Boo for a difficult end of year😰 Hopefully 2024 is redeeming. I’m so happy to see you back in this space 🤗 Joy Luck club I read so long ago I’m not sure I could be confident in my feelings about it. I didn’t get along with Iron Widow, but your tastes tend to be very different ☺️ I have considered Godkiller so I look forward to your thoughts!
Other than my re-read of The Spear Cuts Through Water, I'm hoping to finally get into my second GGK book, Sailing to Sarantium, and I'm going to be starting Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture trilogy and reading my Sharon book, Mary by Nat Cassidy.
Sorry to hear you haven't been having a good time of late, Sarah. Here's hoping January will be better. I'm also continuing Liveship Traders, I'm about 100 pages into Mad Ship and loving it. I'm also reading Veiled Throne, the third book in Ken Liu's Dandelion Dynasty.
@@TheBookCure I'm glad to hear it 😊 Yeah, DD are massive books. I think you'll have a lot to say about them especially in regards to female representation. I can see it becoming a Top 5 Fantasy series of all-time for me. BTW, are you up to date on Doctor Who? If so, what are your thoughts?
You’re back! It’s so good to see you again. Sorry the end of 2023 was rough for you. It was rough for me too. Hopefully 2024 will be better for us both.
You have a great TBR! My goal is to finish the first liveship traders book this month. I was slowly reading it in 2023 but I need to wrap it up so I can continue the series 😅 Also, like you I have owned The Joy Luck Club for a *long time* and want to finally read it in 2024. Happy reading!
Honestly good on you for waiting with Ship of Destiny, savour that experience!! And oooh the rest are all books I haven't read yet, I am super eager to hear your thoughts on all of them! Happy reading, Sarah 🥰
I have just started on «Stonehenge» by Bernard Cornwell (Historical Fiction about the Creation of Stonehenge during the Late Neolithic Period)! In January I also plan to read: «Imperium» by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the Roman Politician Cicero) «The Buried Giant» by Kazuo Ishigaro (Fantasy inspired by Arthurian Legend) «After Rome» by Morgan Llywelyn (Historical Fiction set in Post-Roman Britain) «The Dragon Lord» by David Drake (Arthurian Sword & Sorcery)
@@TheBookCure I apologize if I am pestering you with suggestions, but I would very much like to shout out my fellow islander and indie author Alex A. Saloen (linguist, former Kong Fu Teacher and multi-instrumentalist: Banjo, fiddle and flute!) and his Fantasy series «A Tide of Sacred Ice», which I would describe as a love child of Tolkien, Malazan & Narnia, which a healthy pinch of Norwegian Folk Tales! Four books are out and all are available in English!
What an awesome TBR Sarah! Ship of Destiny was so good for me. I hope you enjoy it. I’ve had a lot of people tell me I should read the Joy Luck Club, but I just don’t know. 😂
I really enjoyed Joy Luck - great if you like generational historical fiction! I’m excited for Ship of Destiny. Hopefully I’ll be in the “loved it” camp!
Hey, I want to read the Joy Luck Club this year also! Cool. I want to read Emily wilde's also. I hope it is good. I have Iron Widow also. The author is Canadian. Our list is sort of overlapping. Godkiller. Yes. I have a book club for this book next month, so I'm reading it soon. Wow! You have great taste.
I'm so sorry for such a bad month/ end of the year. I'm excited to see you getting back to normal/a new normal(?). Yay Ship of Destiny!!! Oh my friend LOVES Amy Tan and the Joy Luck Club.
Sucks to hear December was rough. Here is to better months in the new year. As a result I who would be one of the primary people shaming you for not reading Ship of Destiny or River of Stars choose to vote to grant you absolution.
I'm halfway through Shogun right now and it's been really exciting. Some others I'll be pulling from this month: 1Q84 Dragonbone Chair Lies and Sorcery Sailing to Sarantium City of Last Chances I, Claudius
Oh my god, Iron Widow sounds sick!! Giant mechs?!?! I'm all about giant mechs. I didn't realize you hadn't started River of Stars yet, don't worry about Lions of Al-Rassan then. I don't want you to get burned out on GGK, or be stressed about your tbr since you have the Kyle and Jake tbr thing next month. We can put it on hold and maybe buddy read it later in the year or something. :)
@TheBookCure Bridgit, Diya, and I are going to read The Grace of Kings this month, you're welcome to join us in seeing if the Dandelion Dynasty hype is real or not! What if it is and it becomes a new favorite?! But really I wish that I had convinced you to read Perdido Street Station with us, because that is already a new favorite for me just from the first book.
YAS! Ship of Destiny! We are all here for you. Also, I love Joy Luck Club and The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Tan. I read both 2 decades or so ago. The movie is different from the book- be prepared for that.
I finished the book and then went back and watched the movie again! I think they did a good job adapting, but there’s so much introspection that the book was definitely a richer experience. Hope your January reads are going well 🥰
Thy aching isn’t evolution’s fault. The proof the butterflies our bellies breed. In paintings, Tristan ebbed into Iseult; a couple takes a selfie at the beach. We are the diagrams of outstretched limbs, though never still enough for Time to sketch because a husband arm is bending in to help his wife complete her pirouette. Where did the blushing in our cheeks evolve? Survival’s not the reason that they blush. Some magic’s much too primal in ourselves- -what apes we were? the magic can debunk. So, Time is not adept at drawing us. No. That’s an aching blessing up to us. a sonnet i wrote.
Sorry to hear your December was so bad. Hopefully things stay in the positive realm from here on out. I'm happy to hear the tee bee arr once again 🤩 River of Stars has been really good. I DNF'd Iron Widow but hopefully you like it!
Ship of Destiny is SUCH a good book. It wraps up the trilogy so perfectly!!! Hobb is a genius! I read The Joy Luck club years ago...probably 25 years ago...so I don't remember it well, but I do remember that I liked it!! I hope you enjoy it. I'm currently reading The Sword of Kaigen, which im loving so far..( at about 50%) other than that I have Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow to read for a bookclub and everything else can be a mood read. Yay!!

Ooh excited to hear your opinion on Ship of Destiny when you get to it :) Emily Wilde was a lot of fun, read it in Decemeber and really liked it.
I just started EW and I’m really liking it so far. I’m very nervous/excited for Ship of Destiny!
I really enjoyed Godkiller its a nice quick fantasy read and i believe the second book comes out in March!
Ooh, awesome! Hopefully I’ll enjoy it enough to pick up the second!
