@robertreese5650 From Japan to France to Germany and China, high speed rail is the best you can have. Why is it not working here? Simple statements like yours are of no value unless we inquire and know the reason for the failures.
@@pindapoy1596 it doesn't get completed because it's used as a money pit, there's no accountability to get it done. Look at any government run construction project, giant boondoggles. @@robertreese5650 I never said (or thought) the contrary Mr. Reese. However there are a few things that need further analysis
"...there's no accountability to get it done.."
IF there are private investors in the mix, they will surely want to examine the balance sheets.
"...Look at any government run construction project, giant boondoggles.."
It has not always been like that: Tennessee Valley Authority, Hoover Dam etc had large government participation. It is the times that have changed. We have legalized corruption.
"...I am a bit of a rail fan..." Same here; I also lived abroad for many years (work) and still can't understand why we cannot have good and reliable high speed trains. But our political and societal system is also guilty. As long as private enterprise will be given a monopoly over public services, the public interest will take a very low priority over profit making.
No further comment because someone for sure will label me as a dirty commie.

Would you not like commuting at 150 miles per hour between two destinations rather than driving 3-4 hours at 65 miles per hour. Also it's working in Europe, China , India , Australia pretty well. Who should we not have railroads
Most people in the US don't want to ride a train. First, you have to drive to the train station or take some other form of transport. The train then dumps you off in a place where you don't want to be, so you have to get transportation to your final destination. For long distances, people fly. For shorter distances, they drive.
OK here's the deal. Electricity drops off over distance unless there is a substation to up the voltage. You go over longer distances say St. Louis to Detroit or Chicago, you can't just string wire. You have to have a power grid to support that locomotive which you currently don't have.
Current locomotives are diesel/electric. A large diesel engine turns an alternator which powers the electric motors in the wheels. Over long distances this is as clean as it gets. Pixie dust is not going to do it.
@jamesdoyle5405 So the problem is not the electric train. It is the grid. Yes.
Look at some of the videos that comes from Australia were they have electric chargers in the outback powered by a diesel generator . You can't make this stuff up
Where are you getting your electricity from?

@@8Oblivion_Lost8 if govt, it will never work to be destroyed
@randalldare4027 The recent train accidents show that PRIVATE railroad companies do not care about the public interest , only profit counts. While private companies are OK, when it comes to handling public interests, you need some very strong regulatory bodies and that is something that lobbyists will not let happen.
You can make an electric train if it’s in the rail, not in a battery in the train
It's called a third rail, and it's insanely dangerous to trespassers.
It's called 'Overhead Catenary'. It's the structure that supports the power wire & locates the wire a specific distance above the rail & centers the wire between the rails. It's maintenance intensive in severe weather & in extreme temperatures, both hot & cold, can threaten the integrity of the wire. 1929 was the first use of electric trains but it was on a small scale, eventually it got bigger. Anything cross country, diesel is the best choice. Especially if there's a holdup in the travel, like a heavy snow storm were the tracks can't be cleared right away. The diesels will supply electricity/heat & can be refueled by any heating oil supplier.
@@tonyburzio4107so don’t trespass 🤦🏻♂️ if your argument is it’s bad for criminals, not a great argument haha
@@tonyburzio4107 we have third rail in the UK, we have hardly any accidents like that, but then we don't have people wandering around on the rail network, perhaps you have that problem in the USA?
@@consul6262 3rd rail has already been tried in the US. It was a failure here due to weather conditions in the US and people getting killed from walking on the tracks. What works in England doesn't work here. England simply doesn't have the weather or the trespassing issues that we have here. Overhead electric trains were a failure too due to server winter conditions in the northeastern states. Diesel engine trains are the best choice for rail usage in the US.
Electric is not and was NEVER the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This BS needs to be trashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone wants to electrify everything. But, there's a BIG problem. To get to all-electric everything, the national electric grid has to TRIPLE in capacity! That's going to take a minimum of 25 years and can't possibly be done by renewables.
Not only do you have to increase production , you have to increase the infrastructure to deliver the power from the source to the consumer .
More FUD about electric trains.. They work in Chicago all year round. Heat cold rain etc.

To make a point here, the locomotives are not strictly speaking diesel engines. They are diesel/electric locomotives. The diesel component is actually a diesel generator that produces the electricity to power the electric motors that propel the trains down the tracks. They use this system because electric motors produce way more power and do a very good job of pulling trains. The issue here is how to produce the electricity to power the electric motors that move the locomotive. In America the diesel electric is far more practical as they can go down any track anywhere in the country without having to swap locomotives every time they come across a different type of electricity source. Also they don't draw off an already over taxed electrical grid. In California they already are having power outages due to inadequate supply and are telling people not to charge their electric cars. Where is the power going to come from to power totally electric locomotives? If the government spends billions or trillions of dollars on overhead lines like you see in Europe, they will end up having to use the diesel/electrics anyway when the power grid cannot handle the load. Just stupid really.
It's a boondoggle for sure.
California also has power outages because of some new “sensors” on the poles that turn electricity off if the wind blows too hard and branches might touch the wires and cause a fire. Or that is what pge says will happen. So far we’ve had power out, but no wind. 😂😂😂😂
Nicely put

Duh. Where is all this electricity going to come from?
We don't have the electric infrastructure to support more demands for electricity. Build up the infrastructure before putting electric trains and charging stations for EV's in service. The cart has literally been put before the horse. Especially in the summertime when A/C is being used and water plants have to pump more water for swimming pools, gardens, etc. And when fire occurs the Fire Department calls the water plant to be sure there is enough water on hand. Water Departments in large municipalities will generally run 3 to 4 times the water capacity than in the wintertime. You are talking Gigawatts of power that is being used.
Have they tried putting pedals in front of all the seats so passengers can use them to generate the electricity for the trains?
The diesel trains on the west coast don't stop but they have to slow down a lot because the rails expand in the 80+ temperature and the trains have to slow down to 35 or lower in a 50 mile per hour zone. A full day from Sacramento to Seattle. If you don't jump the track.
Where are you going to get the power to run that electric train ?
The problem with the Penn-NJ connection is that the overhead lines have NOT been properly maintained and re-tensioned over the years.
Now the conditions of the cables are too far gone and should be replaced ASAP. Cost: around $100 million !
These numbers are appalling!!! Wish more would hear/see this info...hope former President Trump mentions ALL of this during the debate!
Trains especially electric are the biggest waste of money for transit, freight is what they do best...
EV’s don’t work in extreme cold and don’t work in extreme heat so I guess that makes them worthless, huh
I would suffocate in a hot stalled train without AC in the heat.
When Electric School buses stop in subdegree weather across the country people might wake up as to the fact that EV"s are not practical or an acceptable mode of transportation in 80% of the US!
What business does the gov't have building a railroad? It does not. With all the failures with gov't "building" stuff (i.e. Solyndra; 7.5 billion dollars yield 8 charging stations and the list goes on). And then there is the violation of separation of powers wherein one guy is claiming "he" will build.... With who's money? Tax payer's.
