The secret areas are randomly unlocked when beating any other event/battle in the same location. I switch to whichever partner Digimon beat an enemy in the show when playing, so I just use previous map locations where I have not yet unlocked the secret area for grinding for new evolutions when needed.
Also, the song is Brave Heart (the evolution insert song) rather than Butter-Fly (the opening).
