oversensitive. I always tell him that if a car alarm was going off in the neighborhood for 3 hours I'd only be mildly annoyed, but human body sounds (sniffing, throat gurgling, lip smacking, chewing) drive me absolutely insane and fill me with rage.
