This was the last World Cup I watched as a minor back when I was in high school and I didn’t need to be at work and watched it from home. This World Cup was the reason it peaked curiosity in Americans to advertise more for the next one unfortunately 2010 fell short of its expectations
Actually no it wasn't. World Cup 2002 was the best world cup for the USA. The emergence of players like Donavan, Marcus Beasley, Reyna, etc. and made it to the quarter finals. From there, people started to look forward to the next. 2006 was a disappointment, but it announced the coming of Dempsey.

Diego Forlan was the only big name not to compete at this World Cup. Now we have a situation where Haaland, Salah, Guirassy, Osimhen, Vini, KdB, Dovbyk, Messi, CR7, Modric and a couple of other big names might be absent at the next WC.
This final was the only time I cried because of a sporting event. I support France. I'm an American but I hold a French passport as well. And my hatred for Italy runs deep. I would've done what Zizou too. 🤷♂️
As an American and casual soccer fan, my question is why does it seem like goals used to be flashier compared to recent torunaments? A lot of these goals look like they could be out of a FifA game. I haven't really seen that in the the last few World Cup/Euro tournaments
Today "soccer" is about tactics and covering the regions of the field. Check these goals and see how many defenders do you see around. 3-5? Now once the enemy has the ball all the 10 players are suddenly at their own gate. They run like 5* times the distance these players did. Back in 2006 we had football players, individual flare but less tactics. Today we have athletes, no forward player staying at the middle waiting for a contra if the enemy has the ball... they all just camp in the defend line, and obviously you can hardly score such amazing goal when its 10 ppl you need to play through instead of 5.
Just looking back at this and I realized just how many true superstars were in this WC. Absolutely amazing.
Perhaps the greatest world cup and collection of stars we will ever see together.

Today "soccer" is about tactics and covering the regions of the field. Check these goals and see how many defenders do you see around. 3-5? Now once the enemy has the ball all the 10 players are suddenly at their own gate. They run like 5* times the distance these players did. Back in 2006 we had football players, individual flare but less tactics. Today we have athletes, no forward player staying at the middle waiting for a contra if the enemy has the ball... they all just camp in the defend line, and obviously you can hardly score such amazing goal when its 10 ppl you need to play through instead of 5.
