[Dive into Joseon Pansori] is a book that looks at the composition and characteristics of Pansori and understands the value of how traditional art touches the present. With the introduction of the five traditional Pansori Madang, we not only unraveled the message of the classics in an easy-to-understand manner, but also introduced Korean traditional music(Gugak) to those who are not familiar with it.
#Pansori is a national intangible cultural asset of the Republic of Korea, and in 2003 it was registered as the UNESCO's Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Pansori is a kind of solo opera in which a single singer performs a combination of chang (sound), aniri (words), and neoreumsae (gesture-balim) to the rhythm of a gosu (drummer).
Pansori is a compound word of 'pan' and 'sori', 'sori' means 'music' and 'pan' means 'place where many people gather' or 'situation and scene'. It means 'a song sung at a playground where a large audience gathers'. In other words, Pansori is the art of harmony and freedom in which the people are the root and the audience actively participates in the play through chuimsae (respond). Moreover, Pansori is not only music, but also a very multiple art with literature as the background and acting a play. It is performed only by the singer and drummer.
Author Kim Hee-jae, a young Pansori singer with 21 years of experience, has been consistently telling stories that conveys unfamiliar and old Pansori to the public in an easy, fun and friendly way. She speaks of the humanistic values of Pansori through various activities such as performances and lectures. Also, by reinterpreting Pansori in a modern way, you look back on
the meaning of tradition through this book. You will feel attractive through the music of very fresh Gugak musicians and originally deep master singers introduced in this book.
