I can’t believe someone asked to lower a price that much! 🙈 That happened to me at a market that was definitely not one where people were supposed to barter prices. I made some super cute granny square crop tops for a “hippie fest” market and I had a young girl and both of her parents come up separately asking if I could lower it from $65 to $30-$40 and I kept telling them no. The mom even asked if she bought another small item from me, would I take a certain amount for both and I again told her “I’m sorry, but my prices are fixed in order to reflect the time I’ve put into hand making these tops.” They eventually came back a paid full price 🤷🏼♀️ Don’t devalue your work!! Thank you for sharing your experiences (both good and bad) with us!

I wouldn’t take it personally. At antique shows bartering is fairly normal but I agree at craft shows are more fixed

I just absolutely adore you! I had my first ever show this weekend, and watched so many of your videos for help. I had a very successful first craft show, but also had one rude encounter with someone who didn’t like my price of one of my items. And I almost cried but I held it together and I’m glad I didn’t let the one person ruin my day because I met so many wonderful people and had great sales. Thank you for your videos! You are so encouraging, inspirational, and great at marketing. Crocheting helps me so my with anxiety and I was nervous to start shows / a small biz with it because of my anxiety, but you helped give me the confidence!

I have been doing craft shows for a few years. I have totally encountered the rude customer, as well as the 'I can do that' customer, and the customer that always buys your stuff (usually my mother-in-law). My biggest issue for me is that I have so many items that I sell. I like a pattern, I make a handful of products, then I move on to the next one. It doesn't help that I have ADOS too (attention deficit ooo shiny!). Thank you for your encouragement and motivation for me to keep on keepin' on!
It's definitely hard for me to avoid that pattern of making a few of something cool and then just moving on! There's always so many things I want to try! 😂 Thanks for sharing and thanks for hanging out! :)
This is a really valuable video. Your positive attitude is so refreshing and really does go a long way. It's so hard when people make comments on price but are willing to go to shops and pay much more for label goods that's mass produced. Your stuff is amazing and I love that you spend so much time and energy helping others like this. Great job 👏 👍

I would love for you to do a video on Square! I'm grateful you told us how you dealt with that negative experience. It is easy to feel guilted into lowering your prices, but as another crocheter said, a lot of time goes into making these products. It's not like it's getting popped off of a machine in 2 minutes.

I love the way how everything was set up. It did not look like you had low inventory. Good job I am going to start doing pop-ups. I do have a online store, but I am really searching for the connection in the interaction with the customer and getting my brand out there more II am learning everything that I can I love all of your information that you give to us I have been crocheting for a long time and I will be retiring, so I am really focusing on the passion that I love to make it a business. I think it's also important to remember that some cultures are much more accustomed to bartering than we are. People attempting to barter might not be intentionally trying to be rude or insulting. They were just raised to do it. Doesn't mean you should be open to bartering. Keep prices firm. I'm just hoping that helps it feel less negative for you.

Love this video. I am so happy I am not the only one feeling the same way before an event! How much do you sell your baby beanies? I go by how many pompoms are added to the beanies. My baby beanies start out at 20$ as a regular and then go up 6$ per Pom. Does that work for you also? Thank you again for the Scrunchie pattern, it has become a best seller for me also. Wish we could do an event together!
Oh my gosh an event together would be so fun!!!❤️ My baby beanies start at $25 but I don’t charge additional for each pom! I just keep them the same price for one or two poms :)

Hello!! I just binged watched all your videos. I think all the information you're putting out there is really beneficial. Some videos on UA-cam have become repetitive. I even stopped your video to make a tag with you from your DIY tag video. As a newbie I would love to have a video where you explain your spreadsheet, skw# process, and especially your Square items. I have a question
I’m thinking about adding more items aside from crochet to my business. It’s currently crocheted items along with beaded ones. I want to add more like faux fur ears/tails and maybe cat toys. I’m just not sure if it would be too much variety of mediums to add or not. And possibly other things including art/art commissions, stickers, and pins.
Hey there! I totally encourage you to pursue different crafts you're interested in! I will say, though, that you might not want to mix too many types of crafts/arts together in a display if they aren't aesthetically/thematically connected. If you're wanting to bring two or three different fields of products (e.g. crochet, fur items, and art & commissions) I would suggest you clearly separate them into sections on your display. You might also want to consider increasing the sizer of your display to accommodate that! Even if everything is thematically the same, you still want to group them with like items!
TLDR; The more different types of items are, the more separated they should be!

I want to start a crochet business and your videos are so encouraging. I use just acrylic yarn do you use bulky yarn for everything? And do you have the patterns for the beanies or headbands and how do you know what to charge

It's so funny that I came across this video because a good friend of mine told me once, "Hey since I gave you a ride, you can make me a raccoon for free." She then showed me a picture of an amigurumi that was the size of a toddler. I told I could make it and sell it to her for about $80-$100. She looked at me like I was ridiculous!

Thank you so much for the kind words! The most effective method of market discovery is word-of-mouth from other vendors. I realize, though, this doesn't really help you find your first one! I would recommend a quick Google search of nearby markets, or even exploring around your area on a nice day to see if there are any lots with people set up in! Also, many markets and vendors set up Facebook groups, so looking around their is a good idea, too!

It is funny how people ask to lower prices. If the shoe was on the other foot, they'd be totally offended. I would have said something like, if you buy 2 of the $45 hats, I can give you $5 off.
You make a really good point! Often, it's a matter of perspective, and people usually don't see it from the other side because they've never sold stuff like we do!
