    Thanks for another interesting riff guys👍.
    At the opposite end of the price scale, I was astonished at the improvement Origin Live's cartridge enabler made to a 2M Red cartridge, at less than £30 it was a bargain, also their turntable mat is quite good too.

    Im fortunate enough to own a MK4 Sovereign together with 12” Conqueror supporting a Lyra Delos. The sound is all as you described more natural and organic. I sold my LP12 to purchase it. I haven’t looked back since 2019. I only wished I had jumped sooner before spending serious cash with LP12 upgrades! The rest of the replay chain is - phonostage Modwright Ph9.0 - Amp - DecwareZenUFO802 - speakers - Marten Oscar Duo

      You can get a good second hand price for some Linn upgrades but having said that is it sonically worth it? Fortunately I have not spent really serious cash on them as the sky now is the limit. N.B. Tiger Paw Skale & Tranquility were non Linn upgrades that made the famous Sondek more tonally natural.

    Yet again great riff chaps, never owned any OL products but have heard some of their products over the years, always great sounding and brilliantly finished. Made me concerned with my PT decks however being always on a tight budget OL stuff made me fully of envy. Cheers Chaps.

    Turntable reviews are great, just can't get enough! Thanks guys! If I had to build a turntable it would be without springs, no O rings, no suspension. Therefore, no lateral movements, meaning a source of speed drift just got eliminated.

      Yes you're spot on in this respect - but then you'd have to float it on something to decouple it from the room. Possibly a bicycle tyre inner tube, or blow-up lilo?

    Interesting riff... I see that Origin Live make a fair range of TTs and arms, and the starting point is (relatively!!) affordable. I wonder how the others compare to this one; there look to be common design features. I hope they are terrible, but I suspect not. Upgradeitis is a worrying process!
    On the subject of jumpers, a particularly splendid example at 4.20!

    To the Ant and Dec of hifi (meant with the most sincerest of compliments). Thank you for another entertaining and informative riff. Though the price is stellar (for me anyway) it feels like it’s a snip when compared to the latest LP12 50th anniversary edition - i understand that this will have more of a collector appeal. Yet, I feel the music experience is likely to be more rewarding with this beauty.
    BTW, did you change your seating arrangement to mess with our heads? You know A&D have rules around this kind of thing. Also is it ‘Mike and Dave’s hifi riff’ or ‘Dave and Mike’s hifi riff’? Minor thing but is audiophiles are all about the details.

    They are if you're talking about hitting them both together from a cold start but many people in the hobby, probably most, are generally upgrading one item at a time and trading in or selling a component of decent quality towards it.
    I've owned every one of the OL tonearms now up to the Enterprise and done so in incremental steps. The time taken between the steps are getting longer, admittedly 😅
    Fabulous gear though.

    a question, if i bought a sme model 15 with a 309 arm and then later wanted to upgrade the arm i would have to buy a whole new turntable? is this the way sme are going?

    • @hoobsgroove
      @hoobsgroove Рік тому

      I don't see why that should be? I don't know the 15 but why do you think you need to buy a new turntable, if you want a different arm? A arm doesn't even need to be connected to the table if the reach is there, pivot to spindle is correct.
      If there's no room to adjust the arn what seems unlikely, just make sure a replacement arm is exactly the same length or do what I suggested in the first instant.

    • @jamesdyer9022
      @jamesdyer9022 Рік тому +1

      @hoobsgroove you misunderstood my question, sme no longer sell there arms on there own, so if you wanted to upgrade the arm you now cannot buy an arm off sme, if you look at any sme dealers they no longer offer there arms for sale

    • @hoobsgroove
      @hoobsgroove Рік тому

      @@jamesdyer9022 right that's not good why they decide to do that for?? anyway there's bitter arms out there, have a look at the (suptrac blackbird) People say it's more superior than the sme mk5 and is £2,000 you won't go wrong with an arm like that, it's a no-brainer. And they make arm boards for SME

    I sincerely wish that origin live TTs are available more locally. I have set my budget for a fully loaded Rega 10, around £5k, and whilst I can't afford this epic TT, I would love to audition an Origin Live from further down the range side by side with the Rega 10. Alas I can't do this. Michael Fremer really rates these TTs as do many others who have reviewed them.

    • @Nigel_Bolton
      @Nigel_Bolton Рік тому

      Having had a resolution mk3, which I bought 2nd hand, originally with an encounter and then an enterprise arm I can honestly say it out performed both the project and rega decks that would have cost about the same as you are looking to spend. I will admit to falling for upgradeitis as Tony Cottrell notes, but that wasn't because of anything lacking. It was simply because I fortunately live a couple of miles from the factory and managed to get a listen to something similar to that being reviewed. If you can get to a show or dealer and here one before you take the plunge on the Rega I don't think you would regret the info your ears would get from the trial. Alternatively an OL arm upgrade on your current deck (if you can) might be worth considering. You can always do the deck later, I have seen OL themselves sell some traded in arms.

    I'm really glad I have been out of the vinyl rut for the past 20 years or so. It is one of the quickest ways to bankrupt yourself chasing unicorns. Get yourselves a good ADC (exceptional ones can now be found in the pro market, costing much less than 1K quid), rip your favourite tracks from your favourite LPs on your favourite multi thousand quid vinyl playing system and see if listening to the rip through a half decent DAC manages to convey exactly what you are hearing directly from the vinyl. I think that you will be in for a surprise in that you will find it does. You can even compare the two real time if you so wish, switching from your preamp as you don't have to store the file somewhere (which is exactly the way John Atkinson listens to his vinyl). Which proves a lot but I'll leave it to you to think what exactly it proves, otherwise I will be called a cynic. Now, when it comes to masters and re-masters of older recordings that's altogether a different, unfortunate, issue and one that may justify owning a vinyl reproduction system if you're into the kind of music you chaps are into. I'm mostly into classical and jazz which, fortunately, does not suffer (much) by this 'de-mastering' disease. Btw, 3 times 'organic' is at the limit of what I can tolerate in a review. Just sayin'..
