Rupert is in a better position purely because his luxury group has a global footprint from global sales, Cartier revenue stands at $5.8b, this is not the overall revenue of the Richemont group just one brand. Factor in Mountblac, A Lange, IWC, JLC, Van Cleef & Arpel and Remgro SA. In the long run the massive industrialisation of Dangote will pay off if the Nigerian political and economic environment permits. The issue with Dangote is that his success can be subjected to political meddling as it’s currently happening in Nigeria. Rupert has the advantage as global economic determines the profitability of luxury goods.
Most Nigerians then to attach far too much emotions in African richest man rather than actually looking at the economy of their country objectively, this the same reason why Dangote refinery is struggling to get off the ground. Nigerian political instability is not the best environment for business to thrive, after every election all key drivers of the economy are flushed out with new ones selected on tribal sentiments. Free economy and ease of doing business will help to foster a better environment for entrepreneurs to globally compete.

South Africa and Nigeria rivalry have been escalating lately and I have no doubt this billionaire thing might take this rivalry too far. but if we South African keep our mouths shut and work hard to develop our country further like we always do, no doubt all of us will overcome our challenges, we must not tell other countries, we better than them, we are dominant Africans, we are giant of Africa etc cos all these nice titles does not put food on our tables.
