OJ is the worst type of player. Immediately starts targeting people, doing everything they can to blame someone else. When they are robbed because of doing well, they name call. Highly immature and obnoxious the entire game.
The worst part is they get rewarded for the behavior. They position as second-place, run their mouth about how the most important thing is that [target] can't be allowed to have anything, and then try to make the rest of the table afraid to get their attention / spite. Then they win because everyone else is playing around [target] instead of trying their best to advance themselves.
And then does what every whiny/bad player does…saying “that was allll luck” “I would have won if it only a skill based game”. Yawn…you are playing catan
@@LeeboLemon He saw an easy path to victory: 1 player as a bot, 1 player as the scourge, thinks he's better than / better positioned than Blue and just has swindle or dice 1 player to win. He wanted an easy win and got slapped instead. Greed makes fools out of all of us.
Regarding bots, I have an idea for colonist: let others players join as bots - make it so they don't see players' name nor the chat (limit them as if they are a bot) and reward them the colonist coins for doing that. It could work like some queue where they would get randomly assigned to available bot positions, ranked games being preferred.
That's a really interesting idea. I just worry that there would be some absolute goons coming in and ruining the game. Perhaps add a rating from the other players in the game - ask them how they thought the 'bot' played this game and if all 3 say they threw the game they lose the right to be the bot in the future.
This is an ok idea for casuals but not for ranked. Ranked is meant to be an evaluation of a players skill so allowing others to play on that account is not going to create an accurate representation of that player. It could also just result in total carnage with people entering that queue and then going into games and purposely ruining them. It definitely wouldn't work. Maybe for casuals where it doesn't matter so much but then again the bot does trade in casuals anyway and usually does brain dead trades. I think the best option is just to improve the AI and try to create an 'average skill level' bot in every single element of the game, including trades, so that when someone leaves the game can continue and play more like a game would with an 'average player'. A bit like a chess bot that can be made stronger or weaker, the catan AI could be similar. The bots on colonist are quite far from this yet but as AI technology improves it could happen.
It's an interesting idea. It would only make sense if substitute players would be of similar ranking. I'm not sure people would actually be willing to participate in this. I wouldn't for sure unless the payoff is really big. And I'm not sure if this makes sense from business point of view. The coin incentive have to be rather high to motivate people directly affecting the revenue just for slight improvement of player experience.
the bot needs a refresh. in 4 player game you can't just remove a player from the trading network. sure as a person you could embargo or just not except any trades, but you still have that option, with bot there is zero option. as the bot, you can have ultimate hand tracking, and then rank trading based off of how helpful that is to getting a vp within the next turn or two. with colonist keeping a ledger of all games now, they can use that to help build an ai model of how best to play catan.
Do you realize how much dev resources that would take? If an ai had trading enabled, people would abuse the trading to help them win unless it was a tier of ai that a small indie team will not be able to provide. Disabling trades is the lesser of two evils, you would be way more upset if bots traded away a free winning position to someone which absolutely would happen.
@@momoaa Yes I do realize how challenging that is, I once had to write AI for connect 4, it was no simple task. It's not that this has to happen tomorrow, and only solves a sub-problem of player experience. But I also feel like they could reweigh bot games, as it's more of a 3 player game with a dead player.
@@elitecpudoc329 yeah the bot stuff is rough, particularly the better you are and the bigger the skill gap and if you are actually making your placements off of knowing future trades and then they end up being locked and bricking your game, like what nearly happened here. Its just a tough problem is all, im not aware of the dev team size but I cant imagine its that big
Just to note that DyLighted was at a 3-3 record and not 4-2 coming into this game! Lost in games 3, 5 and 6 previously. Just thought to point out for accuracy as a frequent watcher (still am amazing record for him anyway)

They just wanted more people to pay and view ads. Now I play chess and it's FAR more enjoyable. No tantrums. Way more maturity. And no one can screw you over but yourself.

He knows he needs the tempo of dropping the settle and he actually tracks and knows oj cant have a settle there, and wont get the trades for it, even if he rng pulled a road building first. Meanwhile you dropping the road would be stuck with an empty hand getting 2v1 robbed on repeat and fall too far behind to win

But Dylan was very hesitant, so obviously he did not operate under the assumption that he would be gang robbed regardless. In other words your assumption and Dylan's assumption differ. Since we are discussing here the consistency of Dylan's worldview during the game, we should adopt Dylan's assumptions, and not make our own.

When no one gave him a trade, he was forced into either holding a city and being gang robbed on 2 points or building a city and being gang robbed on 3 points. I think the decision was pretty simple here.
The chat logs make these Catan videos so much better. The gameplay is good and all but people coping and arguing in the chat is so funny.

You are misunderstanding. Brick port lets you trade 2 brick for another resource, not vice versa.
