For me, I thought since 7 years old that I wouldn't make it to 18, dead from food allergies. Despite a few close calls, I blew past that birthday, shed a few tears, and kept on keeping on. A bit of depression made me question making it to 25, but now I'm pushing 25 and confident I can make it to 40 and beyond. I have a retirement account FFS!
This song is a good reminder not to get so caught up in your own world that you can't remember that other people are just doing their best too. Thanks, Kimya!
I'm 71 and I reminisce about the complicated life I used to live. Younger people don't know it but time is the great leveler. All the things that you used to do and the issues with people and things are diminished. It just happens.
I went with some friends to see a show about 20 years ago at the Beachland Tavern in Cleveland, dont remember what band my friends wanted to see, i just went along. I was blown away by Kimya. Amazing artist! 😃👍
Rest in Peace Micheal Larson he loved you, and because of him I was introduced to Kimya, your soul is so pure all your music is so inspiring, thank you so much,
Kimya, your words of wisdom has really opened my eyes...I have had my struggles, being on the road and I have lost my friends and I have thought of really bad decisions but now I have been listening...and I am glad I am alive and I thank you for your music cuz it's really really helped me In ways I cannot describe. I love you as an artist and I love you as a person and I'm glad you have shared such truthful art and it means so much to me I thank you and I'm glad you are here. 🌍🌝🤙it is such an honor to hear what people need to realize. And I hope that one day that your music Will help other people with compassion and realize how such an impact you have made.
For everyone who was as shocked/scared as me at the _"Some nice cops"_ line: Kimya said on Twitter back in 2018 she regrets that line and stopped singing it when she sung this song live. She supports BLM and agrees that kindness/empathy is no longer enough. I was so relieved to find this out, being a POC myself. ACAB. I love Kimya so much.
@porkchopsandwiches Nah, it doesn't. Here's the thing: there are nice cops out there. There are cops who are sincerely good people who became officers because they believe in justice and upholding it. But unfortunately, they are the minority. The existence of nice cops doesn't change the fact that the American police system is deeply, dangerously flawed. It puts power in the hands of racists and abusers, then protects them from consequences. When people condemn police officers, they're doing it because those cops are willingly contributing to this system, no matter how nice they are personally. Innocents are being murdered, and their killers are getting away with it. Try to think of it this way. Nazis are bad. Statistically, there were probably Nazi soldiers who were drafted against their will and rebelled, but when people say "Nazis are bad" you don't say "Not ALL Nazis." In the words of Kimya: there are some nice cops, but they're totally complicit in all the shitty stuff the racist cops are doing.
@porkchopsandwiches I would argue that the fact the institution in question attracts racists and abusers at such magnitude is in and of itself a failure of the institution. Abusers are everywhere, it's true, but few career paths offer both the opportunity and impunity it does to be a police officer in the United States. An institution like this, particularly one whose entire purpose is to uphold justice, cannot be considered to be "managed responsibly" when its foundations not only allow but excuse such a drastic amount of abuse. This is not corruption, it is a piece of the system itself that has been carefully designed and curated by those within it. The Nazi metaphor was admittedly clumsy- I was using it more as an example of why it's unhelpful to argue for good cops than as a comparison between the two. I completely disagree with the notion that good cops equal good police service. Good police service should be a measure of the system as a whole and how well it functions (as well as to vet, train, and penalize its workers), not something that relies so drastically on the variable moral standards of its officers to succeed. Typically, when people talk about dismantling the police, it's because they think the system needs to be rebuilt, not destroyed. Very few people are actually calling for unregulated policy or anarchy, contrary to popular belief. I've been to Black Lives Matter protests, and from my own experience, protesters want to work with the police. Things ARE complicated. I agree that ACAB is a simplifying turn of phrase, but it's only there because "All cops are bastards regardless of their own personal values because the institution they contribute to is inherently prejudiced and dangerous" just doesn't make a good acronym.
I feel like that’s just contradictory to the message of the song, and against the idea of realizing that “just because some X suck doesn’t mean all X suck” The whole ACAB thing is a blanket statement that I can’t support
as a POC myself, if you ACTUALLY think that all cops are horrible then your JUST as bad as racist cops in my eyes Your judging someone by their appearance LMFAO
Wow this is absolutely beautiful, a small reminder we all need sometimes when we're always judging everyone around us. I think we just need to shut up more and love more!
amen... and my new favorite song...found it accidentally searching for loose lips... wow... she writes amasingly... love the no such thing as tmi... lol... i suffer from no filter too... spent Christmas alone today as a result... lol... oops... 2016 sucked... ill make new friends.. and family... lok... fyi sobriety sucks... if i still drank... i could deal with my toxic family better perhaps. i saved a bundle not guilt shopping for xmas shit though.. love the tune.. thanks
This is just great what we need in 2017 because we are being manipulated into a divide which only results in ignorant hate and this kinda feels like we could pull through if we all understood
Damn wow...i wish her and Patrick from Johhny Hobo & the Freight Trains, Wingnut Dishwashers Union,& Ramshackle Glory..would have met n got together to become friends n write music together. They both have this similar raw emotional humanistic thought provoking magickaly poetic quality to their songwriting n singing that seems to tap into the very essence of the human experience & both the collective & individual consciousness. If u don't know either of them well i suggest liking them up n checking out all their music.
[Verse 1] You were looking down at them, they were looking down at you You were starched and pressed, they were all disheveled They were holding hands, They were ragamuffins and they said "I know we're not fancy but we're on the same level We've got plans, big plans!
I just ran outta gas in Madison, with open booze and hella drugs, but the cop let me call a ride home and didn't tow my car, I instantly thought of this song and how there are some nice cops in Madison Wisconsin
"Nice cops" ? Yes i know... I met one or two (among dozens). i kinda feel bad for them tho because they missed their call as good guys in a good world.
I have a strong love for non-pop music, that taste has taken me through genres from Blue Grass to Blues, Country, Metal to name just a few ... this is amazing :) Thank you for sharing your art ^^
"I never thought I'd make it to 25, now I'm pushing 40." I feel this.
Yes.
Feel hugged!
I have a retirement account FFS!
what I love about Kimya's music is that each song is like a conversation.
She sings this here so gently and yet it's STILL full of emotion and passion!
She's literally so immensely talented and has such a great view on the world. I will eternally be thankful for all she has open my mind to.
me too c: i feel like everyone should hear her songs.
Couldn't have said it better!!!
This song is a good reminder not to get so caught up in your own world that you can't remember that other people are just doing their best too. Thanks, Kimya!
Kimya was decades ahead of her time when this song came out. I still can’t sing it all the way through without breaking into tears.

I'm 71 and I reminisce about the complicated life I used to live. Younger people don't know it but time is the great leveler. All the things that you used to do and the issues with people and things are diminished. It just happens.
Thank you for sharing this 💗 in my 20s and we need more perspectives like this!!

Magnificent piece.
Hits me right in the feels
Wow this is absolutely beautiful, a small reminder we all need sometimes when we're always judging everyone around us. I think we just need to shut up more and love more!

that’d be amazing i love wingnut dishwasher union
[Verse 1]
You were looking down at them, they were looking down at you
You were starched and pressed, they were all disheveled
They were holding hands, They were ragamuffins and they said
"I know we're not fancy but we're on the same level
We've got plans, big plans! We're gonna change the world
All you care about is dollars, that doesn't make sense
All you do is hit snooze, watch the news, buy shoes, drink booze
Make money feel spent and
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day after day after day."
[Verse 2]
Then you look at them without batting an eye and say
"Hey little hippie, let your freak flag fly
Why don't you go smoke a bowl in your best tie-dye?
Get a tattoo of a dancing bear holding a peace sign
You can talk the talk but when it comes to real change
Are you and all your little friends exactly the same?
You sit around in potlucks, pointing fingers, placing blame
Drinking kombucha and eating tempeh and
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day, it's the same shit
Day after day after day after day after day."
If you are judging them while they are judging you
And you think that makes them assholes, maybe you're an asshole too
Do we argue with each other until we both turn blue or
Find similarities in what we like and what we do?
Yeah, just because someone does not look like me
Doesn't mean they are a clone or a sheep
Maybe they like their job and they're living their dream
And they love their friends and their family
Yeah, some people thrive between nine and five
And feel like they're choking if their neck's not tied
And some people feel as if they're gonna die if
Their seams aren't straight and their shoes not tied
Some people like business, some people like numbers
Some people grow organic heirloom cucumbers
And only feel free with their hands in the dirt
In a pair of old jeans and their favorite t-shirt
Some people feel enslaved when they have a boss
Some people without one are totally lost
To make this world work, it takes all different kinds
We all have different tastes, different strengths, different minds
So it doesn't make sense to generalize
And it doesn't make sense to judge with our eyes
We need more compassion, we need to be kind
If you open your heart, you might like what you find
Cause there are some mean bus drivers, and there's some nice bus drivers
And there's some nice cops in Madison, Wisconsin
And there's some nice teachers, and there's some mean teachers
Just because you have a mean teacher doesn't mean all teachers suck
And no one is nice all the time, no one is mean all the time
Think about what someone's going through that's making them be mean to you
Like maybe their pet gerbil died and they are really sad inside
Or maybe they are in a fight with someone that they really liked
Or maybe they are really shy, don't know how to socialize
May just want to run and hide, not saying that it's justified
But if we learn to empathize, the resentments will vaporize
Situations metamorphize before our very eyes
Then the need to stereotype will become outdated
When we realize that everyone is really complicated
We are all so complicated
We are all so complicated
I am also complicated
I am also complicated
I'm a black mom, a lactivist, a home-owning punk
It's been over a decade since the last time I got drunk
I drive a mini-van, and I've got junk in the trunk
I think Danny DeVito is a total hunk
I like revisiting the shit my therapist helps me remember
Being friends with someone for a long time, still not knowing their gender
I fight for equal rights, and I fight for inner peace
And I pray to the dead for the gratitude I need
I've got chickens in my backyard and a little garden plot
I really hate commercials but I got a slap-chop
Cause I'm a sucker for a remix, let me tell you what
By the time that I am finished, you are gonna love these nuts
I'm a little bit pop culture, a lot bit DIY
I don't know the definition of T.M.I.
I write poems about my period, post pictures of my log
If you don't like body functions, you shouldn't read my blog
My baby's daddys a musician from the mountains in France
He wrote me a song, we did interpretive dance
Then he knocked me up, now we have the coolest kid
Yeah, making her with him's the smartest thing I ever did
And I feel like I can fly when I'm on roller skates
I get a little high when I eat dried dates
I feel like I'm unloading when I'm loading up the car
I feel like I'm exploding when I'm holding my guitar
I don't understand what numbers have to do with success
Or what sales have to do with happiness
Unless they're the kind of sails that will carry me to sea
Where my grandma and grandpa are waiting for me
I never thought I'd make it to 25, now I'm pushing 40 and I'm glad that I'm alive
If I ever need a tour bus, I'm still gonna drive
Cause I like looking out the window as the world goes by
Looking out the windshield as the world goes by
Yeah, looking out the windshield as the world goes by
Now I'm pushing 40 and I'm glad that I'm alive
And I like looking out the windshield as the world goes by
Amazing💫
so raw
this is so good
That made me happy
Damn, I love that woman
Hope its ok for her^^
I just ran outta gas in Madison, with open booze and hella drugs, but the cop let me call a ride home and didn't tow my car, I instantly thought of this song and how there are some nice cops in Madison Wisconsin
"Nice cops" ? Yes i know... I met one or two (among dozens). i kinda feel bad for them tho because they missed their call as good guys in a good world.
Amazing.
I have a strong love for non-pop music, that taste has taken me through genres from Blue Grass to Blues, Country, Metal to name just a few ... this is amazing :) Thank you for sharing your art ^^
