  • I love my GreenStalk towers, I just hate having to water them multiple times a day to keep up with the Florida heat. This is my first attempt at setting up irrigation to the GreenStalk towers, and can say I've learned a lot! I will say it's easy to do with one tower, but if you are hooking up multiple towers you're going to want to get 1/2" tubing or greater to supply enough water to reach the tops of the towers.
Also important tidbit: make sure you leave your reservoir watering trays that come with the GreenStalks in so if you need to supplement for whatever reason, or your watering system fails, you have an easy back up solution.
Best tip: check each layer as you add it in, making sure you have good water pressure and each dripper has water coming out.

Great idea! I have my first greenstalk and was trying to come up with DIY watering with what I already have. Maybe adding shut off valves within your irrigation network so you turn watering off and on to the rest of your gardens and can focus watering to greenstalks only to get higher pressure. I use shut off valves a lot to adjust watering by plant type.

Such a great idea! I am actually looing and reinstalling these in my new Colorado garden and thinking of installing them top to bottom, instead of bottom to top, to help with water pressure. I hope you love the greenstalks!

I am thinking about how to set up a way to water my Greenstalk when I am away (still snow here and my Greenstalk has not yet been delivered lol). I was thinking of working with the watering system already built into the design and just running a hose on a timer long enough to fill the top basin once a day or whatever. Is this something you considered?

Are you referring to the new watering system they just released? I have one on pre-order and hoping to get it soon! Regarding filling it up once a day on a timer- I had considered that but where I am running that level of hose over with my small splitter would have been a pain, and the FL sun does a lot to heat up that water and it is very very hot for the first few minutes (if it was off and then turned on) so I worried about burning the plants. I'd love to know which route you went!

@@gardeningwithalessandra8477 I think the new Spring watering system was announced like the day after I posted this comment lol! I did order it so I don't have to mess with finding clips that fit, but otherwise I think the "Spring" watering system can be achieved with components you can buy at a hardware store. I also liked the idea of a lid.

The lid was much needed for sure. I can't wait to hear what you think of the new system. My big concern is the water pressure, as that was probably the biggest problem I dealt with on my DIY system. We shall see!

Could you run a hose up the middle of the tower with a T connection at each tier with one drip emitter to fill up the water dish? That way the tower could still be rotated and the irrigation wouldn't be in the way or visible.

Hi! I considered it at the beginning but here's why I opted not to: if you were having a full 5 tower stack, I wanted to have the top water reservoir still available as a back up system to water, and with pipes running down the middle that would def limit the water flowing. 2) When I looked at the 1/4" tubing and how it would fit with a connecter on the interior, I wasn't convinced it would fit without getting smushed making the tiers not stack as well. 3) since I have a few towers (and subsequently learned not a large enough tube to feed them all) I've had to do some rearranging (see recent garden tour videos) and it was super easy to take layers off. Honestly once the plants grow in you can't see the tubing but I can appreciate wanting to hide it. Let me know if you decide to run irrigation tubing through the center!

Great timing for this video . Lol
I have a raised garden, I'm getting it all ready , this is my first time using castings in my garden.
This is probably a silly question 🤣
    I don't know unless I ask , 🤷‍♀️ ..
A thought 🤔💭 came to me today , while watering.
I no there is worms in the garden . Everyone on UA-cam say , let the water sit at least 24 hours , before putting in our bins. Now that being said . What will happen to the 🪱 using the garden hose water ?
    Talk soon 🤗🤗

Hi Janice! I think in the garden it's probably fine to use the hose water if there are worms, or aren't! It's a bit more spread out and not as concentrated as a small tote bin with a lot of water added. Good luck :)

you let water sit for 24 hr so that the chlorine dissipates or sprinkle some vit c to neutralize the chlorine. Hose watering your garden or adding some to a worm bin isin't going to harm anything, unless your making a worm Tea, or a plant Tea. The desired end result of Tea is to multiply the microbial activity that are in the castings, which chlorine might limit that life. The best water for a garden comes from rain, rain water has an electrical charge to it-which hose water is void of. So, water your garden and pray for the good Lord to send rain inbetween to give it that oomph inbetween. We ran irrigation but had to run a thicker line overhead with drop downs because the dripline system couldn't perform all the ups, downs curves- but we finally got it working and that will be so helpful during hot hot days. great video
