I have very thick, wavy hair that is about waist length and is just about an even length, but I struggle to hide the ends of my braids as the braids end up passing over the top of my head and just past the opposite ears, and then it seems like there's no where to hide away the tails effectively (especially if I'm wearing it in modern style with no linen cap). It seems like every tutorial I see shows the tails just magically disappearing, but my hair is never as thin in the tails as the examples. I have tried to fold the end of the braids under to tuck them in, however they make very large bumps that stick out right at my ears and look very silly and untidy. Any suggestions for those burdened with lots of locks that won't quite cooperate? Thanks for the tutorial!
Try gelling the ends and using some small clear rubber bands. You can use 2, 3, how ever many to keep all the ends in tight. Then tuck it under the wrapped braids.
My girlfriend who does reenactment taught me to lace my hair yesterday. My hair is fine and is down to my hips. I didn’t use a long enough tape and I crossed my braids underneath my head before going over the crown. We used bead end pins to anchor the ends. (The Tudors used pins a great deal, I understand.). She tucked the ends in when she sewed my hair and I didn’t notice them stick out. Just now I redid the braid with 3 yards of 1 inch present tape. ( Sorry re-enactors.). I did pull the braids over the crown first and the braids crossed at the nape of my neck. I started sewing from the ends of the ribbon to the top of the crown. I didn’t have a lot of ribbon left over: I made a half bow with difficulty. I have no intention of dressing as a Tudor, I just want more things to do with very long hair. With your thick hair, I expect you will be much more comfortable with 4 yards of tape. I hope this helps.
Did u ever figure out how to hide the ends. I have the same problem and was gonna comment but saw urs and it's as if I could have written ur comment myself. 😁
We've just added 4 yard ribbons to our hair lacing kits for long hair. You might need 4 1/2 yards for very long hair. The best thing is to find some cheap cotton tape or ribbon to practice with so you know what the perfect length is before investing in something really nice!
Wonderful. I'm so glad to have found your site. Thankyou.😊
Thank you so much. NOW I know to "sew" from the front. Off to try again.
Very useful, thank you!
Thank you, I’ll be trying this out to wear under a gable hood tomorrow. Xx
ok I have to go try this on myself RIGHT NOW! XOXOXOX
Thank you, that’s great ! x

Hi Ninya!
Useful, yes, thanks!
how many yards of ribbon would you suggest getting for mid-hip length hair?
