Requelme put on one of the best midfield performances ever seen at Ibrox when he played for Villarreal in a 2 - 2 draw. Every Rangers supporter that was there that night still raves about this player. I still feel privileged to have witnessed it.
Le recomiendo que mire todo el mundial 2006 de Argentina con Riquelme en cancha. Cuando el técnico lo remplazo argentina estaba ganando 0-1 al local Alemania y si hubiese seguido en campo el partido lo ganaba argentina lo ganaba Riquelme con la habilidad que tenía para controlar los resultados. I preferred Aimar, at least in the national team. No denying the talent if Riquelme but my god he played at a snail like pace. Just not my style.
They don't make them like that anymore. Too much about athletic pace and power nowadays. He was athletic in the sense that he was fit and could get around the pitch but he had so much skill and he let the ball do the work so much

Despite having technical ability to spare, none of the guys you mentioned really played the purely offensive with no defensive obligations with the liberty to deliver the final pass or shoot himself as they deemed fit number 10 role that Riquelme did. Both Silva and Modrić are more numer 8s and even wingers depending on the circumstances than traditional number 10s, you see them running their lungs out on defense and aren't necessarily the ones who deliver assists, and Verrati is very much strictly a CDM/number 5.
They do make them but authoritarian coaches destroy them. As good as DeBruyne is we'll never see his full arsenal because Guardiola will never allow it, he'd rather bench him first

Desde el año 1997 hasta el 2002 Riquelme nos mal acostumbro a los hinchas de Boca Juniors a ver esto todos los fines de semana. Después volvió y gano una copa libertadores de America. Ariel Ortega was also an excellent player but with different types of skills, with the sudden sideways feign moves and a nutmeg as he broke loose from the defenders; Ortega's skills somewhat resembled those of Garrincha's. Essa seleção Argentina que jogou a Copa 2006 era muito, mais muito boa. Depois do Brasil em 2006 eu gostava muito de ver essa Argentina jogar. E o Riquelme está os 4 meias que mais gostei de ver jogar na minha vida desde quando comecei assistir futebol. São eles: Zidane, Riquelme, Alex e Rivaldo.

Esta Selección tenía una calidad superlativa y un funcionamiento excepcional. En la última línea siempre había centrales de sobra, laterales con oficio, un mediocampo super combativo y técnico con Mascherano, Cambiasso y Maxi Rodriguez, y arriba tenía variantes tremendas en la mediapunta con Saviola, Tévez, Messi, más el agregado de Crespo como 9. Tener a Riquelme en ese contexto era un diferencial que le daba capacidades suficientes para salir campeón del mundo, lo que pasó contra Alemania en el mundial fue una mezcla de mala suerte (un par de tiros que pegan en el palo o cerca) con alguna lectura cuestionable de Pekerman, uno de los poquísimos partidos horribles de Cambiasso en la Selección y un arbitraje que los últimos 10 minutos forzó muchas jugadas para darle margen a Alemania de empatar. Hace poco lo vi nuevamente y cada día me quedan menos dudas de lo bien que jugaba ese equipo.
No se puede sacar a R cuando maneja los tiempos y freeza el partido estando n ventaja (2006). Mejor seleccion q la del 2014 sin dudas.

You can see why messi loves busquets so much deeper play but such similar movements cant quantify how much pCe they dont use or energy by absolute genius lecels of control. Riquelme almost has best qualities of sergio and xavi.
