- Humans go by the name of Homo sapiens. How did our species come to be? How and when was human civilization developed? The fields that seek to answer these huge questions are anthropology and archeology. We will study the evolution of hominid species, as well as the remains we use to understand early human civilization. This will be covered as we look at biological anthropology, archeology, and cultural anthropology. Let's get started!

Im super excited for this series! I know you've been working on it for a while and I can't wait to see more!
I’m so excited for this series! Much appreciated Dave. ❤
This presentation is extremely well put-together.
Dave, you are a crack man! Happy New Year!
Absolutely psyched for this series! Rock on, Prof Dave!
Excited for this series dave, keep up the good work!
Love this series. waiting fo the next lecture.
thank you so much for making this
How exciting! Thank you Dave and thank you Erika!
Glad youre getting into anthropology, you mentioned you really liked this topic in some other vid
LET’S FREAKING GO IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I
In my final semester on a General Anthropology track, excited to see this content for a refresher.
Thanks for keeping Daves great.
Awesome video. Jane Goodall's work and John Calhoun's mice studies have convinced me that everything about us was already present in other social mamals. Just my thoughts but it looks like physics determines everything. I'm looking forward to the series. Great script Gutsick !
Thanks for the science! Thanks to G. Gibbon as well for the expertise. You're both ridiculously busy, so know it's not unappreciated. :)
Omg thank you! This is right on time to help me prep for a class ive got coming up :)
Eagerly waiting for more of these❤❤❤
me with a masters in anthropology: yaaaaaaaaaay
me tooooo
@@TheOtherMwalimu Woooohooo! Every time I meet an anthropologist, we have great conversations. Not saying we're special, we just have ways of understanding each other
Sending you all the love from a teacher in Norway

Gigachad Professor Dave drops another series! Can't wait to learn this
Wael, hope this year is better than that last for you brother
I wish so my friend 🙏
And i hope the same for you 😊
i found this bloke's video essays this morning. since then i've watched about 8 hours worth, and achieved nothing else all day. and i consider the day well spent. he seems to cover nearly all my interests. astronomy, biology, latin even!. if he had ones on Greek and electronics too he would cover everything i care about.
Excellent work, as always. Thanks for your dedication. I know personally how frustrating dealing with some of these charlatans, frauds, and religious bigots can be so you have my deep support.
Since Professor Dave included variations of the "March of Progress" concept in his slides here, I hope his next video will include at least a little bit about how *this is not how evolution works.*
Where are the other videos!
to be released on a schedule!
My fav youtuber in this field is Stephan Milo!!
Medical or Health Anthropology?
Medical Anthropology. It is a sub-field of Sociocultural Anthropology. I was a university Instructional Assistant in Medical Anthropology.
@@TheOtherMwalimuare you talking about anthropology of medicine or medicinal anthropology?
@@Senriam I've never heard of "medicinal" anthropology. But MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGY as a subfield (I guess it could be called Anthropology of Medicine?) studies "human health and disease, health care systems, and biocultural adaptation" (Wikipedia)
🙂👍
Do geography
Thanks 🙏
Very nice video ❤❤❤❤❤
You should do a collab with gutsick gibbon!!
This one is! She wrote the script for this series.
Oh! I see that now lol
anthropology is my second favorite field of science behind paleontology and i’m so glad you’re delving into it. now just for you to do paleontology😉
I like all kinds of science and history and theology too, not big on the numbers part of math and physics buy I do like to learn about astronomy but with physics you don't always need to understand the longhand formulas to understand the end result.
I pretty much read textbooks and watch documentaries for fun 😅 but I've got high functioning autism so in general, I'm a sponge for information. It's people I don't always understand.
@@OmegafrazGaming
If you really,REALLY want to understand Math/Physics
Those "formulas" are what you'll want to focus on outside of the concepts...if you've got time, learn them.
@marcioamaral7511 math and physics are boring imo and you don't need to understand the inner working of a car to know how to drive a car as they say my only interest in math or physics lies in the bare minimum needed to understand astronomy. I don't need to know the math because there are other people to do it foe me. Again not that dissimilar from a car needing repaired and going to a mechanic.
@marcioamaral7511 moreover history, mythology, theology, and philosophy, are my real strengths not science or math while I have a lot of knowledge on science I have limited math ability. And my science knowledge pales in comparison to my knowledge in the other category. In particular I'm interested on Asian and European history and mythos I know some American history an mythos but I find the history of the others to be alot more rich and interesting. You only need to look at their architecture and culture and compare it to ours and ours seems so plain by comparison.

Was there a mistake in the first upload?
there is no other upload
@@ProfessorDaveExplains ok must have been a mistake, I saw that upload in my notifications a few days ago. I wanted to watch it but it had disappeared.
If you are a member, I did release this for members a few weeks ago.
I was wondering when this would come out, ever since you mentioned a long time ago that it was being written by Gutsick Gibbon I knew I had to watch it!
I was well interested and want to learn more but other videos r hidden why??
they are released on a schedule, 18 in total over the next few months

Hyperintellectual 🫡
Do you think another sentient species will convergently evolve during homo sapiens lifetime
It would probably be us who evolved them like that
The tv series bones has anthropology as it's theme.
Ego, that is what I think makes us unique. Other creatures show intelligence and even emotion, but ego is a human trait.
Ah, I see you've never met a house cat.
@@squirrel_slapper that's not actually ego
@squirrel_slapper cats have territorial instinct. Instinct and ego are not the same thing. They may look or act proud or dignified but in truth this is a learned characteristic because they can get something from acting a certain way. It why cats act like kittens around humans because they learned that doing so gets rewarded.
@squirrel_slapper ego is rooted in pride, and cats have wide scope of emotions. Pride is not an emotion that they have a capacity for
I would argue that it’s language capacity: other animals have the ability to communicate, but not to the same degree as us
Anthropology was always very interesting to me. I often wish i went to college for science I'd love to do EEGs, MRIs, etc on people from the worst inner cities in America vs. Suburbs vs. Farmland. Im cyrus how our brain chemistry changes with our environments. I'd also like to compare people from San Francisco/Seattle/Portland to people from say Biloxi, Tuskegee, and alpharetta or something. Like bible belt vs. Deep blue cities. I trulyv think that your environment will effect your brain in certain ways. Political anthropology I suppose?
that sounds interesting, are there any studies on this?
Thnx Professor!
I will be a Anthropology student on Jan 8th, 2024
Hence my symmetrical relation to subject
Look forward to the next
I minored in anthropology in college
❤
It would be interesting if you were to do a series on Buddhist philosophy. I have seen a lot of consistency of Buddha's teachings with Science.
Is there such a thing like sexual antrhopology? After all sex is the primal reasons of reproduction, therefore interfering with ethical spreading and on and on .
We are just a bunch of primates.
"now will you kindly send that academic out here, so we can show him what we really think, about the art of ANTHROPOLOGY!!" -Dutch Van Der Linde
None of that is true!! 🤡🤣
Great choice of one of the most controversial types of sciences till this day, can't wait for the upcoming episodes in this series
I am sure that you have heard of a channel called Divergent. This guy needs to be debated and brought back down to the globe earth ground. He only shows pictures which anyone can do to make like they are experts. I asked him if he was interested in a debate with you. Of course your choice. Should be an easy victim for you, probably less than 10 minutes. Maybe you can check out one of his videos and see if he is worth your time. Been watching you for over 5 years now and never get bored. Peace Brother.
Anthropology: Being a Furry
So many misander anthropology, it's the study of race which is a numeral basis of 1/3. Humans are categorized as soid, goid & loid. When synopsized by color it's white, black & yellow. Yet there are dolts who think that an ethnic nationality I.e "Mexican" fits into race. It is in no facet a race, it's 'mestizo' meaning a combination of soid & loid (white & yellow) ; the white being of Spaniard origin & the yellow being native-injun which itself is color-labeled as red. Numbers & colors. 💯
You’re an insane person.
Please get help.
Discovering color blindness, was a paradigmatic change.
Color was considered outside the mind.
Is this correct?
Both psychology and anthropology became formalized.
How the individual and societies construct reality.
My intro was....
I read a book called M.
An anthropological evaluation of humans from the perspective of a gorilla.
He listed human myths.
Followed by Pre Columbian anthropology. Through the fiction of Carlos Castaneda.
A UCLA anthropology student.😂😂😂
Did not even Jinsha in Chengdu, doubt this guy knows anthropology
What?
@@ProfessorDaveExplains He's referring (poorly) to the Jinsha site in Chengdu, a Chinese city. It is a major human artifacts site dating back to about 1600 years ago onwards.
His poorly conveyed example and his accusation are of course of zero standing, a non-sequitur.
i respect u so much ..but we didn't come from animals , it true that humans share a common ancestry with other animals, particularly primates. Our biological and genetic similarities with other species provide substantial evidence for our evolutionary connections. but that doesn't mean humans come from animals
Um, humans are objectively animals. And primates.
Latin anima means "breath" or "soul," and animalis, the adjective that comes from it, means "having breath or soul."
_"we didn't come from animals , it true that humans share a common ancestry with other animals"_
If we share a common ancestry with other animals, then by definition we come from animals. You do not seem to have thought this through.
If we share common ancestry with other animals and primates means we came from animals. Do you know how evolution works or did u just not think before u said this?
So, I guess since humans are not animals, we are plants? You sound stupid. Stop being stupid.
Odd choice of thumbnail that only further perpetuates the misconception that anthropology centers solely around the study of non-Western cultures and people/reinforces harmful colonialist and imperialist assumptions.
How is clip art of an African tribe perpetuating anything? It was chosen because humans originated in Africa.
🎁 here is your present. I give one to the dumbest comment I read each day.
