Thanks Brian for your honest reviews. It is because of your honesty that I subscribed some time ago and keep coming back for more. I have purchased a few items because of your reviews. Keep up the great work my friend.
I ran into the same problem with my Puma Warden with Saw, I got the one with stag, But again, Those kind of Knives are for dressing and skinning knives, But any sharp blades will cut wood, But wood Saws are generally thinner.
I think those saw teeth are meant for bone not wood, don't know if that makes a difference. My Gerber game processing set came with two saw blades; one for wood and one for bone. The teeth on the bone saw blade were identical to the ones on the knife. It's meant for sawing through the pelvis on deer etc.
wow thank you for your very honest review. I hope Schrade appreicated the honesty too. I came in late from work last night. at 6am with 4 hours of sleep my kids were letting me know you have 3 videos that we must watch and could we go out and practice some woodcraft after breakfast. I am running out of things to show teach any good books you reccomend
I like the concept, but the execution needs works. Best knife and saw combo I've found are the 111mm Victorinox models with one-hand opening and locking main blade and saw, along with just a couple of other tools. Such as the new Swiss Army issue knife, One-hand Trailmaster, One-hand Trekker. Especially that last one since you can get it with an optional plain-edged blade instead of that silly steak-knife style partially serrated version.
My main complaint is that the half serrated blade seems to dull too quickly. Then it feels more like tearing instead of cutting. I only know of one technique that works consistently to sharpen the serrations. Problem is, while it works; it doesn't work very well.
So basically they made the 90 degree spine on the saw which is bottom side of the handle when using the knife, Brian, they should have consulted you BEFORE making this. I'm surprised they made this tool like this. Thanks for the honest review!
Thank you for that review. I too like the saw/knife combo and am looking for the perfect one. So far the Victorinox Trekker has what I need. Do you know of any better?
it seems to me that the saw needs a heavier set to the teeth. But that won't fix the spine of the saw digging into your fingers while using the knife. I wonder if it would be easier to use if the blades opened on opposite sides and opposite ends of the handle.
Some folks have said maybe ity is a bone saw. Maybe so, That might make better sense since you wouldn't be using the knife skinning and the hot spot wouldn't be as important. I'll try to get some bone and check it out.
I wonder if they shipped you one of those dummy display knives? Though the blade seems to cut ok. I have to say the saw blade on my swiss army knife works a treat.
Too many variables to the question. Under $50 I really still like the Schrade SCHF42 (or 42D) At around $100, The LT Wright Bushcrafter HC is an excellent value in a very traditional "Kephart" style design.
As always Bryan, thanks for your integrity and honesty in your reviews. So the saw doesn't work and messes up the ergos on the knife? Great design...lol. Victorinox, and even more so Leatherman offer better saw/knife combinations.
Taylor Brands, I apologize if my previous comment sounded insulting that was not my intention. I have 3 ways to fix the design also a modification to improve / make comfortable, the ones that have already been manufactured. : ) Tyler
Although not the winner it was expected to be, however i really like the concept i think a longer blade and saw with better teeth would be helpful. How would you fix the grip issue? A fold over back cover perhaps? Thanks for the review. :-)
And that's not mentioning a multi-tool as well. One can't have a whole tool box with them, but these items I would consider essential. One of my knives has a sort of multiple uses, but is not big enough to be a saw. Maybe I am being stubborn, but a saw smaller than a Bahco folder or in my case a Corona is pretty much going to wear you out. I want something capable for a week at a time or at least a 3 day weekend. Pocket knife saws just are not going to get it done from my view at least as designed at this moment. Tell Schrade what to do to fix it or make it better (which you pretty much did) and see if they come up with something else.
+James Andrews the small saws are not really intended to replace a larger one or for your main cutting tasks. I think of the more for smaller crafting type jobs
If the blades were opening different (opposite) ways it would work better. On one side knife blade on other saw blade. That way they both be opened and not interfere with the handle. Or maybe even separated in two tools.
obviously the saw wasn't any good, but might be nice to see a comparable saw like you mention used on the same piece of wood, if you happen to have one. just a thought. but anyway great as always and I am enjoying the new chuck Norris facts :)
If they cut the saw blade so it would match the rubber handle and make the saw so it would cut a little better than it did maybe the concept would be a little better, but I will carry a couple of knives and a folding saw. Don't leave home without them.
I thought the concept was cool but the end product doesn't come close to what it should be. Love the bloopers in the end. I wouldn't mind if you added more to it.
I think Schrade needs to send you the prototype first and then modify it according to your suggestions, before they go into production. I don't know why you're not part of their alpha test program.
They often do. This was one I requested to check out from the catalog. It works both ways, they send me new stuff to check out and I ask them to send stuff I think looks interesting and you might like to see
Hi there! Just for your info :-) Only chuck norrises beard has his own beard. Only chuck norris can clap his shoulders from behind while running. Righty only? Lost me already. I agree that the Swiss Army (Victorinox) saw is better. Probably the saw on the Leatherman also. Shame the saw blade reduces the knife utility.
Keep that wood!!! Make some REAL Scales! In almost 40 years of Carrying my old Gerber 350st Exchange, I have NEVER used the saw blade for anything, EVER... I mean, I can see if you were that guy that got stuck while hiking, and had to cut his own arm off, yeah, the saw might have come in handy... No Pun intended!
Say Heah Brian, That knife is for dressing game, That saw U et would cut bone better, Find a volunteers and check it out and see what he or she would say heh heh heh, .. ,
An excellent review on what not to buy, lol. Bad design and really one whack with almost any of my knives and wood becomes stakes and kindl'n. Come on now lets throw some Bowies!
lol, I've seen your fancy Aerodynamic Testing Lab (ATL). I accidentally killed a squirrel as he came down the tree, it wasn't funny but it was kinda hilarious.
MY MIND pop. Taylor Brands, if you need some help you can send me your prototypes before! you start production. I'm available. I am an inventor and a problem solver. If you choose to do this I can guarantee nothing like this will happen again. : ) Tyler ...Good! revue
Buddy some people are on a budget and have to get what they can afford. We are the same people that drink high life beer and $8 bourbon but we are also the ones to look out for when it all starts going down. We already know how to adapt and use what you have.
+Adam Alford As a construction worker, I know all to well about budgets. but if you spend any amount of time in the woods doing bushcraft, camping, etc...its better in the long run to just save a little longer to get a knife of good quality. that cheap Chinese steel is junk. period. what's the use in having a knife that you have to baby just to keep from chipping the blade. that's no bargain.
Cheap saws!! Why do they still exist?? Victorinox could put a saw that would fell a tree (given enough time) 60 years ago and the junk store stores are still not tapered and with plain and simply the wrong teeth. Couldnt they test it before they send out thousands of them for sale? Sheesh
And, to be fair, I don't think they have actually sent out thousands for sale yet. I will check this week but I think this was a pre-production model they sent me to check out. This model is not on their website. Stay tuned and I'll try to give an update on one of the next few Schrade Saturday videos.
Thanks Brian for your honest reviews. It is because of your honesty that I subscribed some time ago and keep coming back for more. I have purchased a few items because of your reviews. Keep up the great work my friend.
+Couch “topgearrally” Potato thanks
Thanks for the heads up!
As it turns out JJ, this may have been an early model for me to check out. I'm finding out.
+Survival On Purpose Ahh cool. It is great how Schrade does such good field testing!
Glad that your honest ! Great review !
A Scout is Trustworthy ;-)
Thank you for your honesty
An honest review! Just a testimony that he isn't bought out! Thanks man
+ivan hita thanks
Wow that's a pretty cool knife and I've been looking for a new one
Thank you for your honesty sir.
Thanks for watching
I can see what you're saying.
I appreciate your honesty
+Lazy Moose just keeping things real
I'm a big fan of honest reviews. Keep doing what you're doing Brian.
I'll do my best
Thank you for keeping it real and honest Brian. Your opinion is valued by many.
+Steven Nelson thanks for your support.
Thanks for honestly testing. I buy what works great on your channel!!
+Ray Walter I just call them like I see them
We appreciate it !!
Thanks for the info. I got excited when I seen that saw.
Me too at first
Thank you for showing that dull uncomfortable knife! Great review Bryan.
Excellent video my friend. I know I don't need one of those in my EDC, thank you for sharing. Have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks
I am liking the Chuck Norris facts. Thank you for the honest review Brian always appreciate people who call them how they see it.
I thought I'd throw them in for fun.
Gerber had one in the '80s called bolt-action exchange blade. The sawblade was very good.
Cool
It seems to be one of those things where it looks better on paper than in real life
Yep
The groove on a knife/saw blade 2 open it is calles a "NAIL PULL".
or nail nick
Good honest review. Thanks Brian!
+sackett68 Thank you.
Good stuff.
+Wingman115 thanks brother
I ran into the same problem with my Puma Warden with Saw, I got the one with stag, But again, Those kind of Knives are for dressing and skinning knives, But any sharp blades will cut wood, But wood Saws are generally thinner.
I need to try that.
I think those saw teeth are meant for bone not wood, don't know if that makes a difference. My Gerber game processing set came with two saw blades; one for wood and one for bone. +Rob roberson The Boy Scout Handbook. Older ones are my favorite. Tell your kids hello for me.
I like the random Chuck Norris facts you have started adding. Funny.
Just having fun
nice honest review buddy! keep it up chief!
+Daniel De La Cruz I'll try
I like the concept, but the execution needs works. Best knife and saw combo I've found are the 111mm Victorinox models with one-hand opening and locking main blade and saw, along with just a couple of other tools. Such as the new Swiss Army issue knife, One-hand Trailmaster, One-hand Trekker. Especially that last one since you can get it with an optional plain-edged blade instead of that silly steak-knife style partially serrated version.
I actually like the "reverse serrations" on my One Handed Trekker for all around use.
My main complaint is that the half serrated blade seems to dull too quickly. Then it feels more like tearing instead of cutting. I only know of one technique that works consistently to sharpen the serrations. Problem is, while it works; it doesn't work very well.
You are too kind Bryan... that saw sucked lol.
+cyclist01222 well .......
Thanks for a good review.....
+M. Myrick thanks for watching.
So basically they made the 90 degree spine on the saw which is bottom side of the handle when using the knife, Brian, they should have consulted you BEFORE making this. I'm surprised they made this tool like this. Thanks for the honest review!
To err is human
knowing Schrade they will re-issue a new one without this err….lol
Have you ever reviewed the TOPS C.U.B. knife? Its small but looks nice. I hear they have also a new TOPS BRAKIMO knife.
I have not
Thank you for that review. I too like the saw/knife combo and am looking for the perfect one. So far the Victorinox Trekker has what I need. Do you know of any better?
+Wheels gone Wild nope. The Trekker is my choice as well.
I thought you was gonna need oxygen after that saw workout. Good job on the review.
I like your honest review and this schrade saw should have both way facing teeth. But if it was just a knife it would be great!
+Kevin Rosales thanks.
How does it compare to the Old Timer "Buzz Saw Trapper" (knife /saw) pocket knife you reviewed a year or two ago?
+Larry Prince similar. I don't think the trapper was quite as hard on your hands
it seems to me that the saw needs a heavier set to the teeth. But that won't fix the spine of the saw digging into your fingers while using the knife. I wonder if it would be easier to use if the blades opened on opposite sides and opposite ends of the handle.
+Darryl Machtmes maybe. I think that would just move the hot spots
Wow I am glad you gave a good review on it And you exsplane why it was bad thanks
I was disappointed
Would you choose this or a two handed pull chain saw? You know the kind with a ring on either side?
+Adam Alford honestly, neither would be my first choice.
Don't know what the price is, but thanks Brian for saving that much. Great review. I think you gave the saw every chance to succeed.
Some folks have said maybe ity is a bone saw. Maybe so, That might make better sense since you wouldn't be using the knife skinning and the hot spot wouldn't be as important. I'll try to get some bone and check it out.
Now that makes some sense, but I think I'll stick with my PKS Scorpion and Stihl folding saw, they both work well.
Whatever works
I wonder if they shipped you one of those dummy display knives? Though the blade seems to cut ok. I have to say the saw blade on my swiss army knife works a treat.
+craig bennett I don't think so
My shrade usa model 225..cuts all wood..... 1985..good vidio bro.
Thanks
If you had to suggest a bushcraft knife what would it be?
Too many variables to the question. Under $50 I really still like the Schrade SCHF42 (or 42D) At around $100, The LT Wright Bushcrafter HC is an excellent value in a very traditional "Kephart" style design.
As always Bryan, thanks for your integrity and honesty in your reviews. So the saw doesn't work and messes up the ergos on the knife? Great design...lol. Victorinox, and even more so Leatherman offer better saw/knife combinations.
Good honest review
+Cameron Renteria thank you
Grate review. thanks
Grate review? I thought this was a knife review? It didn't look like a grate to me but maybe I'm mistaken. My eyesight isn't that great.
What are you. the spelling police for you tube. Or just anouther troll who gets off looking for misspelled words. Take a hike.
+Bharley57 west another buddy "another" A N O T H E R "another"
the saw blade seems to be fairly unsuitable whether in use or in the stowed position....
Even if the saw did work i wouldnt like it because how thick it is but I really appreciate your honesty. Not everything works the way it should
+John Harmon I actually like the beefy handle
good idea
+Ali Ali I thought so too
Wouldn't you eliminate the hot spot if you use the saw with the knife open or would that be to risky?
You would probably eliminate the hot spot.....and exchange it for a laceration ;-)
Could you do review of Model #214OT? If not already done?
we'll see
that's not saw knife combo that's one of Chuck Norris tooth. Great video by the way Bryan.
+Chris Lamb A baby tooth
Taylor Brands, I apologize if my previous comment sounded insulting that was not my intention. I have 3 ways to fix the design also a modification to improve / make comfortable, the ones that have already been manufactured. : ) Tyler
The saw blade is mainly useful for hurting your hand. I got it.
Or scraping a ferro rod
I think that saw is for sawing through a deers pelvic bone, not wood. Good vid my man.
Maybe but I think it needs some work
Although not the winner it was expected to be, however i really like the concept i think a longer blade and saw with better teeth would be helpful. How would you fix the grip issue? A fold over back cover perhaps? Thanks for the review. :-)
+letsplay outside just a different design
I have a similar knife the saw is only useful on bones it is for hunting purpose
So people keep telling me. I'll try to test that
And that's not mentioning a multi-tool as well. One can't have a whole tool box with them, but these items I would consider essential. One of my knives has a sort of multiple uses, but is not big enough to be a saw. Maybe I am being stubborn, but a saw smaller than a Bahco folder or in my case a Corona is pretty much going to wear you out. +vertik7 I like the separate into two tools idea
You'd think they'd test these things before they put them into production or especially send them out to retailers.
+Bama Woodsman stuff happens
+Survival On Purpose yeah stuff happens. Seems to happen often with Schrade.
+Survival On Purpose you're review was great but the product wasn't.
Thanks for the honest review. Schrade makes some great knives, just not this one.
I agree
It looks like a bone saw. For like hunting and taking bones out of animals and stuff?
+Anonymous Source maybe so.
obviously the saw wasn't any good, but might be nice to see a comparable saw like you mention used on the same piece of wood, if you happen to have one. just a thought. but anyway great as always and I am enjoying the new chuck Norris facts :)
Thanks
Victorinox one handed trekker would be a much better option for blade and saw, plus everything else it has.
I agree. It is one of my favorites.
The saw blade looks like it's designed to cut on the pull stroke like a Silky.
It is but it just doesn't cut great and tends to bind
Watching that saw was cringe worthy.
Ur vids are awesome dude!
Indeed
+Living Survival it was using it too.
I like the idea of this knife but I don't think it was well executed
by the way what is the price ??
+INDIAN PREPPER 24*7 around $20 I think.
Very good jod
Thanks
That saws a liability to use😂
+Anderson Potter I wouldn't go that far.
If they cut the saw blade so it would match the rubber handle and make the saw so it would cut a little better than it did maybe the concept would be a little better, but I will carry a couple of knives and a folding saw. Don't leave home without them.
+James Andrews yep
i see why you gave this a negative review. Also i like your chuck norris facts.
Thanks
Nice profile pic
That's to bad I wanted to get it.
I know. I was bummed
I thought the concept was cool but the end product doesn't come close to what it should be.
Love the bloopers in the end. I wouldn't mind if you added more to it.
+Jeremy Nelson the better job I do the less bloopers I have. Some days are better than others.
+Survival On Purpose Pretty soon you'll have your own cameraman 👍🏻
I think Schrade needs to send you the prototype first and then modify it according to your suggestions, before they go into production. I don't know why you're not part of their alpha test program.
Good idea
They often do. This was one I requested to check out from the catalog. It works both ways, they send me new stuff to check out and I ask them to send stuff I think looks interesting and you might like to see
agree with this comment - wouldnt they want a saw that works? Its easy to make one that does!
It's too bad it's a poopy knife it's pretty cool. Thx for your honest review.
+Jeremy Goldberg it is too bad
How can a company mess up a saw that badly? That'll get somebody hurt down the line, I'm afraid.
+Godly Prepping that may be a little extreme. Unless from exhaustion.
you could say this is a great knife and lie to people. great review
+Mario Berthely I really couldn't.
it would be better if they released a model without the saw and just the pocket knife
They have one ua-cam.com/video/TsDFysxxJtI/v-deo.html
Nice skunk
+Matthew Stevens Skunk? What skunk?
+Survival On Purpose Haha, love your videos man keep up the good work and do what makes you happy. Greetings from the UK.
Wow, 46th view. I'm earlier than a crowing rooster.
Hope everyone has a great Saturday :D
Thank you, you as well : ) Tyler
You too
Doesn't look like a knife that I would want to put a lot of trust in.
Not my favorite
I guess all schrade tools, knives can't all be winners.
I guess not

Who would throw a bowie?
lol, I've seen your fancy Aerodynamic Testing Lab (ATL). I accidentally killed a squirrel as he came down the tree, it wasn't funny but it was kinda hilarious.
I feel sorry that Schrade/Old Timer made a flop, but You told it like you see it. If you want a saw buy a saw and if you want a knife buy a knife.
+James Andrews I still like the concept. That's one reason I like my Swiss Army One HandedTrekker
not a best idea :) Schrade have great knives but saws hmmm. let say i prefer small saw from my rebar
Maybe needs some work
7:34 👃
+a Bad Mojo ;-)
Nice concept, poor execution.. That sucks but thanks for telling it how it is!
I wish it was better
Sad piece of kit!!! --- rhymes with.....
Be nice
yes... lol... knife and awwwwwww?

personally, I'd have given it a thumbs down the second anyone said "made in china with Chinese steel"
Your call
Buddy some people are on a budget and have to get what they can afford. We are the same people that drink high life beer and $8 bourbon but we are also the ones to look out for when it all starts going down. We already know how to adapt and use what you have.
