In this case, he very likely hit Kira with a weaker and slower punch, then knelt down to make it seem like his wounds made him too weak to actually fight. Doing that made Kira comfortable and confident, so that he’d be careless with his attack, giving Jotaro the opening needed to beat the shit out of him
