Thank you for this video Bev and John. Would you make a vieo about travel safety and are consered about revieling your where abouts on real time via instegrahm and your future plans on you tube.
Thanks for an awesome tips. My husband is 64 and he has to join the medicare when he is 64 & 9 months. We plan to start full-time travel next year. Have you think about Medicare and how you plan to have them while full-time travel abroad. Medicare won’t cover you if live out of the US for 60 days. Hope you can make a video related to Medicare. ❤Thanks
I love following your videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them! You two are fun to watch. ☺️ My husband and I chose to drive our cars until they had about 250,000 miles on them. We lived in the same house for most of our marriage, rather than upgrading, even though we could afford it. We had nice things but didn't continually upgrade to the newest phone, the newest tv or car, etc. We lived like this so we could travel around the world during our working years, while we were young and healthy. Our kids joined us until they were adults. Then one day my husband was suddenly diagnosed with cancer and died in his early 60's. We were both so thankful that we'd lived a very balanced life throughout our marriage, rather than waiting for our retirement years to start; especially since he died several years before he was to retire. Enjoy every minute of your time together. I miss my hubby very much. ❤️
Oh, our hearts go out to you! We're so glad you two had the foresight to travel while you were raising your family. Your story sounds just like our moms. Bev's dad died when she was 13 and John's when he was 29. We know our moms had a tough time and we miss our dads so much. What we wouldn't give to go back and do it all again! The good news, we had the best dads, and we think they probably would have gotten such a kick out of our travels. Thank you for sharing your story and a reminder to us all to love hard and live life to the fullest! Much love! ❤️ John & Bev
Thank you for sharing your story. It is indeed important to remember to live, while we can. I am pleased to hear how much you and your husbond realised together. Take care. Greetings from Camilla in Denmark ☀️
When I travel, especially to places like France, Italy or Greece I like to pack a picnic lunch, spread out a sarong in a park or beach and sit, eat, drink and enjoy the scenery. I therefore use, as my personal carry on airplane item, a backback cooler. For the picnic I put some ice, from the hotel, in the backpack cooler, add a few cold drinks, and cheese, bread, sliced meats etc. in a ziploc bag. The cooler and ice keep the drinks and food cold. The backpack cooler is very comfortable to carry & does double duty as a carry on personal item and a picnic cooler. After the picnic I may use the dried out backpack cooler to hold any gifts, clothes, food etc I buy at a market. The one I have also floats and thus is great for river rafting or tubing.
As as a trail backpacker, I’ve used the some concept of a long distance backpacker in my travels. After traveling for decades, I use what I call “Rules of 3”…I pack no more than 3 on each category (example: Footwear…Shoes, sneakers and shower shoes. 3 quick dry underwear. 3 socks…1 long socker athletic socks for compression, 1 mid length and 1 no shoe socks). I carry a backpacker sawyer mini water purifier. This is a lifesaver, especially when I arrive to a town too late and all stores are closed to buy bottled water. I used to carry 5 iodine tablets, but they have expiration dates.
Love your rules. We are pretty sure we could get down to less clothes, but our white "Retirement Travelers" shirts tend to get discolored and we like nice ones to film with. Happy journeys and thanks for following along, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
So enjoyed watching this❤My husband and I retired about a year and half ago and we had plans to travel to Asia for 6 months in April this year. Sadly he passed in January. I am still grieving over his loss but I will continue our dreams eventually.
So sorry to hear about your husband. That really breaks our heart. We think he would want you to get out there and still see Asia. Many blessings to you, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
16:55 I have a drybag and use it as clothes washing machine at my destination in the tub or shower space. Less messy than washing in the sink. It can also serve as an extra-large ice bucket.
Nice! I recently completed superbowl on the new Icon Of The Seas. It’s my 60th cruise. I’m preparing to visit Schengen countries to add to my short list of countries I visited so far. I completed my U.S. military career relatively young age and I’ve been traveling. Recently sold my last rental property near The Master's in Augusta GA, and I'll resume traveling full-time again. I’m inspired by y’all, and hope to run into y’all one day. I also enjoy walking and wondering around countries that I visit. I bring my U.S. Army mess dress and wear them on cruises during formal nights to honor veterans and measurement tool for me. If button starts to bust, it’s time to stop going the buffet haha. I have lower back issues and it helps lower the pain when I maintain a good weight. Again, thank you!
When I was a Flight Attendant a man demanded that I store his bag in the overhead… I was pregnant and stuck out my tummy and the other men sitting around him shamed him. My career was cut short hurting my back storing a heavy bag in the overhead. Great tips as usual and I thank you for being so generous to share them with us. Cheers! 👍
Thanks for sharing your story. Sorry to hear about your injury. Thanks for following along with us. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
It is my understanding that flight attendants’ job is our safety and stowing a passenger’s baggage does not fall under safety requirements. There are plenty of able bodied people to help those that can not help themselves. I have NEVER felt it a flight attendant’s duty to stow my luggage. If that is required, maybe this man should have paid the fee to check his baggage.
The reason why Australia and other countries have 7-10kg weight limits for carry on -as annoying as it is - is actually to protect flight attendants from back injuries. It’s something that unions enforced for work health and safety.
Another great video thank you, we always place a hand towel or some smaller clothing (sock etc) over all the lights that seem so bright in some hotel rooms 👍
Hi! I’m a 24 year old student and have just started a part-time job to be able to finance my travels. I’ve watched many of your videos in the last few days and I’m very grateful for the tips, tricks and your experience reports. Thank you! I wish you all the best on your travels in 2024.
Love your videos. We realized that we needed a different approach than big roller bags when we are moving through multiple locations on a trip. We did 6 countries in 4 weeks, and many places only had multiple staircases between locations(Train stations, subways, airports, and our favorite a water taxi strike on the day we arrived in Venice😂). What a learning curve it was, and apologizing to anyone who dared to help with our bags. Traveling through multiple seasons was our hardest, and this was our second time going from winter to tropical and back again. It was hard to reduce packing, but we came home and vowed to do better. I spent good amounts of money on wicking pants for me, as well as shorts. We have to still get new sneakers before our next trip, but we will do smaller backpacks and a carry on. We are excited to get back on the road again, but with a more restricted income we spend our summers at home in the glorious great lake state, gardening, boating, and enjoying our beautiful weather. We won't give up the security of our small home that we made possible to age in place. We will travel as often as affordable and we love every trip we take. Keep inspiring us on new locations.
Thanks so much for following along with us. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Do try out some Hokas. They are expensive, but so comfortable! Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
@@RetirementTravelersYou are doing a great job at the goal. I was a little surprised that you don't use any of the vacuum pack / squeeze the air out compression stuff, but I guess with the pack optimized mass to the space, getting rid of the small amount of residual air would not be of any great benefit?
I tried using a backpack after watching your videos but found I felt off balance alot so I have changed to a roller bag and feel more comfortable. I only use a carry on size bag and I love it.
Excellent advice in this video! Thank you for sharing your experience. I’ll share something from mine: the easiest way to carry electrical tape to cover those annoying LED lights in hotel rooms is to cut about 10 strips, each about 1.5 inches. Fold over one end about 1/4 inch to serve as a grab tab, then mount all of the strips onto a plastic card, like an old credit or membership card. Don’t put the strips on top of each other, as electrical tape sticks most strongly to itself. The card is easily carried in a tech or toiletry bag, and the strips are reusable. Just stick them back on the card and take it to the next destination.
We are also long term retired travelers but with rolling carry ons, and haven’t yet evolved to backpacks. We’ve been traveling over 40 years. Light and fast is our mantra. Tips: I wear a tsa friendly men’s nylon security belt that has space for document copies, some meds, and safety tools. We love our 100% cotton sarongs for a towel, a wrap, a cover and more. Never leave home without them. Let someone else cay your extra weight. Ex. In lieu of heavy camera equipment I befriend someone who has a telephoto etc. and ask them to share photos. They always do. You’ll want to try this for animal pics in Africa. A Nikon with a 500mm lens (heavy) takes amazing animal photos in the right hands…someone else’s! Happy travels!
I took the Nikon when we went to Africa. I certainly took some wonderful pictures. Since we were riding most of that tome it didn’t seem too heavy. I am an elderly female.
You guy are THE BEST! We’ve had a family member illness that has brought us back to CA longer than expected (writing this from the surgery waiting room). We are SO anxious to get traveling again. This family illness only cements our decision to travel…life is short and nobody gets out alive, so keep on keeping on!👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks so much. Sorry to hear about your family member illness. LIfe is so short. Happy journeys and many blessings in 2024, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
I’m so glad we’re all on the same page! You kids “ROCK !!” 😂 Seriously … you’re awesome people, thanks always for sharing your ideas and positive mental attitudes, you’re “loved”
Hi J&B, we do a number of o/s trips and cruises every year, we've been doing the "Backpack only" thing for all travel since our 6 months throughout South America trip in 2008 where traveling light was essential, (lots of hiking). It's just so liberating, we still see folk constantly struggling with such heavy luggage you wonder how they ever cope. Domestic airlines here in Australia only allow 7kg carry on unless you pay extra or book Business, so it's become a "norm" to pack light, (yes even for cruises). Just like a lot of things in life you don't need all the "stuff". Thankyou for your informative videos and happy travel.
I just bought my first pair of Hoka shoes in SC. I want to give a shout out to REI. The employee spent a whole hour measuring my feet and getting me the best pair of shoes. They even have a steep rock you can climb on to see how they feel coming downhill on uneven surfaces. I then went next door to New Balance and stood on their computerized foot measurement pad. They fit me with the best insoles to go in the Hokas. Thanks for the recommendation! Europe here I come!!
Wonderful. Have a great trip. Actually, you will be going on 4 "one week" trips. 🤣 Here is a link to our packing list. retirementtravelers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Retirement-Travelers-Packing-List-2024.pdf John and Bev
Great video. Instead of mosquito spray, i use CoreTex Bug X 30 Mosquito, Tick, & Insect Repellent Wipes with 30% DEET. When I went to India for work, my company gave me all the shots and a medical kit that included these wipes. Super easy to carry and it can't leak in transit. Did you guys use the malaria meds? I tried, but gave them up after a few days. I was told if you're staying more than two weeks you should not take the meds.
Great information. I've always traveled frequently and have started traveling much more since I retired at 53. My prior company was Tender Corporation which actually made Ben's Tick and Insect Repellent so I appreciate the choice you made in your repellents. They have wipes also and we tend to carry the wipes everywhere we travel, but will be carrying bottles when we go to Africa (and possibly India). Adventure Medical Kits make a card inside their World Travel series and that card can be used to talk to a medical professional who doesn't speak your language. I carry the card, but not the larger kit (although I'm not sure you can purchase the card on its own).
Thanks so much. Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for sharing the info on the wipes and Adventure Medical Kits. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
I wear a Paula’s Choice tinted SPF - two for the weight of one! 😂 Seriously, I like the tinted ones since they’re often not so greasy and don’t sting my eyes if I sweat, guessing because they’re developed for the face.
Our daughter has our snorkel masks and we left our puffer jackets with her on our last leg. On our next leg, we're traveling with our jackets again because we'll be traveling to some cool weather locations. In this leg, we're leaving some of our shorts with our daughter. We've been traveling for three years, and we are very picky about what we take. Weight is everything when you walk with everything on your back for a couple of miles at a time. John & Bev
Hi, very helpful video. Those red lights are so bothersome in hotels. I bring a pad of black post it notes. They cover the light and are easy to remove.
Another pro for backpacks - we were on a short flight in Europe and my husband and son had backpacks and I had a roller bag smaller than the backpacks. I was forced to check my bag but they were allowed to carry theirs onboard.
Huge 👍 on Ben’s !! I’ve never had a tick and I hike/camp a ton here in the southeast US where ticks will freaking latch onto a fence post! 😂 I use their DEET, so I apply at the last possible minute and wash off as soon as I’m back inside, but it’s still better than a disease-carrying tick. This is a great round-up! Thanks for all the tips! (PS Bev - the reason people ask about makeup is because you have such pretty skin that they think you’re wearing foundation and blush 😉)
Totally efficient packing..but the whole travel plan is tight with minimal chaos. I can do a lighter carryon because of my bad back which is workable for a weekend. Gotta go smaller roller if longer. Is what it is. You do the best you can. Safe travels!
I’m really addicted to your channel. Thank you for all your videos. This isn’t a packing question but I’m wonder if you ever worry about safety? How do you protect yourselves? Thank you.
So glad you are enjoying our channel and website. We worried more several years ago, but as we have traveled more and more, our worries are less and less. We don't go to bad areas in cities, rarely go out at night, don't wear expensive jewelry, etc. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
You two are so wonderful and my husband and I so appreciate your tips and experiences! I take notes when I watch your channel. Thank you for giving so much to the travel community! We are selling nearly everything we own as well to travel the world full time, and whittling it all down to a backpack and a rolling bag (I know I’ll ditch the rolling bag in the future, but I’m not ready to part with my pillows, makeup, and perfumes yet :) You are both so inspirational!
Great advice re travelling light. Usually I do but made the big mistake of taking a roll suitcase to Europe and having to lift and lug it into trains and roll on cobbles was terrible. Learnt my lesson!
😳👍 My gosh, y'all really PACKED a lot into this super-awesome & helpful video, thanks a bunch!! Will be hitting your store for some of this, good stuff 🏆🙌
Thank you for another fabulous video. All of your recommendations are spot on! I have one question…. What do you do with the items you decide to “ditch”… ie… suitcases, etc.? I can’t wait for the next Travel School video
We have sent some to charity, given to our children, or literally "ditched" them like we did our suitcase and some other items in Italy. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
More great re-enforcing ideas. If you were a solo, a few years older than yourselves, not doing a youtube channel (so only iPhone, kindle, and iPad) that you could travel in a 30 liter pack? The older I get, the less I want to carry. Thanks and will be in Africa in April.
I always watch packing videos. Even though what you pack is different from what I pack, there is always a tip that will be useful like your TSA experiences. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your recommendations and experiences. I think you'll do well with using your iPhone, they're great, weigh less and one less thing to take and worry about. Happy and safe travels ❤Zeljka
Thanks for following along with us. So far, we are loving the decision. The Iphone 15 is amazing. Happy Journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Thanks for sharing! Great ideas. Your dry bag can double as a small “washing machine”. I add a litter of water, tiny TINY bit of detergent, and a few garments then shake and let soak 5min, shake again, dump and rinse a few times then DONE!!
Just a tip for medications when traveling. I had a headache while in Barcelona and found out that Tylenol does not exist there. In both Spain and Germany, you have to first see a pharmacist before you can get medications
After watching this video and doing some more research we purchased a Fairview and Fairpoint backpack. They really seem to be the best option. We look forward to your videos,. Thank you
Great. We love our packs. Thanks for following along with us and glad you are enjoying our channel. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Totally concur about preferring backpacks for being agile. I loathe dragging stuff as well. I carry a Porter 46 and love it but have been considering the Farpoint :)
Backpacks are the only way to go for us. We are happy with the design changes Osprey made with the 55L. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com
This video gave me a nightmare. I couldn't find a proper bag, proper shoes, proper clothes. I woke up sweating and in a state of anxiety! 😂 I'm going to go through every inch of my belongings and cut out, throw out everything that is not of immediate use! 😩
Here is our packing list. Perhaps it will allow you to get some sleep. 🤣 retirementtravelers.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Retirement-Travelers-Packing-List-2024.pdf John and Bev
I’ve had it with stuff. My goal is 7kg total but absolutely 7kg not including the laptop (which I can take out as the personal item). I’m at 7.5kg including the laptop at the moment.
Great advice! Thank you! I'm 70, and I ditched my rolling carry-on for an Osprey pack after hearing Rick Steves speak. I love the freedom it gives me. Sadly, I think many who bemoan packs have never had a good one, and they have convinced themselves to be unhappy with all packs. What's that expression? ... Haters gonna hate.
I’m going the opposite direction. I am a 72yo male and used my Waypoint 80 (2014 model-That includes the day bag which I think is 15 that I carried detached) for six weeks traveling Europe in Autumn 23 doing rail travel. I have lower back problems and this was problematic. I’m headed back to Europe next week and taking my Level8 26” bag. I’m doing rail travel again and hoping for the best. As suggested, I’m still going to try to pack light! Fingers crossed! 💕
My wife and I love your videos. We are definitely using your knowledge to help us prep for our future travels. We have a few questions. About the Flight 001 adapter that you use: The adapter allows you to plug in your extension cord, however, it does not mange voltage. Do you use a converter also? About Anker 747--is it 150W? Again, thank you so much for your expertise!! Bill and Jennifer
Such fantastic information. I want to point out how useful your tips are even if you aren't travelling around the world. Minimalist travel is the way to go. I agree with you about ditching rolling luggage and my wife agrees with purchasing quality, sometimes expensive products. Together we may eventually come to the correct side. 😁
I haven't packed yet for my trip next week in which I'll visit my 22nd country: Nicaragua! This was a good reminder. Unfortunately, during a recent short trip to Anaheim, I dislocated my shoulder, so I'll have to bring a roller suitcase as I finish recovering. If you have any specific tips for Nicaragua (or Central America as I have not been there yet), let me know!
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. We didn't get to visit Nicaragua yet, but if is anything like Guatemala, it would be very difficult to roll your suitcase in many of the places. Uneven sidewalks, cobblestone streets, etc so keep that in mind. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Haven’t visited Thailand yet? We took our kids to volunteer at an elephant refuge (Discover Corp trip which was awesome), and we’re headed back in Nov for the lantern festival in Chiang Mai. Highly recommend Thailand!
We loved our time in Thailand. Here is our video from last year. Happy Journeys, John and Bev ua-cam.com/video/xsuj_YsuKwM/v-deo.htmlsi=CqMBo_4iwZuw0aK4
Thanks so much. Fortunately, when that happened we were both carrying a power strip. We only carry one now, so it would be bad. 🤞 Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Really helpful. My husband and I are heading to Ushuaia and a cruise up the east coast. Of course, with a cruise you can bring a small, rolling suitcase.
Hi, I just bought Bev‘s bag and I’m going to use it to move to India. I also bought the tripper that you recommended. Thank you so much! Love watching your videos! I’m bringing with me the amount of stuff that y’all have plus some books and a yoga mat. I would like to maximize carry-on, and minimize the number of bags I need to check. I have a second bag that I can use and a purse or I don’t need but I don’t need to use either. What do you recommend? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Binah
Both of our backpacks have a detachable day pack, so that is all we carry. The day pack meets our needs for a personal item, so that's all we carry. Bev began traveling with a cross-body purse, but she changed to a hip pack for days she wants to walk around without a phone in her hand. Hope this helps! John & Bev www.retirementtravelers.com
Great packing tips. I'll check out the new Osprey backpack when I return to the USA. Have you thought about carrying a cord to hang wet clothes from? I agree that Hokas are the very best shoes. Thanks for the guidance. Happy journeys!
We carry a Sea to Summitt mini-clothes line. It works great and is on our Travel Store on our website. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Another great video thank you, we always place a hand towel or some smaller clothing (sock etc) over all the lights that seem so bright in some hotel rooms 👍
13:51 I believe it was Ecuador had a posted rule in the airport “NO tools”. They took my plastic “spork” because it was in the original packaging “eating tool”.
Will begin 3 mo retiree travel in Ausi/NZ in June (winter) so will need my puffer but then headed to Oceania/SEA so will have hot weather (majority of trip). Considering change to backpack but my small intl size roller is so smooth to travel with. Decisions, decisions…
Enjoy your travels and just get out there and see the world. Pack light and do what makes you happy. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
We love you guys! Thanks so much for Travel School. We are retired and starting our overseas travel adventure. Would you consider doing a how to rent a rental car while overseas for a travel school video? We want to go from Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia,, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary. Hoping we can rent a one way rental but I find so many conflicting things about crossing borders, international drivers license. I know you were in Kosovo and wondering if you had trouble getting one and crossing borders. Thanks so much!
Ditto 👍 And may I add that I’m also interested in whether you have an international drivers license, how you maintain a US drivers license without a physical address, and how you deal with rental insurance here in the US when you don’t carry auto insurance anymore since you’ve sold your vehicle. ?? For those of us without a relative where we can fake an address, and gov’t know that the UPS Store PO Box is not a home, how in the heck to have a drivers license? Those of us without a permanent home (or any family to use for fake addresses) are treated as if we’re not even citizens…
Last September we rented a car in Zagreb Croatia and drove through Bosnia, Montenegro and back to Zagreb. It was so much cheaper to return the car to where we rented it than a one way rental. We had an International Drivers licence just in case. Most border crossings were fairly easy and fast, but that was because we didn't cross during the peak tourist season which I believe is horrendous. We paid a surcharge to be allowed to take the car across borders but were not permitted to take the car to Albania.
We think @over60andlivinglife is correct. Renting a car and returning it is the only way we've ever heard of this working in the Balkans. We visited each country in the Balkans in 2022. We hired drivers through MyDayTrip.com and we also took buses. Buses turned out to be a fantastic choice. We took trains in Romania and Bulgaria. When we wanted to drive in a country, we rented a car for the day. John had an international driver's licence, but I think we were only asked about it when we were in Crete, Greece. We travel on Wednesdays for the most part, and the border crossings were good on that day. Your list is wonderful, but also consider Romania and Bulgaria. We loved them, too! Be sure to check out our blogs on our website. We have guides for each of the countries on your list. Thanks for your kind words! Happy Journeys! John & Bev retirementtravelers.com/world-countries/europe-travel-guides
@leapintothewild We get it! It's hard when you feel like the government treats you like you don't matter. They still want you to pay income taxes, right? For us, we use MyRVMail.com. Our address is located in Crestview, Florida. The DMV in Crestview is familiar with RV owners who don't have a home and they allow you to use your MyRVMailing address on your driver's license. As far as insurance, we often buy the policy offered by the insurance company to give us liability coverage. Our credit card offers collision coverage, but not liability and since we don't own a car, we don't have this coverage. We don't rent cars often and so financially, it doesn't make a big impact.
@@RetirementTravelers I can’t thank you enough for this! ❤️ I’ve asked on several other channels and either receive no answer, or to use a friend’s address (so they obvs don’t really read the question). The situation really opened my eyes to yet another horror our homeless face, along with everything else - our own gov’t treats our own citizens as invisible if we don’t have a permanent address, whether by chance or by choice. And once I sell my house and car, I will be (gleefully) homeless. As a hiker and camper I knew about some RV workarounds, but thought it had to be another sneaky solution - nice to know some places might actually try to work with you to solve the problem! Texas and S Dakota often come up, but didn’t know Florida was an option. That seems better logistically since Miami would be such a conveniently placed airport for international travel. Anyhoo, sincerely THANK YOU !!
Excellent video packed with ideas and products I will purchase and begin using asap. You both have become expert travelers and you present this content so beautifully. A+ Bev and John. ❤
Awesome! Thank you for the kind words. So glad you are enjoying our channel and website. Thanks for following along with us. Happy Journeys and many blessings in 2024. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
I know it would be a ton of work, but it may pay off to do an Amazon list of what you pack. It might be cheaper someplace else, but it would give us a more comprehensive list. You shared the names of products you use. I am scribbling like crazy. Those golf pants and TSA belt…. It would be nice if you got an Amazon kick back.
Most of our products are on our website! Here is the link to our travel store. retirementtravelers.com/retirement-travelers-store-best-travel-products Happy journeys, John and Bev
Great tips for packing and making sure you are taking what you absolutely need. I have seen too many people with carry on roller suitcases that can't fit in the overhead because the sides are bulging from too much stuff. Have you considered ditching 1 of your laptops and get an iPad Pro instead, since you can use a wireless keyboard with it? Understood you still need a laptop for the type of photo and video editing you do. It is also important for people to make sure to not under pack. If you are going on a big hiking adventure, you need to take the appropriate layers of clothing to be prepared and safe for the unknowns. Safe travels! --M
Thanks for following along with us. We used to carry one iPad and a computer, but there were too many limitations with the iPad that caused us issues. Trying to do both a website and UA-cam channel is a big commitment in technology. Happy Journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Hi thx huge for your tips. I wl be travelling(on a budget ) in a few years time. My question is : how can I make sure I hv the things in need when I may need to travel from South Asia to Europe when the weather can be very different? Shall I only purchase the clothings @ when I arrive a new place ? 🙏🙏🙏
The key is to think of your wardrobe as pieces that fit together to form a whole. Learn about layering and don't pack ANYTHING that you just don't need. Pack for a week. Here's another packing video that you might like. ua-cam.com/video/zNRP9Eo1hWI/v-deo.html John & Bev
Hi John and Bev. I love watching your videos and hope to embark on some extended traveling adventures in few years time. You are very inspiring. A quick tip about South Africa and neighboring countries- they use a three pin round plug, and the adapter is not in the standard set. You’ve probably worked this out already! Keep up the great videos and safe travels!
Thanks so much for the heads up. We will check. We believed that South Africa and India use the same plug, and we've had no problems in India the past month. So glad you are enjoying our channel and website. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Hi, just found your channel and subscribed. I endeavor to pack lighter and you have great tips. Thanks for being so down-to-earth and making me think more outside the box! My husband and I retired to Ecuador from the US and I'd never even heard of slow traveling, where have I been? 😂 Looking forward to all your videos, happy travels!
Thanks for the video and packing tips as we have started to do more international travel. What shoes do you wear when it is raining? I'm trying to reduce our packing list and find the right combination of travel shoes.
Thank you Bev for talking makeup. I worry about how to pack my various skincare products (not over-the-counter items) while traveling carry on. I can decant everything for shorter trips but wonder how I will replenish for longer stays. Any advice?
Better brands are everywhere. Many drug stores around the world sell name brand high end lines of cleaners and moisturizers. We’ve seen Sephora everywhere, too. Getting quality items is not an issue. You might Google your brand along with the country and see if you get any hits, but even in low cost countries we see many great brands. Bev
Also, if google doesn't produce results you can contact the company directly for info. The only product I "have" to have no matter what is Moroccanoil for my curly hair, so I emailed their cust service asking where to get it in certain countries and they answered within a few days with store names and cities.
@@leapintothewild thank you for that suggestion. I really love my Obagi skincare products. I am ready to divest myself of everything but I am finding that might be the one exception.
We hope you enjoy our updated packing video for Travel School and it gives you some ideas to make your travel even better. Many of the products we use are on our Retirement Travelers Store, so check those out.

My husband and I chose to drive our cars until they had about 250,000 miles on them.

Sounds like you had a great life together. I’m so sorry it was cut short. I hope you’re still living YOUR life to the fullest!
Awesome suggestions. Thanks for sharing.

16:55 I have a drybag and use it as clothes washing machine at my destination in the tub or shower space. Less messy than washing in the sink. It can also serve as an extra-large ice bucket.
That's what I do when camping -- have even used it to soak my feet after a long hike!
Can I buy a dry bag on amazon?
So cool to see Superbowl on the Icon. Enjoy your travels and perhaps our paths will meet someday.

Cheers! 👍

41 year Flight Attendant here and the way I made it this far by looking at the people saying put this in the OH Bin, and I say NO. Period.

Thanks for sharing. Great tip.

@@RetirementTravelers I use post it note pages. Reusable also.

Packing light is definitely the way to go. Thanks for the tip on domestic airlines in Australia.

I wear a Paula’s Choice tinted SPF - two for the weight of one! 😂 Seriously, I like the tinted ones since they’re often not so greasy and don’t sting my eyes if I sweat, guessing because they’re developed for the face.
@leapintothewild I love the Paula's choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30.
What do you do with your clothing, etc. that you are not currently traveling with? Where is that snorkel today as well as your more wintery clothing?
Our daughter has our snorkel masks and we left our puffer jackets with her on our last leg. On our next leg, we're traveling with our jackets again because we'll be traveling to some cool weather locations. In this leg, we're leaving some of our shorts with our daughter. We've been traveling for three years, and we are very picky about what we take. Weight is everything when you walk with everything on your back for a couple of miles at a time. John & Bev

Thank you!!!

Another great video thank you, we always place a hand towel or some smaller clothing (sock etc) over all the lights that seem so bright in some hotel rooms 👍
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.

13:51 I believe it was Ecuador had a posted rule in the airport “NO tools”. They took my plastic “spork” because it was in the original packaging “eating tool”.
Who knew sporks and and tiny allen wrenches were so dangerous. 🤣

Excellent. Thank you. Just trying to see how to make the move from roller bags to a backpack, which will mean taking less. Which should be doable.
Glad it was helpful! We love our Osprey packs and hope we can carry them for a long time.
