I award you no points for that speech, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I think that the caller isn't very well spoken, but he's trying to say that Kamala's campaign is doing a poor job of countering Trump's fake "change" aesthetic that he puts on. His suggestion isn't really possible though. I don't think that Kamala can advertise herself as a major change candidate unless she mentions her gender, which is a bad idea. Like Sam pointed out, it's too late for that kind of marketing.
With that being said, the caller does have a point. Kamala's campaign should be doing the exact same thing Trump does, the fact that he's constantly trying to make it seem like she's currently in power and had the ability to turn the US into a paradise these past 4 years. Kamala should be hammering down the fact that Trump already had the ability to "fix" the problems of the US and he failed spectacularly. I only heard her mention that he was fired once in the debate. She should be using that line over and over again to remind people that he already was the president.
You can't allow the moron to run as the change candidate in 2016, then run as the radical change candidate again in 2024 when he's now the leader of one of the major parties.
That is the only thing this guy blabbered on about that really made any sense. Kamala is hitting Trump where it hurts in pretty much every way but that one, and I think that's a big oversight. She should definitely be harping on the fact he's been a major force in the Republican party since 2015 and has been the leader of the party since 2016. He had a full conservative government for two years until he lost Congress and he got nothing done. He even stacked the courts and the only thing he got done after that was taking away human rights. His do-nothing conservative lackeys have killed most of what Biden has tried to get done, and even hamstrung as he's been, Biden's still done more for the people than Trump has in his lifetime. Even while not in office, Trump has done everything he could to sabotage even things his followers DO want, like the border bill. In 10 years, he has done nothing. In 4 years, she was part of an administration that has kept the US above most other countries economically despite Trump's failings during COVID. There is so much substance there that they could be pushing.
I agree. People are being disproportionately cruel about the caller and it helps nobody. Getting one's point accross in a single sentense is not what you are in for in a phd program, ffs.
@demonseed360 Kamala is an AIPAC bought war monger. I can't believe how gullible people are. Read Hanna Arendts writings on "lesser evils." It's a well documented fascist tool. Both evils end up in the same place. It's an illusion of choice. A win/win for the power behind the curtain.
Well, she could (at the *very* least) campaign on the things that were most popular across the board - including with conservative voters - in 2020, 2016 & now!
You know.. healthcare for all, housing for all, nutrition for all, education for all.. That kind of s***.
The problem is that we no longer have representation in the House or Senate in the numbers we used to. They recognize this & see it as we don't have power, so they will ignore us as long as they can.
This is why - *GENERAL STRIKE 2028!*

Trump likes to portray himself as a change candidate.
You guys entertained this guy's meandering and incoherent call for WAY too long. I still don't understand what, if any, point he was trying to make.
good lord... he will make a great phd.... nothing to say
That guy's not passing his quals.
He's saying "I, along with a lot of other progressives, have finally come to terms with the fact the country doesn't want a radical progressive president.... but, why isn't she running as a radical progressive"
Maybe actually listen with your brain and not just your ears, get past his nervousness and lack of preparedness
He’s stating the fact that Kamala’s only shot to win is to run to the far left! Young voters and sane people would rally for her and knock on every door! The energy would be through the roof… that’s why Walz was such a popular choice until she neutered him! Progressives hate Israel!
You can't present yourself as "The anti-establishment" while being the no.2 person in the government.
Anyone who calls the vice presidency the no.2 position in the government, greatly over states the role of the VP.
Trump has recently started to present himself as anti-billionaire, despite being a... oh, wait, nevermind. Debtor Don can carry on.
Yeah you can
You can. Billionaire, ex-president Trump and richest guy in the world who owns big tech Musk’s present themselves as anti establishment. Because it's all about vibe, nothing real.
Harris has overtaken Trump as the change candidate. Anti-establishment is one of these vacuous terms that people think means something when it really doesn't. Harris is going to raise the minimum wage, secure the border, expand healthcare, strengthen unions, expand housing and bring down rents, codify Roe, etc. Voters overwhelmingly support these concrete policy changes. What change is Trump offering? Embracing Nazism and dictatorship?
If both sides are anti-establishment, doesn't that make them both the actual establishment? 🤔
"And when everyone's super no one will be." - Syndrome
Politics is not marriage. It's a bus trip. You don't wait until you find a bus going to your exact destination. You catch the one going the closest.
and realize that whichever side has the most tickets picks the next stop
This is probably one of the best ways I've heard it described. We aren't going to get a progressive president by waiting for a president who holds every idea or plan we want; we get there in baby steps. We could have started that trip in the '80s and been there by now, but instead, people have to constantly eat their own if it's not perfectly in line with them. The right-wing wins because they go for any candidate that hits any one of their big complaints.
@@jmajick4415 Unfortunately not true.
Ask Kyrsten Sinema's constituents. Or John Fetterman's.
The problem with representative democracy is that, once a candidate gets elected, the voters lose all leverage over the candidate, save the possibility of reelection. If a candidate decides they are going to do stuff and leave there's absolutely no reign at all.
any government can't be run in the style of entertainment nor styled in pro-wrestling and school playground bully and liar's rules and etiquette
He might be a Ph.D. candidate but he hasn't lived long enough to have the edges worn down a bit. Stop being 18, my-guy.
You didn't listen to what he said. He's asking why Kamala isn't countering Trumps lies about being the a ti establishment character.
She also shouldn't be hiding Tim waltz
That guy is not nearly as popular as he should be right now if she used him correctly
I think he's overshadowing her personally. She needed to take the spotlight, even if she doesn't wear it as well
I'm voting for my President, Tim will be fine even if he does nothing but sit on the sidelines. Harris/Walz because we're not NUTS!
@@nmh11 I hope that's true
I get 90% of my info from shows like this and they're mostly covering Trump. Can't recall the last time they did a video featuring Walz. But they seem to forget just how deeply unpopular she was just 4 years ago. She needed to drop out before the first primary despite the fact she annihilated Biden in the first debate, which did knock him out of contention. Bernie was cruising to a landslide then Obama stepped in and she became VP.
All of her political wins, so to speak, are artificial and Trump could win this.
But if for arguments sake, he were going head to head with Trump, Americans would choose Walz.
Hopefully this vp debate puts him at the forefront for media coverage
From the Democrats perspective: Why give away the farm when you can win by as little as possible and keep your donors happy?
Thats why the general election is barely the tip of the work needed to be done. Its real purpose is to minimize GOP harm by keeping them from power.
But the effort to push the Dems leftward is much more than just voting in November.
It's sick, but true.
From a realistic prospective: it's pretty goddamn obvious the country, you know, the people that elect the president, does not want a radical progressive president, they might let a radical right wing psychopath in, but hey, who cares about reality
There's also the fact that the progressive left is never happy. They hate progress on an issue.
It isn't about keeping the donors happy. It's about keeping the majority happy, namely the independents and moderates upon whom every election hinges. Unless we find a way to get rid of the electoral college, the moderates and independents are required to win. Period. Spook them and you're cooked.
Americans PHD = EU 8TH grade
this is comical, sad and frightening.
For real.
This caller is soo mistaken 😂. His supporters support him for one reason. Hes out there racist.
How is he racist
?
@dr.wolfstar1765
The "he" here is Trump, not the caller. Hope that clears things up.
Every racist is a Trump supporter, but not every Trump supporter is a racist. Saying shit like that is why it’s so difficult to bring Trump people back to sanity once they start to get fed up with his shit
You're half right. Im an Ex-Trump supporter and i can tell u that, yes, a significant portion of his base is racist, but they aren't enough to push him over the finish line. A big portion of his base is uneducated voters. This is what i was when i voted for him, and alot of his base is still his base BECAUSE they dont watch the news, like, at all. They're going off of social media and adult comedy shows.
Maybe...1/3rd of his base is racist, and they're the ones who are mad about his distancing himself from project 2025 and wont vote for Kamala because she's black and married to a Jew.
1/3rd of it is Christian Nationalists, who arent technically "racist", but ARE theistic Fascists. These are the people who think Democrats are transing the kids, and are mad at Trump because he's backing down on a federal abortion ban.
Then, you got the last 1/3rd who are uneducated voters. These are the people who THINK they're educated because they get their info from Alex Jones and Tim Pool and Steven Crowder and Fox News and they believe in every conspiracy under the sun; the "Dunning Kruger Voters" if you will.

@@schadenfreude3236 but how do you know he doesn't have that ability from a call on the show? People have different skill sets and ways of communicating.
Holy shit you are literally identical to MAGA
Being anti-establishment doesn't resonate like it did in 2016.
It’s also stupid. That is what leads to an erosion of trust in institutions-which populism inherently requires-then we sit around and wonder why democracy is crumbling. We need standard politicians. That’s the fucking job. I don’t want a leader who talks like your average Joe.
Being anti establishment does resonate, but it was always laughable coming from Trump: who spent his life alongside his rich friends bending the laws and buying the government. It's like listening to the fox tell the hens to vote for a "revolutionary change that wont let hens get eaten" then he gets elected and start gorging himself on hens.
He doesn't have that anti establishment, underdog outside advantage anymore. He was president for 4 years and he was terrible.
People would rather that, from the left... for once. Right-wing populism is really empty and Trump/Vance has shown it.
I think a lot of her appeal comes from her seeming more competent and able to provide stability and security. She has some policies that offer solutions to current problems too though, various tax credits for housing, starting a business, and raising a family.
I agree with the caller. They are always crying, “anti-establishment this & that!” It wouldn’t hurt.

This was Ronald Raygun's least funny bit yet. 😀
This caller was a total waste of time. He brought up pre-debate polls to assert the idea that Kamala is being too safe by going to the middle, and needs to be more progressive, despite the fact that she was significantly MORE progressive before the debate.
I firmly disagree with his assessment that she is being too moderate for TWO reasons.
#1) This election is a battle for the moderate/undecided vote. Like it or not she HAS to appear moderate to win.
#2) she ALREADY HAS the progressive vote. She literally has nothing to lose by being moderate. What are ya gonna do? Let Trump win by staying home because you're not getting a policy you weren't gonna get before anyway? Even if promises go unfullfilled, Its not as if things are actively being taken away, like under Trump. C'mon man!
Undecided , some folks don't follow her isrl bs so yeah she should do something for them
I hope I never become as jaded and cynical as you are.
No it’s not! Moderate policies never win… Biden was extremely progressive on Immigration when he campaigned… watch the debates… he delivered nothing but he ran with a progressive message! If she were to denounce Israel and run to the left she would trounce Trump!

Trump has been around for almost 10 years. What change is he talking about?
Wow. Sam gets a lot of callers who say "my question is" and then proceed to tell a story. I'm fascinated by how common that is.
I guarantee this PhD candidate can't sign his own name.
I had a dream last night that Donald Trump won the election and Kamala Harris blamed Diddy. 😅
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzuuugghhhmmmffffpp. I think I dozed off.
Yeah, we could tell you're a PhD candidate lol
I'd love to see Kamala Harris take more progressive positions, but at the end of the day I have to remind myself that people like us on the left are actually a minority in the Democratic party and the majority is centrist on most positions and even somewhat right on a few others. Kamla is not perfect, but she's a whole lot better than the alternative right now.
This has become the Rebublican Light party. They embraced every wayward RINO and moved everything to the right. What we are calling moderate...is right. It's so clear to me. There is nowhere for the left right now. We have to create a viable third party. We were successfully hijacked in a silent coup by the Corporate Elite.
The "lesser evil" is the wrong way to go. It's an effective fascist tool, according to Hannah Arendt. It's a win-win for the power behind the curtain. It's the illusion of choice. Both choices lead to the same source in the end.
@@rezrunnercl I don't care about Hannah Arendt and "the power behind the curtain" is meaningless unless you tell us who you think that is.
@@RancorousSea Hint: They mean Jews.
@@rezrunnercl - Except no. In the real world, which clearly is not where you are residing, progress is made in steps. You will never EVER find a candidate who matches what you want perfectly and has any chance of winning a general election. This caller is not a good strategist lol😂
Mark Cuban did Adin Ross for her. It was perfect!
So this is what a PhD sounds like?
People that call should get out there and work.
"Populist" and "anti-establishment" are not synonymous. Trump really is a malignant, oligarchic version of the latter but is not any reasonable or recognized version of the former.
Let me tell you, this comment is so wrong. It’s unbelievable. "Populist," "anti-establishment," I know them better than anyone. Nobody has been more anti-establishment than me. The people love me, because I’m for them, not the elites. And oligarchic? Give me a break. I’ve given up so much, folks, so much for the people. They don’t know what they’re talking about. Ask anyone-they’ll tell you. I'm the most recognized populist, believe me!
Also they are just one form that discontent with the government can take, people respond to the idea someone is looking out for their interests and it can be all sorts of things depending on the context. This election I don't "They're eating the dogs, they're the cats. They're eating... the pets" is going to resonate with people in that way.
Leftists shouldn't uphold populism as such.
I hear this all the time--leftists saying Trump isn't a populist. No he is--he's a right-wing populist.
Leftists are anti-capitalist. We don't pander to the people when they're being small-minded or stupid or their
brains are full of goofy ideas however "progressive" they may seem.
Is it November 5th yet. Good Lord!
I had the same expression as Sam at 1:00
"if a political candidate would simply adopt all of *my* preferred policy positions and framing of issues they would be guaranteed to win"
everyone thinks this
Yep. And because some won't accept any less than perfect, they will never vote, keeping progressives from ever holding substantive office for any meaningful amount of time. There's a reason we don't have more Bernies and AOCs in Congress.

I'm working on my MRes and students like this are easy to spot they're so lost I can't imagine how their job searching will go when the ride is over and they have to live like an adult, smh. The one thing Harris needs to change is her lack of principles regarding the genocide in Gaza.
If she hasn't, there's a reason she hasn't. You can't look at politics as an ideologue and hope to be anything less than disappointed. As much as we all wanted to see that resolved the second it started, our choice is a candidate who has waffled due to how much she can and can't say as current VP and undermine the current president, and the guy who has made it clear he's happy to give Israel everything it needs to finish the job.

Must be early in his PhD program. As someone who has gone through the process, this video made me laugh, because you usually spend the first half of grad school trying to make simple ideas sound complex. The second half (and beyond), all of your effort goes into making complex ideas sound simple.
In the VP debate on Tuesday, Walz needs to bash Project 2025, denounce it, poke fun at it and JD Vance will take the bait and defend Project 2025 because he can not help himself. If Walz does this he will bury the Donald candidacy and end his chances.
