I just made this the other day and omg. I love love it. It taste just like the ones at the store. One of the best recipe I have found. Thank you for sharing it. Also I greatly appreciate that your recipes are small family size.
Wow! Very glad you like this delicious recipe. Keep on following me for more cooking videos. A lot of recipes are small because I have a small family too.
I haven't had a chance to have this in such a long time now, and most recipes I've found online were....confusing? But thanks to your video and recipe I finally got it done right! I used mung beans for my secondary layer as addition and pandan extract substituted for pandan juice since I can't get pandan leaves locally. they came out so good! Definitely miles better than my first time trying to make them. 100% will be making these again in the future with your recipe as #1 on my list! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it, and show us how to do it right.
Sister Mee, I love all your recipes! Your instructions are very clear and well prepared. Keep updating us and share some more of all your delicious dishes. I really like the one that you showed how to vom qaib ntim su!
Your stems food layer is look so good, and I had learn how to make all the ingredients already but I just missing one part if you don’t mind I will contact you some time to show me one more time for the part that I didn’t see on your show I think you might know me thank you for sharing.
Hi, thank you for your recipe. Question - do you use dry measuring cups to measure all the dry ingredients, such as tapioca starch, rice flour and sugar or do you use a liquid measuring cup to measure them? Just wondering because many Hmong people use the liquid measuring cup for measuring everything. Please confirm which one you use. I will like to try your recipe. Thank you!
Mine didn’t turn out. Not sure what went wrong but I used the measurement you had down and then afterwards I split the mixture in half. One half I add panda extract and the other half I left it white. Then I steamed it. I want to attempt to make it again. Please clarify, if I was making a batch as big as yours- for the green layer would I use 2 can of coconut milk, 3 cup of panda leaf juice, 3 cup of sugar, 3 cups of tapioca starch, 1 cup of rice flour, 1 tablespoon of salt and then for the white layer would I use the same measurement
Sister, thank you for your video. I am wondering how to store if i want to make 1 day before a big wedding due to timing. Is your recipe good for next day?
To serve the next day, I usually make this steam layer cake the night before to allow sufficient time for it to have a complete cool. My recipe here is very soft and it does not get hard the next day.
Besides namva, this dessert/kohanom is my favorite. Can you please show me how to make the pandan juice? I actually have never made it and don’t know how! Thank you Mee.
I’m kinda confused about the water potion part. So u add 14oz of coconut milk and stir with the sugar and u add another 1 1/2 cups of water more right?
Sorry, I have not use other in place of tapioca starch. I've noticed that other people have used arrow roots in their recipes but I personally have not replace tapioca starch with arrow roots in my recipe.

The pandan is a little too strong for me, next time I’ll just use regular water but you can test to see what you like. You should give this recipe a try

I ried this recipe yesterday. So deceiving, not soft and chewy as i was expecting. You don’t need to let it rest or cold down before cutting because the cake is not enough soft. I usually don’t like too much sweet but this recipe is not enough sweet. The recipe is not bad but not enough good for me. I will never do this recipe again. Beeing a foodie and a picky taster, I'm trying to give my 8x8 cake away now or is going to the garbage.
I love that you switch between both languages so flawlessly. I can't wait to try this recipe.
One of my favorites as a child! Thanks for sharing!
Great job explaining the steps so clearly and easy 👌🏽

Thanks for sharing sis, I’ve made this for our Christmas dinner and my family love it. But I reduce the sugar to 1 cup instead and it’s still sweet.

What’s your measurements for each layer when you pour in? I’m curious to know so that they’re evened out.

Hi Anee, not sure what went wrong that it didn't turn out for you. Yes, your measurement is correct. Don't give up. Try again until you get it.
Sister, thank you for your video. I am wondering how to store if i want to make 1 day before a big wedding due to timing. Is your recipe good for next day?
Hi for each color you repeat the same measurement?
Thank you for the recipe.
Thank you for sharing your recipe just asking after couple days does it still stay soft ?
Love it! Can I make this night before? Will this get hard the next morning?
To serve the next day, I usually make this steam layer cake the night before to allow sufficient time for it to have a complete cool. My recipe here is very soft and it does not get hard the next day.
I’ll wait until I go to Asia to eat this dessert that is made by the pro! 😅
Besides namva, this dessert/kohanom is my favorite. Can you please show me how to make the pandan juice? I actually have never made it and don’t know how! Thank you Mee.
I want to know too. Mine have been too bland or too bitter.
Yeah it literally is soft
I’m kinda confused about the water potion part. So u add 14oz of coconut milk and stir with the sugar and u add another 1 1/2 cups of water more right?
Yes, that is correct.

How long do we steam each layers for? Thank you ❤
I steamed each layer for 15 minutes. If you view my tutorial video recipe, I talked about that too.

How many inches in diameter is your baking pan? In the video you said 16 inches?
Hi Emily, I have a 14 and 16 inch round pan with 1 1/2 inch in height.
Thank you!
Do you turn on the heat for the coconut liquid?
You have to put the coconut milk, sugar and salt together and heat until all sugar is melted in order to use.
Beautiful. How many cups per layer?
Yer Yang-Thao her recipe on the description is only for one layer, if you want to do 3 layer then you’ll need to triple the recipe.
I don't measure each layer by cup. I use a ladle spoon which was shown on the video. My 16 inch round pan, I used 5 ladle spoon per each layer.
Where did you get your cotton at
I'm sorry. Not sure what you mean by cotton?
Hi what can i use instead of tapioca starch i cant find tapioca starch there
Sorry, I have not use other in place of tapioca starch. I've noticed that other people have used arrow roots in their recipes but I personally have not replace tapioca starch with arrow roots in my recipe.
Sister , where did you buy your steamer from?
Hi sister BV, I bought my stainless steel steamer from Hmong Town Market in ST Paul.
So 2 cans of coconut milk or one?
Hello, this recipe is using 1 can 14 oz coconut milk. In my video I double the recipe and that was why you saw me using 2 cans of 14 oz. coconut milk.
Thanks
Did you double everything for the mixture you showed? Confused
I saw you put 2 cans of coconut. But you receipe says one can
I was confused by that too
She mention she is doubling her reciepe- base on her pan size.

The ingredients and measurements you have listed below, is that for each of the batter? Or is that the whole batter for all the layers?
I believe it’s the whole batter. I made this and I got about 4 cups ish total but I only did one batch. Here she double her recipe. If you do one batch you’ll get one 8x10 round cake. It taste good. Hello Phoua,, I have not tried to freeze this dessert. Not sure how it would turn out by freezing? You can experiment it?
Your recipe confuse, did not explain or give details for the white color, dont know if have to divide or not after add everything up
Hi Vanh, both the green and white colors are the same portions. Please view the listed ingredients below the screen.
