Gotta love Joe Cole, decent guy with no ego. That Chelsea team of the mid 00s was just a winning machine. They were so powerful and mentally strong it was scary. Mourinho of that era was special, he demanded so much more from his players and it showed in the games that they played.
That along with Rafa Benitez defined that time frame in football.
The game has moved on from the mid/late 00s, players are no longer the same I'd say more "snowflakey" and I assent to add more social media driven.
But what great time to enjoy the game back in the mid to late 00s.

@@I-am-Ranb0 Plus United and Liverpool were so powerful too. The best era was the the Premier league in 98 - 2008 BIG4 era. Four genuine WORLDCLASS teams that were very much feared in Europe as well.

@@Bossman525 Definitely my man, football has changed so much, most teams now are all full of small midfielders, small wide men, small forwards.
Each to their own and what not but I always like watching teams that have the power to bully teams and play with flair, like I said that Chelsea team with the likes of Drogba, Lampard, Essien, Terry, Cech etc.. Arsenal with Campbell, Lehman, Gilberto, Viera.. United with Vidic, Ferdinand, Rooney, Keane etc...
Also inter Milan when Jose, that team was insane man they had everything, Power with Lucio, Zanetti, Cesar, Maicon, Samuel, Cambiasso, Motta, but then had awesome players like Milito, Eto, Sjneider even Balotelli.

    • @Bossman525
      @Bossman525 6 років тому +11

@@I-am-Ranb0 Amen to that comment brother, world class POWERFUL teams that will not be replicated in modern football.
Frank Rijkaards Barca was more dominant in terms of play as apposed to the more tiki taka Peps Barca. I preferred the more powerful Barca team of Frank Rijkaard's then the later version of the more delicate football of peps.
But again two very different but quality teams.

Joe Cole was at his peak during 2005-06 season. He was the best player of England at 2006 World Cup. After that he suffered two back to back injuries and missed the most of 2006-07 season. He never gained his top form after that, just a spark in 2007-08 season and after that he just faded away at the age of 27, what a shame.

In a sense, Mourinho was right. Joe Cole had like 2 GREAT years but never he was considered the best in the world, whilst Frank Lampard... he trully was one of the greatest ever to play in that position. Still Mou had the knowledge to educate and praise Joe Cole for what he did but he trully could have been so much more.
But then again we (the general public) are unaware of so many things that these glimpses of interactions of players and coaches are so interesting.
I would love to be a manager at that level, or at least have the opportunity of witness a full season under a Football Manager that coaches any top flight team.

I'm one of those who thinks Joe didn't reach his potential. I understand why he went to Chelsea, and yes he did win alot there, but, he was not any part of the reason they won so much. They'd have won it without him. He was never really trusted in the middle at Chelsea, particularly by Jose who preferred bigger lads. So he was stuck out wide for so long there. He was never trusted to be free. Jose even threatened to sell him if he did one more backheal. That era of lampard, Gerrard and scholes debate should have included joe. He was every bit as good as them, maybe even more so. Could have been gazza Standard, i really believe that. But he's overlooked as a great. Because he was never allowed to shine as a central player. Still a great career, but should have been so much better for me.

I think maybe the comments on unfulfilled potential are more to do with Joe seeming like a top bloke and was obviously an exciting player, certainly in English terms, so it would have just been nice for him to be mentioned alongside players like Lampard and Gerrard. His trophy haul is in reality really impressive but I feel like if it was with a different club he would have stood out more as Mourinho has never really valued players like Cole as much as other managers do.

I'm glad they were talking about his 2005/06 Chelsea goal vs ManUtd that secured the PL title and not either his offside goal at OldTrafford in 2004/05 or his goal at OldTrafford in 2009/10 which also won Chelsea the title but incredibly controversial title win that year it was from Chelsea where ManUtd were the best team.
He had some good luck against ManUtd didn't he, I even remember him getting away with a red card offence at OldTrafford 2007/08 when he hacked Cristiano from behind (what ManUtd player is ever allowed to do that to a Chelsea player? Certainly not Vidic, Rafael etc... ) and Stamford Bridge 2009/10 escaped punishment for an off-the-ball hack out at Fletcher and in 2008/09 he again fouled Cristiano from behind wasn't quite as bad as his 07/08 hack but the thing about the 08/09 one was that Cristiano was the only player to be booked in that incident???? That was the game where Mike Riley booked 7 ManUtd players to Chelsea's 1 when Chelsea were the dirtier team it wasn't a dirty game at all from ManUtd yet they get a club fine for unfairly having 6 or more players booked.
