I would kill to be able to wash my hair every 3 days. No matter what I've tried, if I go a single day without washing, I look like I slept on a pizza

I use to be like that. Here is the secret: shhh..... ;) do not use sodium laurel sulfates ever again. I can now go three to 4 days maybe 5 days. Must buy sulfate free... Secret to this is the 1st two shampoos it will "still feel greasy" because sulfates strip hair of oils so your head is trying to over produce!! This is when they throw the shampoo away and say it doesn't work...UYou just have to be patient the first week. When hair gets use to not being stripped.... THEN you can go every other day to every three days..+...!! To maybe every 6 days if you are deep conditioning. I use coconut and pure almond. Someone taught me this, I didn't think my hair could at first because it was super oily! But now, every 3 to 4 days for me!

Your hair will get used to it. You just gotta go without washing you hair a couple days, run around with pizza hair. It'll pass.

Same for me for years! I've been in the beauty industry for over 20 years as mostly an aesthetician but ALL of my hair dresser friends stressed over the years to only wash every couple of days. My hair is very fine and thin and I felt the same as you and I always felt like my hair wasn't fresh! Only 2 years ago I finally was sick of damaged hair and started doing per recommendation an equal blend of coconut milk and honey. Leave on for 2-3 hours and OMG awesome. I also love Viviscal which you can purchase the full strength from most dermatologist offices. Tati is awesome! I get so many beauty tips from her videos!

well you have to 'train' your hair. when I started to dye my hair I had to wash my hair less often and your hair gets used to that. after a while your hair won't get greasy as fast!

Coconut Oil is AMAZING! I have been doing a Coconut Oil/Olive Oil/Avocado hair mask once a month and once a week I do Coconut Oil/Olive Oil mask once a week. I also put Aragon Oil on the ends of my hair after every shower AND I use Apple Cidar Vinegar Rinse once a month to get any extra gunk out of my hair from products. I've only done this for a few months but my hair is looking so healthy and shiny!

Coconut oil is old traditional indian/Asian/Pakistani tip!! Our generations and ancestors use it and I can remember when I was young my mum would keep putting coconut oil in my hair and I would get annoyed coz I didn't like the feel or look of it!!! But I do remember that it use to be long silky and black once washed after a good 3-4 days!! Lol those were the days, need to get use it more often! I still do use oil and get a lot of compliments in how shiny my hair is! X

If you have damaged hair I recommend washing once a week, I do this and yes it gets hella greasy but there’s always dry shampoo. This will in the long term really help. Also replace conditioner with a hair mask, if you have drier hair it will provide more nutrients and has less ingredients that will dry your hair that conditioner surprisingly contains. Don’t brush/touch your hair too much this distributes grease.
    Hope this was helpful.

coconut oil actually doesn't moisturize hair, because the molecules are too big to get into the hair shaft, all that coconut oil does the sun shine and coats the outside of the hair so it looks healthier. argan oil and Moroccan oil on an oil all have smaller molecules and will work to actually moisturize inside of the hair shaft and cuticle.

I have long, thick, natural blonde hair. Washing once a week, takes patience to go that long at first. Try it while on holiday, just vegging out. Rarely, I may use a dry shampoo only on my fringe towards the end of the week. Recently, while recovering from back surgery, I only washed my hair once a fortnight for a month. Again the only issue when going out, was my fringe which I used dry shampoo on it. I also condition first then shampoo. Using Argan oil on wet hair, air drying, then once again when dry to control frizz. A little goes a long way. I personally think we over use hair products. Sometimes, less is best. Occasionally I will deep condition with organic coconut oil.
Long hair is not more time consuming, I think it is less so. When I wore it extremely short, as in 5 cm with a number 4 clippers up the back, I would have to wash and style my hair once, if not twice a day, depending on how physically hard I work through the day, the temperature and if I was going out in the evening. I have given up the thought that only the young should wear their hair long. I don't think this rule applies any longer.

Okay I have so many questions for you so be prepared to answer.
    1. Is it healthier to wash your hair once a week opposed to every third day?
    2. If I only wash my hair once a week and I use a hot oil treatment/ deep conditioning treatment will it have as much as effect as if I did it twice a week? I don't want to dry my hair out washing it but I do want as many deep conditioning treatments as I can.
    3. What is the difference between a hot oil treatment and deep conditioning treatment and can you mix both or do them seperate and how much time between them?
3off4 When you put the coconut oil in your hair and sleep in it and wash it the next day I'm scared the water/ shampoo will wash it off completely so I feel like all that work would have been for nothing. How does that oil help your hair if It just washes right off? What is the benefit?
    5. Does dry shampoo smell good and how many times a day and how often shoukd you use it?
    6. How can I make my hair smell good if I don't wash it that much?
    7. I've read there is no evidence that biotin makes your hair grow faster only stronger is that true?
    8. I've heard gloss treatments make your hair shiny but will it damage my hair like hair dye would?

  • @boriken2
    @boriken2 10 років тому

Tati--just a thought. Us curly hair girls use a co-washing method. A lot of shampoos on the market are loaded with detergents and sulfates and stuff that are really damaging to your hair-they strip it of moisture. Washing with a no-silicone conditioner will give you clean, soft moisturized hair.

Tring Botner Sweat has salt in it, which isn't a substance that evaporates. If I want beach hair, working out and letting my hair air dry is awesome. It's true that sweat isn't oil, but salty hair isn't something I usually want.

I color my hair and when I do that, I add a dropper of either argon oil or maracusia oil to the mixture. It doesn't affect the color process and it really seems to make the process more conditioning. :) I too take biotin and see a big difference in my hair and my skin and nails. I wash every other day, I can't stand go longer than that . I use a steam hairsetter ( Caruso) and it doesn't dry out my hair like other styling tools. And the curls are gorgeous.

Hey Tati. Im so happy you pit this video out. The coconut oil tip really is fantastic and true and wven you say it , it will reach a whole lot of audience. 👍👌 Did you know in India this is what most people do. Drench their hair with coconut oil leave it on for hours or overnight and then wash it off with a good shampoo or a herbal powder which works like a shampoo. Its done for generations. Even my grandmother has said it to me so many times. And yes it works. In India you get coconut oil infused with so many other herbal ingredients that help cool your head keep the color of your hair vibrant and your hair strong. You really must try out those.
Have you updates your hair routine since this video? If you have please do let us know. Love Xoxox

I do this. But I slather it on before i workout at home. I'll workout and clean the house a bit and then shower. I have colored hair and it is great for that too. My color lasts a lot longer and stays more vibrant. I don't add any oil though. Just good ole organic coconut oil. Our dogs also get a heaping spoonful of it too.

I've done this before with a lot of different oils (argan, coconut, olive, and even mayonnaise). Every time I've tried it, it takes DAYS to wash out. I did one last night with coconut oil and washed it 4 times with clarifying shampoo and rinsed in cold water, knowing that in the past it has been impossible to wash out. Of course, my hair is a gross greaseball today. Not sure how people can wash it all out in just 2 washes, or how in the world you do it once a week?? I'd look slimy all week!

Hi Tati! Im obsessed with coconut oil too! I use it for everything! One question though: since your shampoo doesn't have any sulfates, do you find there is any buildup from any hair products you use? SO MANY products have silicones in them. BOTH SOLUABLE AND NON-SOLUABLE. Studies have shown that sulfates in shampoos are required to fully take off the non-soluable silicones in products, leaving a cleansed scalp; free from residue. Do you know if your styling hair products have silicones in them? If so, do you find you have some buildup on your scalp from the silicones not being dissolved from your sulfate free shampoo?

Another kitchen conditioner that works REALLY WELL and this may sound weird is Mayo. It has oils and eggs that works wonders for dry or damaged hair. Drench your hair with the mayo , wrap hair up for a few hours and shampoo as usual and you will be AMAZED at how silky and soft your hair will be. Try to buy real mayo verses Miracle Whip. The generic brands will work just fine. You will smell like a sub sandwich for a while but who cares as long as it works and believe me, it does!

+Lauren S what is your hair type? is your hair thin or thick?
please avoid using shampoos with sulfates in them, such as
[Alkylbenzene sulfonates, Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate, Ammonium laureth sulfate, Ammonium lauryl sulfate,Ammonium Xylene sulfonate, Sodium C14-16, Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium cocoyl sarcosinate, Sodium laureth sulfate, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, Sodium myreth sulfate ,Sodium Xylene sulfonate , TEA-dodecylbenzene sulfonate ,Ethyl PEG-15 cocamine sulfate, Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate]
sodium lauryl sulfate is the worst one. these chemicals are extremely drying to your hair and strip your scalp of its natural oils, which results in oily scalp to compensate for the loss
sulfate free shampoos are a little on the expensive side but a good investment in the long run.
also avoid silicones in conditioners. suave naturals and tresemme naturals are silicone free and affordable.
ive tried this method for my hair (i have thick wavy hair) and my roots now are not as oily as they used to be and i dont have to wash it as often.
again, it depends on your hair type and thickness, if you have thin straight hair then you may have to wash it more than a curly haired person. avoid touching your scalp as well as contact makes your roots oilier.
sorry for the long reply but if you take these steps on board, even just sulphate free shampoos, you will see a difference.

oh wow im not sure i thought maybe it was the product you were using. ask your hairdresser about it or consult with one online maybe they will be able to help. i had the same problem as you but it stopped when i stopped using sulphates etc. for the time being just avoid touching your roots too often because that will create more oil on your head. i hope it works out for you!

Sometimes it's good to just try a little bit of normal dish soap every once in a while, and wash it out. (But wash with dishsoap, rinse, and then use your normal shampoo) also sometimes washing it too often makes it greasy. I usually wash every other day, and deep condition on the weekends. Make sure to only use conditioner on the ends, that is something that really worked for me.

You can wash your hair everyday if u use sulfate free shampoo. Also, if u do deep condition, wash it w a sulfate free shampoo! If you do this, you will NOT need a conditioner after. Sulfate shampoo absolutely will strip your hair of all the wonderful nutrients you just put in!!
