    I ran into the same problem with my Puma Warden with Saw, I got the one with stag, But again, Those kind of Knives are for dressing and skinning knives, But any sharp blades will cut wood, But wood Saws are generally thinner.

  • @bigbilllasalle
    @bigbilllasalle 8 років тому

    I think those saw teeth are meant for bone not wood, don't know if that makes a difference. My Gerber game processing set came with two saw blades; one for wood and one for bone. The teeth on the bone saw blade were identical to the ones on the knife. It's meant for sawing through the pelvis on deer etc.

    I like the concept, but the execution needs works. Best knife and saw combo I've found are the 111mm Victorinox models with one-hand opening and locking main blade and saw, along with just a couple of other tools. Such as the new Swiss Army issue knife, One-hand Trailmaster, One-hand Trekker. Especially that last one since you can get it with an optional plain-edged blade instead of that silly steak-knife style partially serrated version.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 років тому

      I actually like the "reverse serrations" on my One Handed Trekker for all around use.

    • @NGMonocrom
      @NGMonocrom 8 років тому

      My main complaint is that the half serrated blade seems to dull too quickly. Then it feels more like tearing instead of cutting. I only know of one technique that works consistently to sharpen the serrations. Problem is, while it works; it doesn't work very well.

    So basically they made the 90 degree spine on the saw which is bottom side of the handle when using the knife, Brian, they should have consulted you BEFORE making this. I'm surprised they made this tool like this. Thanks for the honest review!

  • @larryprince6791

    How does it compare to the Old Timer "Buzz Saw Trapper" (knife /saw) pocket knife you reviewed a year or two ago?

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 років тому

      +Larry Prince similar. I don't think the trapper was quite as hard on your hands

  • @Ddabig40mac
    @Ddabig40mac 8 років тому

    it seems to me that the saw needs a heavier set to the teeth. But that won't fix the spine of the saw digging into your fingers while using the knife. I wonder if it would be easier to use if the blades opened on opposite sides and opposite ends of the handle.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 років тому

      Some folks have said maybe ity is a bone saw. Maybe so, That might make better sense since you wouldn't be using the knife skinning and the hot spot wouldn't be as important. I'll try to get some bone and check it out.

    • @watermain48
      @watermain48 8 років тому

      Now that makes some sense, but I think I'll stick with my PKS Scorpion and Stihl folding saw, they both work well.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 років тому +1

      Too many variables to the question. Under $50 I really still like the Schrade SCHF42 (or 42D) At around $100, The LT Wright Bushcrafter HC is an excellent value in a very traditional "Kephart" style design.

    Although not the winner it was expected to be, however i really like the concept i think a longer blade and saw with better teeth would be helpful. How would you fix the grip issue? A fold over back cover perhaps? Thanks for the review. :-)

  • @alanaspopo1955
    @alanaspopo1955 8 років тому

    And that's not mentioning a multi-tool as well. One can't have a whole tool box with them, but these items I would consider essential. One of my knives has a sort of multiple uses, but is not big enough to be a saw. Maybe I am being stubborn, but a saw smaller than a Bahco folder or in my case a Corona is pretty much going to wear you out. I want something capable for a week at a time or at least a 3 day weekend. Pocket knife saws just are not going to get it done from my view at least as designed at this moment. Tell Schrade what to do to fix it or make it better (which you pretty much did) and see if they come up with something else.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 років тому

      +James Andrews the small saws are not really intended to replace a larger one or for your main cutting tasks. I think of the more for smaller crafting type jobs

  • @vertik7
    @vertik7 8 років тому

    If the blades were opening different (opposite) ways it would work better. On one side knife blade on other saw blade. That way they both be opened and not interfere with the handle. Or maybe even separated in two tools.

  • @Pencil-b4m

    • @mikesalter6885
      @mikesalter6885 8 років тому

      +Adam Alford As a construction worker, I know all to well about budgets. but if you spend any amount of time in the woods doing bushcraft, camping, etc...its better in the long run to just save a little longer to get a knife of good quality. that cheap Chinese steel is junk. period. what's the use in having a knife that you have to baby just to keep from chipping the blade. that's no bargain.

  • @CedricAda
    @CedricAda 8 років тому

    Cheap saws!! Why do they still exist?? Victorinox could put a saw that would fell a tree (given enough time) 60 years ago and the junk store stores are still not tapered and with plain and simply the wrong teeth. Couldnt they test it before they send out thousands of them for sale? Sheesh

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose

      maybe its a bone saw? Some folks have suggested that. But, yeah, Victorinox saws rock

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose

      And, to be fair, I don't think they have actually sent out thousands for sale yet. I will check this week but I think this was a pre-production model they sent me to check out.
