    Yes! This same rotation happens in ballet. That’s also how you build a strong back. 😊

    Very well explained and demonstrated. I injured my shoulder going to updog as my upper arm was internally rotated and my elbows winged out. I've since learned that I have an impingement in that shoulder, and physio treatments are helping. A year later I'm finally back to full range of motion and am using correct form. This is so important!

    In class a way to check is just to just look at where the inside of your elbows are facing. You want them to be facing each other, not facing forward.

    Makes no sense to me. Rotate your palm up, now rotate your palm back down without rotating your arm...yeah, that doesn't work. I have no idea what she's trying to do.

    • @vinine1204
      @vinine1204 11 місяців тому

      Yes, and she is not using the term of external rotation correctly either. External rotation is when your elbow flares out away from your body.

    • @g.......g
      @g.......g 11 місяців тому +1

      When we do the steps as above, and rotate our palm up, this movement now helps the shoulder joint move into external rotation. Try it a few times, focusing on your shoulder. Then with your palm up and your shoulder now externally rotated, mentally tell yourself to "freeze your shoulder joint" and then move only your elbow joint to cause your palm to go back to facing down. Hope this helps😅

      @@vinine1204that is not true. Your upper arm bone the humerus bone rotates in different directions- one of the is external- and that is the correct anatomical word. Your elbow extends when straight or flexes when bent - that is also the correct anatomical term

    • @vinine1204
      @vinine1204 11 місяців тому

      @CathyMadeoYoga I understand what you're trying to say, but I can't find any scientific videos of it being called external rotation. The external rotation of the shoulder is the only external rotation of the arm that I can find. And what you're describing in this video is not it. If you can send me a link to a video, article, or scientific journal, I'd love to read it. The humerus is rotating with the supination and pronation of the forearm, but I have never heard it described as "external rotation."

    • @kwaus46446
      @kwaus46446 11 місяців тому +2

      The movement of the humerus is of course connected to the movement of the shoulder, since it’s attached there. The anatomic word for the joint of the shoulder is: articulatio humeri (!) The external rotation in this joint is exactly what leads the upper arm to turn outwards :) the pronation then leads the under arm (and only the underarm if you stay in the external rotation in your shoulder) to turn inwards again (palm downwards). You don’t have to take my word for granted but
      you can find this in any anatomic book :) you just also have to always think about how the joints work together. And of course Cathy is using the wording “upper arm” since you can’t expect people to know what the articulatio humeri is :)

    This is exactly opposite what my teacher told me , when coming from plank to chaturanga they asked to move elbow internally rotated because it will impossible to move down in externally rotated elbow, now I am super confused
