Longing and regret collide with the painful reality of life. This is a beautiful song, and it’s comforting to know that there are other people who appreciate it.
I saw Jason Lytle perform this with the New MacHine Orchestra last night. It was amazing, I was crying. At the end I shouted "I love you Jason!" and he smiled and said "aw".
Absolutely the most brilliant lyrics... these five lines... I tear up every time... "Oh I wish I really could Enjoy the warming sun Enjoy a warm someone And end the need to hide Away alone inside" Wow, so very powerful...puts playback on loop...
The visuals work well with the song. It's about remembering and past regrets. The video looks aged and disorted, like memories become. And it looks a lot like the Central Valley (at least the warming sun part) Good Job!
A Grandaddy compilation cd was in my cheapo cd alarm clock for ages - made me late for work - haha but as I now work for myself - YYYEEAAAAHHH i wake up and sing out of tune with a smile on my face. Excellent sounds hits the spot.
they are my favorite band, so its hard for me to pick one, but i think it is their most beautiful song and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. jason lytle is realy a poet. and his sense for poignancy is uncanny.
I've always really related to this song. It's beautiful to know others have felt similar to you. In many ways that's the point of music. If you get time search for Lucid Rivers
Interesting because if you had actually lived thru it like I did, perhaps you'd feel like your guts were getting ripped out through your throat every time you heard it.
Kara A I cant speak for what you’ve lived through, or what emotions this song may make you feel, because that would be silly to assume someone’s life based off a comment on UA-cam. But what I have learned over the years is never to compare your experiences to others. The pain I’ve gone through a lot of people haven’t and will never go through. But I’m happy they haven’t gone through it! Not upset at them because they don’t share that same hurt or pain. So I’m sorry if this song makes you feel pain, but for me it’s peacefully haunting.
This band's songs seem to really affect people who are attuned to their sound. Hey, they sure got me! The sound of how my soul feels (I know, I know - that sounds pretentious, but hey)
The video quality doesn't matter, it's the sound quality that's the problem, whoever made this video didn't remove the sound recorded by the camera before overlaying the track.
People saying this is a beautiful song...no it's a terribly SAD song. Maybe beautiful if you knew you were about to end your life and never feel emotional pain again...
@benlcosta Hahahahaha Man. Look at you. Top Lytle authority. I bet you're best friends with him right? Get bent and while you're at it, try getting a clue too.
Amazing song. Of all the stunning Jason Lytle compositions, this track slays me every time. As song writing goes it doesn't get much better than this.

Indeed it's genius

Unforgettable. Had me and my mother relaying looks of utter disbelief and awe the whole way through

Sublime chanson, Jason Lytle est un magicien de la musique...
sad, touching, lush, beautiful. What a song.

Like the mood.. I wish I could meet Jason Lytle. This is the only band I ever wanted to meet in person...and its probably never going to happen

2:48 starts the genius of music
I agree wholeheartedly. The movement is emotional beyond normal comprehension.
Yes.
It gets better as you listen to it. It's simple, bitter, sarcastic, cynical, sorrowful in its crescendo - a beautiful song.
Wonderful love song by the unique Jason Lytle
i started to love Grandaddy 4-5 months ago and still love and i wont ever regret i have! :) they are the best! XD
"But in real life..." BOOM
Triste, mélancolique, touchant.
Best grandaddy song
A song that has a haunting way of making me feel at peace whenever I hear it

Oh I wish I really could.
Grandaddy...
Unfortunately there's audio spilling in from the video you recorded. Can hear planes flying by during the song.
I think that’s part of the magic
This song is not available on Spotify, why?
People saying this is a beautiful song...no it's a terribly SAD song. Maybe beautiful if you knew you were about to end your life and never feel emotional pain again...
@monkeywrench666 A perfect description
fucking amazing
it is just you.
@maniaczek91 recorded by phone? cool! i think it fits...
It's not about the video... if the video really matters to you then you are distracted from the music.
An atheist that loves dogs is leaving us...
@benlcosta Hahahahaha Man. Look at you. Top Lytle authority. I bet you're best friends with him right?

Better than the Beatles, Beach Boys and Pink Floyd, fronted by a Subtler Neil Young, Ya, that's how phenomenal di/eze nut(s) were/was...harumph.
I hear so much John Lennon and pet sounds in this song.
@@Cat-vi9wz I agree, lots of Brian Wilson
